Everybody hates rats. But rats may soon be man's new best friends.

    What happens after an earthquake? We send in rescue (援救) dogs. Why? Because they can smell people. Dogs save lives. They help rescuers to find living people. But dogs are big and they can't get into small space. So now a new research project is using a smaller animal to save lives: the rat.

    How does it work? First, the rat is trained to smell people. When this happens, the rat's brain gives a signal. This is sent to a small radio on its back, and then the rescuers follow the radio signals. When the rat's brain activity jumps, the rescuers know that someone is alive. The rat has smelled that person.

    Although there are already robots which can do this job, rats are better. "Robots' noses don't work well when there are other smells around. Rats are good at that," says a scientist. Rats can also see in the dark. They are cheaper and quicker to train than dogs, and unlike robots, they don't need electricity.

    The "rat project" is not finished, but a scientist says, "It would be fantastic. A rat could get into space we couldn't get to and a rat would get out if it wasn't safe." Perhaps for the first time in history, people will be happy to see a rat in a building (but only after an earthquake, of course).

My favorite animals are monkeys (猴子). I like them{#blank#}1{#/blank#} they are smart. Here are some new {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (photo) of monkeys in my phone. They make me happy when I see them. 

There is a monkey festival in my hometown. "Where are you {#blank#}3{#/blank#}?" you may ask. I'm from Lopburi. The festival is important to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (we). It is usually on {#blank#}5{#/blank#} last Sunday of November. You can see all {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (kind) of foods on the big tables. The food tastes {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (good). It's all for monkeys. The monkeys sometimes fight for food. That {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(sound) funny, right? The monkey festival attracts (吸引) many people every year. People can watch some {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(interest)shows, too. The performers (表演者) wear beautiful clothes. I always have much {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (fun) at the festival. 

You must have heard of me. I'm Li Bai. I'm famous for my poems, but looking back on my fall and exciting life, I'd say friendship has been just as important as poetry.

One of my friends is He Zhizhang who is forty-two years older than me. Once we were having such an interesting conversation that we decided to continue it over dinner. After finishing the meal, we realized that neither of us had brought any money. He immediately took off the golden tortoise (龟) decorated on his waist and used it to pay for our dinner. I knew the golden tortoise was given to him by the Emperor. His generosity touched me. This showed how much he valued our friendship.

A letter started another of my friendships. The letter was from Wang Lun. He wrote to invite me to enjoy the ten-li peach blossom (桃花) scenery and the ten thousand restaurants in his area. I was expecting to see the special scenery and taste all kinds of food and wine so that I accepted this invitation at once.

But when I arrived to my surprise, I found that this clever man had used word-play to trick me into visiting him! The ten-li peach blossom referred to a lake named Peach Blossom Lake, which was about ten li away. The ten thousand restaurants were just a restaurant named WanJia, meaning "owned by Mr. Wan"! I was impressed by his cleverness, and we enjoyed a good laugh together.

Although my friends and I don't have many opportunities to get together, we keep one another in mind.

Last year, I went to a town to visit my friend John. When we took a walk on the street, I saw many teahouses. Then we walked into Fenglai Teahouse. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}[ɪn][fækt], it is one of the oldest teahouses in the town. In Fenglai Teahouse, everything was as {#blank#}2{#/blank#}[ˈprɪtɪ] as a picture. There were very big seats made of wood, so we could sit {#blank#}3{#/blank#}[ˈkʌmfətəbli] in this teahouse.

John told me that teahouses were the most popular places in his town. In the teahouses, people can forget their worries and enjoy themselves. I also found more people played Chinese chess and card games here than those in other places. What {#blank#}5{#/blank#}[fænˈtæstɪk]places the teahouses are!

In China, schools are giving {#blank#}1{#/blank#}more time to play outside. They make class breaks(休息) longer from 10 to 15 minutes. This {#blank#}2{#/blank#}students and teachers get fresh air and exercise.

Before, breaks are short. And some students can't go outside {#blank#}3{#/blank#}their classes are far from the gym. Also, sometimes schools don't let them go out for safety(安全). 

Now, in cities like Beijing and Qingdao, kids have longer breaks. They {#blank#}4{#/blank#} kids to play outside at least(至少) 30 minutes every day.

In Wuxi, schools make sure kids play outside for 100 minutes every day. They can't start classes too early. They want to give kids more time to have {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.
