Today many children like two kinds of parties in America. One is at home. Parents decorate the house with balloons(气球)and coloured paper. They make a special birthday dinner. The children play games. The other is away from home. Some are at a special restaurant. The children eat pizza and ice cream. The waiters also sing and say happy birthday to the children. Some are at a park, or at a cinema, or in some other places. 

There is a cake with candles(蜡烛) at every birthday party. When the candles are lighted(点燃), everyone sings the special birthday song Happy Birthday. 

Many people don't have birthday parties when they are not young. They say they would like to forget how old they are. But they do like to keep the happy birthday parties of their childhood in mind(记忆). 

Reading books is a good hobby for all kinds of reasons. 

First, reading books is f{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. You can always keep yourself happy if you like reading. This is especially useful when the weather is bad. It is a relaxing hobby too. You can really become lost in a book. 

Next, you can read a book anywhere: in a car, in a waiting-room, on a plane, in bed — even in the bath. All you need is a book! Reading is a convenient hobby as it is e{#blank#}2{#/blank#} to stop and then start again. 

Another good reason for reading books is that it is useful. If you read as a hobby you will get better and better at it. This m{#blank#}3{#/blank#} that you will read faster and will become better at understanding what you read. As your reading improves, you will probably find your schoolwork becomes much easier. Many school subjects depend on good reading and, as you read, you learn more and more.

We all know that being kind can help people in need, but do you know that kindness can also help yourself? 

According to National Public Radio, the Big Joy Project began in 2021. It spreads the message that people can find happiness in difficult times and use it to do good. 

The project was open to anyone. More than 70, 000 people from over 200 countries took part in it. All had to take an online survey answering questions about their feelings. Then, they needed to do a small thing every day, such as visiting an elderly neighbor or buying a cup of coffee for a stranger. Finally, they had to take the other survey to compare their feelings before and after.

The results were announced on November 11, 2023. "We are really excited. Aner the project, there are big changes, including greater happiness, less stress, better sleep, stronger problem-solving abilities, and greater satisfaction with relationships," said Emiliana Simon-Thomas, the leader of the Big Joy Project.
