With devices (设备) that can be conveniently (便利地) controlled from anywhere, a smart home offers convenience to its owners. These devices can be connected with each other through the Internet, allowing the user to control functions, such as security access (安全访问), lighting and temperature. 

"Haitangxiaozhen", an Internet user from Xuzhou, Jiangsu, shared his experience of setting up a smart home. He first bought the service of "intelligent networking". It can be extended (延伸) to every room. He then can use an app to control various smart home devices. 

He said that he usually got off work late, ____. But now, cooked rice waits for him at home because he can turn on the rice cooker with his phone in advance. During summer, he usually turns on the air conditioner 30 minutes before getting home. He can also check the security camera at the door anytime through his phone in case he forgets whether he has locked the door or not. It's very convenient for him. 

During winter and summer holidays, when his child was alone at home, he used to worry about safety problems. For this reason, he specially installed a smart camera. With it, he can check if his child is OK at any time. His home also has a kitchen safety set, including smoke sensors (传感器), gas sensors and water sensors. 

And these devices are really smart. They come with self-learning skills so they can learn the home owner's timetables and make changes as needed. 

All these conveniences are making smart homes more and more popular both in China and around the world. 

"Smart homes are not yet perfect. They also bring problems. Every device has its own app, leading to a large number of apps for me to deal with." another user said. 

When Tim Carter finished high school, he started to deliver(送) pizzas. But soon he found that he didn't want to do it for the rest of his life. He thought about he saw his uncle welding(焊接) the parts of his car and was really interested in it. So he took a night class at a local school to see if welding was a job that he was going to stick to(坚持).

After studying for some time, he found it was. Tim learned more about welding there and then he wanted to learn everything about it. He decided to make welding his career(职业). But one night class wouldn't be enough. Tim went to a welding school for real practice. He was quite sure he would stick to the job.

For the past 18 years, Tim has been a skillful welder. He now works for the EEW Group. It is a welding company and also helps to give away most of the profits(收益) to environmental programs. A day for Tim includes a number of tasks and skills. "There are a lot to deal with(处理)," he told Time for Kids. "It's not just welding."

Tim's favorite part of being a welder is "making an honest living". He also feels fantastic about helping the environment. "I'm glad to stick to what I really want to do." he says. "I'm working for a company. The company is helping the country to go green, and it's meaningful for me to be a part of that."

Nick is a 14-year-old schoolboy.  His  life  is  full  of exams  and  studies  on weekdays. He    has little free time.    He thinks playing computer games is the best way to relax. When he has free time, he sits in front of the computer. Just like that, he doesn't eat or drink for several(几个) hours.

Last weekend,he played games in front of the computer again.He was too excited and didn't want to move. He didn't have anything for six hours. When he had to go to the bathroom,he found he could not move. He was taken to the hospital. The doctor told him he should do some different kinds of activities. In other words,he needs more exercise to have a healthy body.

After coming back from the hospital, Nick follows the doctor's advice(建议).He often plays soccer with his friends. Sometimes he still plays computer games on weekends,but he never does it for long. Now, he lives a happy and healthy life.

A few years ago, I went to Italy as an exchange student. Before leaving, I asked my mother what gifts I should take to the teachers and the classmates there. Mom said that the Chinese fan was a good choice, for China is praised as"the Fan Kingdom". I agreed completely, because it is more than a tool for cooling. And it's also an important part of Chinese culture. 

I went shopping and bought three kinds of Chinese fans. The first kind was the feather(羽毛) fan for the teachers, which was made of bird feathers. It was the symbol of Zhuge Liang, a very smart man in ancient China. The fans I bought for the girls were silk fans. They were also called"round silk fans". Fans of this kind were made of silk with paintings of beautiful women, birds or flowers. They were very popular with women of all ages. As for the boys, I picked the folding fans from Rongchang, a place in the west of Chongqing. The folding fans were made of paper and bamboo. There were great paintings and calligraphy(书法) on them. 

 At the welcome party in Italy, my new friends were all ____ to get the wonderful fans. And they were amazed at the stories and culture behind them. They were eager(渴望) to visit China and explore Chinese culture. 

 Zhou Zhaoqian comes from China. After winning the Women's Wheelchair(轮椅) Race 1,500m-T54 at the 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, she said it was her best birthday present.

 Zhou was born in Hebei Province in 1997. She lived a happy life with her family. But she lost her right leg because of a car accident at the age of 5. It made her feel sad. She didn't want to leave her bedroom or meet others for a long time. However, her family always gave her aid. They taught her to use the wheelchair and asked her to make new friends. Finally, Zhou became active. She didn't give up her study. She even went to college to study computer skills.

 In 2012, Zhou began to work as a sportswoman. However, after four years of hard training, she failed to take part in the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. Later, she changed her skills and trained even harder. She successfully returned to the top ranks(排位) in China in 2017. From then on, Zhou started to do well in almost all competitions.

 Zhou already had a chance to take part in the Paris Paralympic Games. "I improve my skills by taking part in more competitions," she said. "In this way, I can do better and better."
