Edgar Snow (1905—1972) was an American reporter. He is best known for his books and articles on Communism in China and the Chinese Communist revolution.

Snow came to China in 1928. He spent over 10 years traveling {#blank#}1{#/blank#} in China and trying to understand its people. At the same time, he tried to show {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he learned to the rest of the world.

For examples, Red StarOver China, which came out in the 1930s, is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} as the first book that introduced China's revolution to the west. In it, Snow collected firsthand information on the Long March, as well as on the work and lifestyle of members of the Communist Party of China in Shanxi Province.

Many Westerners were introduced to the Party {#blank#}4{#/blank#} his book. Norman Bethune, a Canadian doctor, came to China after reading Snow's book. He worked {#blank#}5{#/blank#} to save the lives of Chinese soldiers during World War Ⅰ.

"When the whole world had forgotten us, Snow came to see us and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the world what had happened. We will remember Snow's great help to China forever," Chairman Mao said during an interview with a German reporter in 1938.

Snow's {#blank#}7{#/blank#} is still needed now as well as in the future, according to People's Daily. "No writer has spoken more strongly about Sino-US relations than Edgar Snow. And no matter the era, people around the world always need some sort of link," the paper said.

Art has always been my favorite {#blank#}1{#/blank#} because it allows me to do my favorite bobby. I still remember when I was young, I would always paint on books, pieces of paper and walls. But now in school, there are only four art lessons {#blank#}2{#/blank#} week. I notice that every lesson seems to {#blank#}3{#/blank#} quickly because I lose myself in my artwork. Drawing takes me to a wonderful world.

I love drawing so much that whenever I have time between classes, I find myself drawing something. I have spent so much time {#blank#}4{#/blank#} my skills that even my classmates are often surprised. But I never talk with too much pride about my {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and I am always thankful for their praise. 

I especially enjoy drawing cartoons because I can just shut off my {#blank#}6{#/blank#} and let my creativity run {#blank#}7{#/blank#} like a horse. Once in a while, I draw things that even surprise myself. Some are pretty, while others are {#blank#}8{#/blank#} that should not be seen by the teachers. They are only for my classmates. 

So, I must say that I always feel {#blank#}9{#/blank#} when I am drawing something enjoyable. For me, drawing is a natural way to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} myself. It allows me to follow my instincts (直觉) easily and lets my feelings guide my hand. 

My little sister is in Grade Seven this year. Her favorite subject is math and she is very good at it.

One day, a friend of my father's from America showed us some {#blank#}1{#/blank#} about America and invited us to his home. My sister wanted to go there very much, but my father said she must speak English very well. From then on, she {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to work hard. She kept reading English for about half an hour every morning. In class, she listened very {#blank#}3{#/blank#} and answered the teacher's questions as soon as possible. There was an American teacher in her school. After school, she talked to him in English as {#blank#}4{#/blank#} as he was free. Now she always says, "My dream is to be a diplomat (外交官)." I am sure her dream will come {#blank#}5{#/blank#} one day.

If you get stuck in a heavy rain, what would you do? You may be worried and want to find shelter immediately. But Song Dynasty poet Su Shi behaves differently {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Tune: Calming the Waves(定风波). 

Tune: Calming the Waves is one of Su's ci (词), {#blank#}2{#/blank#} type of poetry that was popular during the Song Dynasty. The ci begins by telling the reader that being{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (catch) in the sudden rain, Su has nothing but sandals(草鞋) and a cane(手杖). This shows {#blank#}4{#/blank#} his journey is challenging. Su {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (he) was no stranger to facing challenges. At that time, Su was charged with going {#blank#}6{#/blank#}the emperor through his literary work and therefore was banished (贬谪) to Hangzhou. But even so, he always stayed positive. Just{#blank#}7{#/blank#} he described in the ci, instead of being upset, Su chose to "walk{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (slow) and chant at ease(自在)". After the rain, looking at "the dreary beaten track" again, he{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (find) everything was the same as it {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(be) before. A small rain shower is just a brief part of the day, just as his political setbacks are but a small part of his life.
