For thousands of years, humans have explored the earth. Nowadays, we are exploring space. Many astronomers (天 文 学 家) are looking for new planets and new places for humans to live in the future. But where do astronomers start looking?

First, astronomers look for a star(恒星),because our own earth moves around a star. More importantly, it is the correct distance(距离) from the Sun for heat and light. So when astronomers have found the star, they look at the planets around it. In recent years, astronomers have found nearly 400 new planets with stars. However, many of these planets are either too near the star or too far away.

Then, if the planet is in a good position(位置), astronomers look for three key things: water, air and rock. Water is important because all life needs water. And plants produce air for humans to breathe and food to eat. Rock is also important, because there is often water under the rock.

After many years of scrutinising, astronomers have found a planet that is similar to the earth. It's Gliese 581g and it's near a star. The astronomers think it has water and rock. Gliese 581g is bigger than the earth. A year on Gliese 581g is only 37 earth days instead of 365. But astronomers do not think these are big differences and some of them think Gliese 581g will be a new earth.

About 90% of the population in the world is right-handed, But according to a report, lots of famous people are left-handed. For example, American presidents such as George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama are left-handed. So are Leonardo da Vinci , Bill Gates, Seven Jobs and so on. What does that mean? Are left-handed people smarter than the right-handed?

To answer this question, scientists studied 2,300 right-handed and left-handed students between the ages 6 and 17 in Italy. The students were asked to work out some math problems. There was no difference when they looked at the easier math problems. But left-handed students did better at the more difficult problems.

In fact, left-handedness has not always been seen in such a positive way. In the pamphlet(小册子) The Prevention and Correction of left-handedness in children written by J.W. Conway in 1936, left-handedness was described as a serious " lillness".

Prejudices(偏见)against left-handed people are built into our language. To be someone's " right-hand man" is good. It means you are a person who can help a lot.

But having "two left feet" or receiving a " left-handed compliment(赞扬)" is bad. The word itself comes from the old English. "lyft" mean weak or broken. These prejudices not only appear in English. The French word for left is "gauche" which means "awkward(笨拙的)"， while "droite", the French word for right , means "clever".

Nowadays, protecting our environment has become an important topic for us. All of us live in one world. We are making waste every minute. When we finish reading a newspaper, the paper will become waste. When TV sets or computers are broken, they will become waste, too. Among all the waste we make, plastic(塑料的) bags and rubber（橡胶） stand out and catch people's attention. 

Plastic bags are often used in our everyday life. The number of used plastic bags is going up day by day. We like to use them because they are convenient (便利的). When we get home, we throw the plastic bags away as waste. These are called "white pollution" as most plastics are white. Rubber  is also common (常见的) in our daily life. Many things we use are made of rubber, just like the bottom part of our shoes. However, it also brings us some trouble. The rubber waste pollutes the environment very badly because it can't break down easily in nature - it will not change for a long time.

To solve the problems above, we should take action at once. For example, when we go shopping, we can bring cloth bags but not plastic ones. And we should do something to recycle (循环使用) rubber. Our small actions can make a difference and lead to a better future.

Ben and Tim are good friends. They were very active before. They played games together outdoors a lot. But now Tim is not active any more. He has some bad habits. He watches too much TV and plays too many computer games. Ben worries about him.

Ben sends his friend a poem:

You can be a couch potato and watch TV all day.

But don't do that. There is another way!

Move your body, get out and have fun.

Fresh air, a bike ride, playing in the sun!

Tim gets home from school. There is a letter at his front door. It's Ben's poem! He reads the poem and he laughs. He writes a poem back to his friend:

Your poem is funny,

But I feel really lucky.

With a true friend on my side,

My world will be open wide.

Let's meet tomorrow at six o' clock,

And we can go for a good walk.

"Be yourself. " You may often hear people say this to you, but you' re not really sure what it means. In fact, being yourself means being true to yourself. There's no need for you to try to be someone else and you shouldn't worry about what others think of you. Then, what can you do to be yourself?

 Get to know yourself.To be yourself, though, you have to learn about yourself. You have to learn who you are, what matters to you and what you believe (and don't believe) in. 

 Please(使……高兴) yourself.Doing things to please others is nice, but it shouldn't be your first priority(首要任务). If you always want others pleased, you will forget about yourself and what you really want. So, if you find yourself doing this, ask yourself why. Don't always go along with the crowd(大众), but stop to ask yourself if this is right for you. 

 Learn to love yourself.This is important because nobody can love you as much as you can love yourself. Loving yourself means loving everything in you, your voice, your looks and even your mistakes. Remember, you don't have to be the same as anyone else. 

I started running half marathons(马拉松)a long time ago. A half marathon is 21 kilometers, by the way. I' ve tried a few full marathons, but 42 kilometers is a long way and I prefer the shorter distance(距离). I'm almost 70 now, and I' ve been doing them for over 50 years, but I still get the same excitement at the beginning of each race as I used to.

I don't run as many half-marathons as I did. I used to run around 15 races every year and when I was in my thirties I got quite good at them. I think my personal best was around 1 hour 17 minutes, which was only ten minutes over the world record back then. These days I run about five races a year and my time is quite a bit slower. At my age you need a lot more preparation and your body doesn't recover(恢复) as quickly, but it's well worth all the hard work.

 There are two main reasons why I still run half marathons. Firstly, it means I'm keeping myself fit. My doctor told me that I'm healthier than most people half my age! But I think the real reason I love the sport is the other people you meet. You get to know other athletes(运动员) and I' ve made many good friends over the years. The crowds of people who wait on the sides of the streets clapping and shouting as you run past are amazing. I get more and more support the older I get!

I now spend quite a lot of time visiting schools to get children interested in sport, especially running. I think it's really important to get involved(参加) at an early age. It makes it so much easier to keep doing it the older you get. The kids are always interested and they ask me lots of questions. Many of them can't believe that I'm the same age as their grandfathers. Sometimes I invite them to run a five-kilometer race with me but not many of them can beat me!
