A few years ago we moved to a new city, so I had to change schools. On the first day at my new school, I was really {#blank#}1{#/blank#} . I found it hard to make new friends and hardly said a word to anyone for {#blank#}2{#/blank#} . When the morning break started, I went outside and stood on my own. I was feeling really lonely. Towards the end of break, a girl walked up to me. She introduced {#blank#}3{#/blank#} as Monica and started chatting right away. She was also quite new at the school and we soon {#blank#}4{#/blank#} we had a lot in common. We watched the same TV shows, listened to {#blank#}5{#/blank#} types of music, and we were both learning to play the guitar. Also, we lived just a few minutes' walk from each other! 

Monica and I have been really good friends since that day. Naturally we sometimes argue like everyone does but we're very close. 

① Arat Montoya, 36, lives in West Linn, a city in the US. He is from a family of bakers. But he doesn't like making bread. When his father asked him to follow the family tradition, Montoya said,"I'm sorry, Dad. I love dogs." he said.

②Montoya spent a few years working at a dog club. After the club closed, Montoya started to offer(提 供) a doggie day care service(服务). He has a" Doggie School Bus" and he works as the driver. The bus runs five days a week and the service is $30 per(每一) dog each day.

③Montoya's service is pretty nice. Every morning at about 7 a. m., he drives the school bus to the owners'(主人) houses to pick up the dogs and takes them to" school"—a farm. The dogs are full of excitement because" go to school" means they can play all day. They can run around and play with each other at" school". When" school" finishes, Montoya takes the dogs back home. He also sends some videos and pictures to show the dogs'" school" life to the dogs' owners.

④ It shows that the doggie day care service is a great business(生意) idea. Montoya loves taking care of those dogs. And the dogs love going to" school". The most important is that the dogs' owners speak highly of Montoya and his business. All of them are happy about this doggie day care service.

⑤Now, more than 300 owners ask Montoya to take care of their dogs."I'm the happiest man in the world," Montoya said." Doing what I like truly makes me happy."

Shawn and Pat were brothers. Twelve-year-old Shawn liked to play jokes. He did not always do his homework on time. Sometimes he forgot to wash the dishes. His bedroom was a mess! Pat, on the other hand, had always behaved like an angel. "What a wonderful baby!" his mother would say. "He never cried!" His teachers always said, "What a joy it is to have Pat in class! He is so different from his brother."

Pat did not think much about how great he was until one day when he was watching Mostly Martin. In the show, a new boy had moved to town. "He is strange," said Martin. "He never gets into trouble. He does everything he's supposed to do. Everyone thinks he is perfect. He must be a robot!"

He went to find Shawn. "Am I a robot?" he asked. "Of course not." said Shawn as he went outside. Pat thought hard. Robots were machines. They looked like people, but they were not really alive. They always followed orders. How would you know that you were one?

Pat decided to ask his parents. After all, they must know. He asked at dinner. His father laughed. "Sure!" he said, "And it's time to change your batteries (电池)!" He jumped up and ran to the tool drawer. "Dad's just kidding!" said Pat's mother. "Of course you are not a robot, Pat. You are our son." Pat felt better for a while. But that night he began to worry again. Of course his mother said he was real. Nice mothers would not tell their sons they are robots!

Pat ran to Shawn's room. Shawn was playing a computer game in the dark. "How can I know for sure that I am not a robot?" asked Pat. For once, Shawn did not play a joke on his little brother. He could tell that Pat was really worried. After all, Pat was only six.

"What makes you think that you are one?" he said.

"People always say I am perfect," answered Pat. "But only robots are!" Shawn smiled to himself. He knew exactly what to do. "Listen!     ▲    " he said to Pat.

The next morning, his mother opened Pat's bedroom door. "Time to get up!"

 "No," said Pat. His mother was surprised. This had never happened before. "Get up."

 "No!" shouted Pat. He kicked his feet and rolled around in bed.

"Patrick!" his mother said in a loud voice. "Get out of bed this minute!" Pat gave a few more kicks. He felt very silly. He was also happy. No robot would ever act this way. He was a real boy. Now he knew for sure.

It was a happy time for me, but there were many dangers because of my small size. There are some incidents (事件) that I remembered clearly. 

 Every morning Glumdalclitch (格伦达克利奇) carried my box to the window. One day she carried me to the window as usual, and then she left me there. Some huge wasps (黄蜂) came in through the window, and came into the box. They were the size of birds in England, and they were very fierce(凶猛的). I was afraid of them. I took out my sword (剑) and fought them. I killed four of them. Luckily, the others flew away. 

Another dangerous moment that I remembered was this: Glumdalclitch left me in the garden one day, and the weather was very bad. First it rained, and then it hailed (下冰雹) very hard. The hail- stones were the size of tennis balls, and they hurt me badly. I managed to hide under a tree, but I was still hit by some of them.

Hi, boys and girls! My name is Eric Brown. I'm 12 years old. I go to No. 10 Middle School. I like English and my English teacher's name is Tom Green. He is 28 years old. He likes dogs and he has a dog. His dog's name is Max. Max is 8 years old. It is a black dog and it is big.

 Every day, Max comes to our school with Mr Green. And Max likes it. Max doesn't go to our classroom(教室). When we are in class, Max is in Mr Green's office(办公室). Max knows that it's time for us to study. After class, all of us go to Mr Green's office and meet Max. We say"Hello" to it and play with it. We are happy to be with it. Max brings joy to our school. We love it.

My name is Doris. I have been in China for four years. When I first came here, I could only say a little Chinese, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I can speak Chinese very well now. 

In the first Chinese class, I didn't feel shy{#blank#}2{#/blank#} afraid. I tried my best to say something about myself in Chinese. I also showed my classmates some of my hobbies, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}I made some good friends in the first class. 

After that, I usually practised Chinese with my friends. We joined a language club. In the club, we learned Chinese with other Chinese students, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} they practised English with us. I have learned a lot about the language and Chinese culture. All of us got better and better at language learning,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} we practised in the club every day after school. 

The club also provided other ways for us to practise languages. I love my friends and the club so much.
