The sheepskin raft(羊皮筏子) is about 2,000 years old. It is the oldest ferry along the Yellow River in Northwest China. The airbag of the raft is made of a whole sheepskin. The airbags are fastened (系牢) to a wooden stand.

It is said that the biggest sheepskin raft in old times was made up of over 600 sheepskin airbags. It was 22 meters long and 7 meters wide. It could carry around 30 tons of goods(货物) and run over 200 kilometers in one day, making it as helpful as a steamship.

In the early 20th century, before the 1950s, there were fewer railways and road traffic was difficult. The sheepsk in raft was the most important means of transportation for people living along the Yellow River.

Now people do not need to carry passengers or goods on sheepskin rafts. We can only find them along the Yellow River in cities such as Lanzhou and Baiyin. People use them to carry visitors on the Yellow River for fun and sightseeing.

Today only some of the older rafters still run the traditional sheepsk in rafts. They are inheritors (继承者) and are helping to keep the old craft(手艺) . Young people usually don't want to learn the craft. They like finding other jobs in cities.

Tom and Mike were good friends, they began to work in a company together at the same year. They both worked hard. After several years, however, the boss made Mike manager(经理) but Tom was still an office worker. Tom couldn't stand it, so he handed a letter to his boss, saying that he decided to resign(辞职) his job because the boss didn't value his hard work at all.

The boss knew that Tom worked very hard for years. He thought for a moment and said,"I hope you will do one more thing for our company before you leave. Perhaps you will change your mind." Tom agreed. The boss asked him to go and find out if there was anyone who sold watermelons in the market. Tom returned soon. He said he had found a man selling watermelons. The boss asked the price of the watermelons. Tom shook his head and went back to the market again. When he returned, he told the boss it was $2 for each kilo.

The boss told Tom to wait for a moment in his office, and he called Mike in. He asked Mike to find if there was anyone selling watermelons in the market. Later Mike returned and said," Only one man is selling watermelons, $2 for each kilo. He has 100 watermelons in all. Every watermelon weighs about 2 kilos. They were brought here two days ago, pretty fresh and sweet." Tom got to know the difference between Mike and himself. He decided not to resign his job any more.

Mr and Mrs Brown are going to have a vacation. Miss Green，a travel agent（旅行代理人），has made a full schedule(日程) for them. They arrive in Chicago on July 3rd and stay there for three days. It's two nights and three days altogether. They have plenty of time for shopping and sightseeing.（看风景）

Then they are leaving for（动身去） New York City at 11：30 a.m. on July 5th by train. They have accommodations（住宿） for two nights at the New York Sheraton on 7th Avenue. After that，they are visiting Washington. They have two days there before they fly to Montreal. There's a meal served （提供）on that flight. They can have some sandwiches and desserts（甜点），and of course the usual beverages（饮料）：coffee，tea or soft drinks. They will have a good time in Montreal，too. It's a full schedule（日程表），but they'll have plenty of time to relax and enjoy themselves.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is in Baiyun. It is about 28 kilo meters from the centre of Guangzhou. It is a 4F class international airport. And it is one of the most important airports in China.

In 1932, the old Baiyun Airport was built. In 1963, the airport was built again. It became larger than before. In August 2000, the airport began to be built again. After four years, the new Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport was open. It is the first airport that was built with the idea of central airport in China. The two central terminal buildings (中心航站楼) are in the middle of the airport. There are 12 waiting corridors (走廊) on both sides of the two central terminal buildings. So it looks like a big cockroach.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is an important part of the transportation network (交通网络) in China. In 2020, it became famous because it was very hectic. 43.768 million people took the plane in the airport in 2020. During the Spring Festival in 2023, more than six million people took the plane in the airport.

From 2022, some new airlines in the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport were open for people. From April 3rd, 2022, people could fly from Guangzhou to Linzhi, Lhasa. People can travel easily and save some time now.
