Lin Hong is my new friend. Her father has a shop near the factory. The {#blank#}1{#/blank#} /θIŋz/ in his shop are all nice. And his family are kind {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the workers. So they like to buy {#blank#}3{#/blank#}/'sʌmθIŋ/ there. It's Saturday today. Lin Hong doesn't go to school. She knows her father is busy, so she gets up early. She does her homework and then goes to the shop to help her father. There {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(be) many people in it. She sells(卖) bananas, apples, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (orange) and drinks to the workers. A car stops(停) in front of the shop. The big day comes on March 30th. A new white house sits where once only a dream stands.

I'm Mary from England. Now I'm in a middle school in Beijing. I'm in Class 5, Grade 7. Look! This is a photo of our classroom. There are twenty-one desks and forty chairs in it. Two students share a desk. And there is also a desk for our teachers in the front of the classroom.

Our classroom is big and tidy. There are two maps in the classroom. They are a map of China and a map of Beijing. There are no computers in the classroom. But there is a bookcase (书架).There are many books in it. We can read them, but we can only take one book at a time. There are only a few books on our desks. Most of our books are in our desks. We like our classroom very much. What about yours?

At the age of 9, I heard about Lu Xun's name for the first time. One afternoon, my mother asked me to 1 From Baicao Garden to Sanwei Study (《从百草园到三味书屋》). "The 2 is Lu Xun. Chairman Mao once called him 'the sage (圣人) of modern China',"she said. I still remember there were many3 Chinese characters (汉字) for me. But I could understand the main 4 . When I finished reading it, I told my mum, "I also want my Baicao Garden 5 Lu Xun's. It's a (n)6 place for fun. " My mum asked, "What do you 7 the Sanwei Study?"I answered, "It is like a school, but 8 are there only a few students in it?" My mother smiled, "You can try to find the answer by 9 when you grow up."

As I 10 older, I got to know Lu Xun is his pen name. His 11 name is Zhou Shuren. He was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province in 1881. He 12 in the Sanwei Study from the age of 12 to 17.13 , the Sanwei Study was a famous private (私人的) school in Shaoxing at that time. At first, Lu Xun hoped to be a doctor,14 he went to Japan to study medicine (医学). But he started writing short15 a few years later because he wanted to tell people about society. 2 of such novels are A Madman's Diary and The True Story of Ah Q. 

Now students can find some of Lu Xun's works in their textbooks. 

If there was an empty lot (一块空地) in your neighborhood (街区), what would you want to turn it into? My classmates and I have turned such an empty lot into a place of hope.

The empty lot in our neighborhood was full of wild grass. As a project for our geography class, we wanted to change the lot. We hoped it could become a place to improve (改善) people's mental (心理的) health.

After weeks of designing, researching and making models (模型), we began our plans. Now the lot is a different place. There is a wood walkway with purple benches (长椅). Kids like the relaxing color, and they come to sit together and make friends.  

A few beautiful plants grow in the ground. There is also a bright blue hopscotch (跳房子游戏) board. We make it for a group of 8 to 10 school-aged kids who have no places to play in the neighborhood. And you can see a white wall painting with red words like "Love" and "Peace".

Now, the lot gives the neighborhood hope and beauty. More people love the neighborhood and have great hopes for things of the future.
