I moved here three years ago, and because of my business, I needed to fly both to China and the United States often. When I traveled alone, I felt lonely because I didn't speak English well. I made a decision that I had to learn English well.

I came to Rita Colina's class at the Chinese Community Center in Houston. Before the class, I always walked away when I met any foreigner. It's completely different now. I try to communicate with Americans in English by myself. Now I like to talk to foreigners. Not only the life becomes more flexible, but also I really love to live here.

I learn English in four ways:

First of all, I listen to what the teacher teaches in class. Then I keep speaking during the class.

Second, I do my homework right away when I get home. I memorize at least five vocabulary words every day.

Third, I listen to American radio stations, and I watch the TV news and other American programs with my family every day. I ask them whatever I don't know.

Finally, I go to American stores as often as possible so I will have more chances to learn more new words, and find any chance to talk to Americans in English.

Anyway, the most important thing is not to be afraid to open your mouth. It doesn't matter even though you speak incorrectly. It's the key, you know.

Kaitlin Riffel's dream to end poverty(贫困) started when she was visiting her father, who worked for the homeless.

"I never realized there were people in the world who didn't have a home or food before," said Kaitlin. who is now sixteen. "I knew there was something I had to do about that."

At the age of eight, she started raising money to build a playground. "It took me two years," Kaitlin said. "We started small. We wanted to do something to make a difference."

In 2014, when Kaitlin was thirteen, she visited Central America, and saw people going hungry and families living in houses made of cardboard. That year, she set up Kids on a Mission, which has helped hundreds of people there.

"The rooms were smaller than my bedroom, but there would be eight people living in each one," Kaitlin said. "We also got to see the dirty rivers that those people were drinking out of."

Providing clean drinking water, food and clothes for people living in poverty is now an important task for Kids on a Mission. "This young lady is changing the hearts of people, and also changing the world," said the headmaster of Kaitlin's school.

Adrian is 7 yeas old and his young brother Tommy is 5. They are lovely and1 . Their mom is nice and they always2 what their mom says. 

One day，their mother took them to their aunt's house to3 . The children played for an hour，and then their aunt took Adrian into the4 . 

She gave5 a delicious cake and a knife and said to him， " Here's a knife，Adrian，cut this6 in half （两半）and give one of the pieces to your brother，7 remember to do it like a gentleman （绅士）. "

"Like a gentleman？ " Adrian asked. "8 do gentlemen do it？"

"They always give the9 piece to the other person. " answered his aunt. 

"Oh，" said Adrian. He thought about this for a few seconds（秒）. Then he took the cake to his10 and said to him， "Cut this in half like a gentleman，Tommy. "

I'll never forget the day when I went on a hot- air balloon trip. It was a birthday gift from my aunt. 

I had to 1 early, but it wasn't a problem. I couldn't sleep because I was so excited. 

My parents and my aunt came to 2 . They waved (挥手) as I got into the balloon. There were five other people and the pilot (飞行员) in it. When we took off, it was quite 3 and I couldn't hear anything. Then it became much quieter, I can't describe the 4 . It felt like a dream. The sky was blue and clear. I could see all the people below us. They were getting smaller and smaller 5 we got higher and higher. 

6 , a rainstorm began! The balloon started to drop. The pilot decided to land as quickly as possible, but he couldn't control (控制) the balloon. The wind was 7 us to the sea. It was very scary (吓人)!

Very soon, the 8 changed direction and we were finally able to land on a hill. We got out of the balloon. Luckily, no one was hurt. I could walk back to my 9 and show them I was OK. 

Was I 10 ? Yes, a little. Will I ever do it again? Not sure!

This is Jack's first day of the new term(学期). He meets a girl at the school gate（大门）. 

"Nice to meet you, " he says to the girl. "I'm Jack. ____"The girl is happy to meet him and says, "Nice to meet you, too. I am Maria. "

Now they are in their classroom. They see many new things in it———desks, chairs, books, pencil boxes, schoolbags and some flowers. "What a nice classroom! I like it, " Maria says. "Yes, it is. I like it, too, " Jack says. 

Then they hear（听见）the bell at 8：00 am. It's time for class. A new teacher gets into the classroom. She wears a pair of glasses. "She must be our English teacher, " Jack says to Maria. "I think so, "Maria says. 

"Hello, boys and girls!" the teacher says. "I'm Gina Brown. This is our first class. Let's have English now. "Jack starts his happy day. 

One day I was invited to Ben's house for dinner. 

All the friends invited were a little 1 . Because Ben never spends more than he has to. So 2  did he invite us around for a meal? Had he bought anything 3  for us? He greeted us at the door and showed us into his dining room where a clean 4  was waiting for us. We all sat down around the table and looked 5  at each other — what was he up to?

Ben returned with four bowls of hot soup. "It's a mixture of carrots, 6  and tomatoes, " said Ben. The next di sh was also a little strange 7  we didn't quite know what it was. It's just another mixture of vegetables. "Was there a recipe(食谱) for this?" asked Marina. Ben put his fork down and said, "What I 8  depended on what I could find. " Marina was more surprised. "But you can find almost 9  in supermarkets these days. ""Well, there are 10  choices of the food you can find outside supermarkets, " he replied. 

11  that we had all finished the food, Ben decided to tell the truth. Recently, he had read that supermarkets usually 12  5% of their food every day. So Ben decided to look 13  his local supermarket's bins. There he found food which was nearly out of date — boxes of throwaway vegetables and fruit. 

Finally Ben had successfully provided a special 14  for us, and made us realise the 15  that there are many poor people who need the food, but the amount of food thrown away is enough to feed millions of people.
