Today was a clear day and I had a great farm trip with my friends.

We got to the farm at nine o'clock. A nice farmer called Uncle Tom welcomed us. Our first stop was the Chicken House. We helped feed(喂) the chickens. The chickens were quite friendly and it was not difficult to feed them at all.

Then Uncle Tom took us to walk around the farm. It was amazing(令人惊讶的) that there were no people but many robots doing the farm work. That was quite different from the farms that I visited before. Soon it was 11:30 and it was time to cook lunch. We were not good at cooking but we all tried our best. We cooked beef and some vegetables. They were not very delicious', but we ate them up.

After lunch, we had a short break and then we went to the Warm House. We picked and ate many big and red strawberries there. My friends took some home to share with their family, but I didn't. Because only I love strawberries in my family.

What a nice day! I think I will go to the farm again.

Reading books increases our knowledge and understanding of the world around us. To encourage people to find the fun of reading and pay tribute (表达敬意) to famous writers, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO 联合国教科文组织) fixed April 23rd as World Book and Copyright (版权) Day in 1926 in Spain.

The idea of specially choosing a day to celebrate books came from Spanish writer Vicente Clavel Andres. In 1922 he suggested the idea as a way to remember Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. Four years later the first celebration took place on October 7th, because it is said to be Cervantes' birthday. But the celebration was then moved to April 23rd, the date of his death in 1930.

In 1995, the UNESCO decided to pay tribute to writers and books around the world as a way of encouraging everyone to read books. Choosing April 23rd seemed proper. Because it's not only the date of Cervantes' death, but also the date of the famous writer William Shakespeare's death. Besides, several famous writers were born on April 23rd, making the date special in the literature (文学) world.

Starting in 2001, every year, one city around the world would be the World Book Capital for a year. The chosen city always holds activities to encourage people of all ages at home and abroad to read and spread its values. Activities include reading books and plays, handing out bookmarks and announcing (公布) the winners of literary (文学) competitions.

On a farm lived a father and a son. The father always got up early and read books by the stove. One morning， the son came up to him and said， "Dad， I read books at night but forget most of them the next morning. What's the good of reading？"

The father didn't reply right away. He passed him a basket that was used to carry coal. He said， "Get some water from the river with the basket and then I'll tell you the answer. "

The son felt surprised but he did as his father said. He tried many times but every time the water leaked （漏掉） from the basket. 

An hour later， the son came back with the empty basket and told his father he failed. The father said with a smile， "Yes， my son. The basket can't hold water. But did you notice the basket was different？" Just then the son found the basket wasn't dirty any more. The father continued， "Reading is like holding water with the basket. We can't hope to remember all we read， but we have changed while reading. "

Martin got an important lesson from his teacher Mr. Lee. He will never forget it. 

One day, Martin and Mr. Lee went out for a walk. They reached a farm where Martin saw a pair of old shoes. They seemed to belong to (属于) a poor farmer who would return after a whole day of hard work. Martin thought of an idea, "Why don't we hide these shoes and wait? It will be fun to watch his reaction (反应) when he can't find his shoes. " Mr. Lee thought about it for a while and asked Martin to put some coins in his shoes. 

The farmer finished his work. As he put his foot in the shoes, he felt something hard. He was amazed to find coins. He took them out and saw if (是否) someone was looking for them. He didn't see anyone, so he kept them in his pocket. He got moved and tears came out of his eyes. 

The farmer looked at the sky, "Many thanks to that unknown person. You help me at the time of need. 

Because of your kindness and help, now I can buy medicine (药) for my wife and bread for my hungry children. "

Martin's eyes were full of tears. Mr. Lee said, "Now tell me what makes you happier. "

 Martin said, "I understand the joy of giving is much more than taking. "

Su Shi, also known as Su Dongpo, was an outstanding Chinese poet ( 政治家), who lived during the Song Dynasty from 1037 to 1101. 

Su Shi was born into a well﹣known family in Meishan, Sichuan province. His father and brother were both great poets. Su Shi showed great talent from a young age and was known for his skills in handwriting and painting. At the age of 20, Su Shi successfully passed the imperial ( 科 举 ), Su held a number of different government positions across China. However, his different opinions often got him into trouble because of disagreements at court, he was exiled (流放) three times. In 1079, Su Shi was even sent to prison. Although he got out of prison at last, Su Shi's literary(文学） talent continued to shine, and he produced a great number of' poetic works during his lifetime. In 1080, he found peace in nature and produced some of his best works. The famous poem, "Red Cliff", was one of them. Su Shi's talent was beyond poetry, as he was also a great prose writer. His article "On the Love of the Lotus" shows his love for the beauty of the flower. In addition, his collection of short stories shows his humour and wisdom. 

It was not only in the literary field that Su Shi was highly praised. As an official, he won the love and support of the people. During his services, he did a lot for the people. In 1077, he protected the city from a terrible flood. The people in Xuzhou were thankful to him and gave him some food as presents. 

Although Su Shi's life was filled with both achievements and troubles, he is remembered as one of the greatest people in Chinese history, and his creative talents and strong spirit continue to influence and guide people around China. 

In 1942,a boy named Stephen was born in England. He liked discovering things and it was a1 for him to take clocks apart.

 He could keep reading books at meals, but he found school 2 and didn't try very hard."He 3 finishes his homework!" said one. "Also, his handwriting is really messy!" Most of the other kids considered him strange, but Stephen didn't 4 being thought of as different. He made friends with other boys who shared the same 5 with him. They liked to have big discussions about the universe.

 One day, Stephen read about a new kind of machine called"computer" in a newspaper."With one of those, I could 6 the rules of the universe!" he thought. At that time, computers were very big and 7 . There was no way a schoolboy could afford one, so Stephen and his friends decided to 8 their own computer. They got the parts from clocks and old electronic devices. The other kids were all amazed when they presented it in class!

 When Stephen was 21, he got a special 9 so he was unable to walk or talk. However, he did not let this stop him from 10 the important theories about the universe. Stephen Hawking became famous as one of the most important scientists of all time!
