Britain is f{#blank#}1{#/blank#}as a country of animal lovers, and a many families have at least one pet. Americans also like animals, and about 60% of American families have a pet. People from other countries say that Americans think so much about animals and take them as well as people.

    At weekends people have many ways to see other animals. Many towns have a river with ducks. In Britain, people v{#blank#}2{#/blank#}farm parks, zoos, bird parks, and sea life parks.

    TV s{#blank#}3{#/blank#}about animals are very popular. Children are i{#blank#}4{#/blank#} in animals when they are very small. Children's life is wonderful b{#blank#}5{#/blank#}there are many different animals. Many animals in books have their own character: foxes are cunning(狡猾的), and cats are kind.

    We can watch stories about animals on TV. Animal World is very good. We can know more about animals. And we can see many other animals we can't see in our life.

    Animals are our friends and we s{#blank#}6{#/blank#}take the animals as our friends.

    Once there was a good vegetable patch (菜地), and there grew avery big tree. Both the vegetables and the tree1 the place wonderful. But no one knew that thevegetables in the patch and the tree couldn't2 each other for a long time. The vegetablesdidn't like the tree's shade (树荫) because it stoppedthem from getting enough3. The tree, on the other hand, hated thevegetables. The4 wasthat the vegetables drank nearly all the water before it could get to him,leaving him a little water.

    They kept this situation5 the vegetables got completely bored with thetree one day. Then they decided to use up all the water in the ground so thatthe tree would die.

    What would the tree do? Without question, thetree answered back6 refusing to shade the vegetables from the sun.It was so hot that the vegetables became dry. Before long, all of them7died.

    At that time, thevegetables and the tree realized that it was8to help each other than to fight. Theylearned that they should9 those around them. From then on, they decidedto work together, using both the shade and the water to grow. Before long, theytogether showed10 a beautiful picture.

This month, we went on a five day trip to Xishuangbanna, a beautiful place in the south of Yunnan Province. The weather there is hot and wet. There a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} many kinds of plants and animals. I want to i {#blank#}2{#/blank#} some interesting things we saw to you during our trip.

In the jungle(丛林), we saw a twining(缠绕的)plant. These P {#blank#}3{#/blank#} grow when seeds-seeds mainly from banyan tees (榕树)are moved by animals or wind to some other trees. These seeds gradually grow, developing their own aerial (空气的) roots. Little by lite, they will get themselves around the host tree and f {#blank#}4{#/blank#} kill it, just like a snake kills its enemy.

A {#blank#}5{#/blank#} thing we learned is that when a tree gets big and strong, some of its aerial roots will grow into the ground and develop into a new tee, just like the way cell division (细胞分裂) works. The w {#blank#}6{#/blank#} tree will look like a small forest. I think this is quite a {#blank#}7{#/blank#}.

In the forest, you will sometimes find some red leaves among the green leaves. Why is that?

One reason is that the sunshine is very strong in Yunnan. The trees n {#blank#}8{#/blank#} use all of their leaves in order to do photosynthesis (光合作用) and grow, so the color of some of the leaves c {#blank#}9{#/blank#}to red.

We really enjoyed our trip to Yunnan. We learned a lot about n {#blank#}10{#/blank#} and had a rally fun time. I hope we can take more trips like this in the future.

Everyone wants to live longer, so to keep healthy is very important. I have a neighbor. She is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} old lady. She can read newspapers, watch TV and search on the Internet to learn {#blank#}2{#/blank#}( anything) new. She often does Tai Chi in the morning and dances in the evening. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} she is over 70, she looks young and beautiful . Last week a reporter from a magazine interviewed(采访) her and asked her {#blank#}4{#/blank#}( tell) the reason why she kept so young and healthy. She answered with a smile.

"I have a secret of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}( stay) young and healthy. It is easy. Keep your mind active, be {#blank#}6{#/blank#}( interest) in the world around you, and learn at {#blank#}7{#/blank#}( little) one new thing every day. Don't think you are too old to go back to school. I know two men entered a college of arts when they were 70 years old. They {#blank#}8{#/blank#}( study) there for 6 years and now they are{#blank#}9{#/blank#}( write). Another man went to a tennis school at the age of 71 and now he is good at playing tennis. He said it's good {#blank#}10{#/blank#} his health. Some people may say staying young is easy only for those who live in the future. In fact, no matter how old you are, you can make it."

Several years ago, I started the experience of riding a bike. At first, I thought it was only a 1  ride. But as I built up strength, my friends encouraged me to try some longer 2 . The first one was a 150-mile journey. It was an activity to raise money to fight against cancer(癌症). 

When I signed my name, the 3  seemed great. But as the time for the ride came closer, I was not sure about myself. I didn't really want to 4  all those miles for two days. 

The ride began on a Sunday morning in the Georgia countryside, 5  for the first few hours I felt wonderful. This was just the 6  I had imagined. But by the end of the day, I felt tired. I was sure I'd have to 7 . 

As I topped the hill, the nice sunset 8  me going for a few minutes more. Then in the distance, I saw a rider riding very slowly. I 9  that the person looked different in some way, but I couldn't tell why. I tried my best to catch up. There she was, with a determined smile on her face, riding 10  but steadily(稳地) — she had only one leg. 

She caught 11  attention at that moment. I was uncertain about my body for a whole day. But now I knew it wasn't the body, but the 12  that would help me reach my goal. 

It rained all the 13  day. I kept on without complaining , although I 14  saw the one-legged biker again. And at the end of the day, still feeling 15 , I completed the 150-mile journey.
