Mason has seen the future—and it's fun. Mason likes thinking about how machines can make our life easier by doing the work we hate, such as cleaning. He shows a floor cleaning machine that's built into the wall. It can clean up the floor.

    When it comes to the kitchen, Bruce, an expert at Whirlpool, is sure that in a few years, robots will be doing most of the boring work, freeing us to relax. "More than just fun, future kitchens will be environmentally friendly," he says. A new system will be built in the house which can recycle energy lost from your kitchen to make the whole home warm.

    "The fridge will be the centre of the home," says Daniel, a market expert. The fridge will have a touch screen (触摸屏幕) where you can watch TV, surf the Internet, check your emails, keep a shopping list and order vegetables. "Your fridge is the first place you go to in the morning and the last place at night," says Daniel.

    "I wonder why a 1.9-metre man and 1.6-metre woman have to cook meals on counters (柜台) of the same height," Jane Langmuir, an expert of cooking machines, says. "But times have changed. We have made a new counter where you can press a button and it moves to whatever height you want."

    Ted Selker has made the dish maker which lets you make dishes and bowls out of plastics at home. After each meal, the dishes are changed straight back into plastics.

A walk in the forest

I'm Grace. I live on a farm with my parents and take Benji, my pet dog, for a walk most days after school.

Wednesday

As I was going through the forest it started raining hard. Suddenly, I slipped and fell on the ground. Ouch! That hurt. Then a voice said, "Are you all right? That was a bad fall." I looked up and saw a boy about my age. He helped me up. "I haven't seen you at school. Do you live near here?" I asked. "No, I'm from Manchester," he said. "Listen! I have to go. Are you OK to walk home? Do you need help?" "No, I'm fine. Thanks!" I said, then the boy walked away.

Back home, Mum was watching the news.

"Hi, Grace. Have you heard about this boy, Mark?" she asked. "No, what boy?" I said. "A boy from Manchester. He's run away from home. Look! This is his dad."

There was a man on TV sitting next to a policeman. He was crying and looked as if he hadn't slept for days. Then they showed a photo of the missing boy. I knew him. It was the boy in the forest. He was Mark. "Should I say something? No, I mustn't say anything. Maybe he has a good reason. I have to talk to him first." I said to myself.

Thursday

I found Mark in the forest. I said, "Your dad was on TV last night. The police are looking for you." He looked shocked and asked, "Did you say anything? Have you told them?" "No," I said. "I wanted to talk to you first. Why have you run away?" He looked at the ground and said, "I had a big argument with my dad. My mum died four years ago. It was very hard for me and for Dad. But then he met someone new. Mel's her name. She wants my dad for herself and isn't interested in me. My dad keeps telling me to make an effort with her, but I can't. The night I ran away, he told me that we would all move to London because Mel's from London. But my grandpa and my friends are in Manchester. I don't want to move to London. We both got angry. So I took my tent and left in the middle of the night."

I felt sorry for Mark, but I thought of his dad crying on TV and felt sorry for him too. "What are you going to do?" I asked.

"I don't know. I need time to think," he replied.

Ghosts of our loved ones

Many people think things like ghosts and death are scary. But in fact, we just had a festival celebrating these things.

Every year, on the 15th day of the seventh month in the Chinese lunar calendar, we celebrate Zhongyuan Festival, or Ghost Festival. It is on August 30th this year. On this day, families light lanterns to help dead people find their way home. But at the same time, living people don't want to stay out at night during Ghost Festival. They believe ghosts may hurt them.

Ghost Festival and Tomb-Sweeping Day, or Qingming Festival are both holidays that honor the dead. During Ghost Festival, the spirits of all dead people are honored. But we only honor our dead family members at Qingming. People believe the spirits of the dead would come back to Earth during Ghost Festival, but not during Qingming.

In Chinese culture, death is a scary and heavy thing. People are mostly afraid of it. But in some other cultures, death is a less gloomy（阴郁的） thing. 

In the US, people remember the dead on Halloween. But they make it a fun festival. People wear scary clothes. Children do fun things, like trick-or-treating.

In Mexico, the Day of the Dead is a time for the living to connect with the dead. They make dolls of the dead and tell stories about them. There are also parties at night. Whether you like it or not, death is apart of life. Understanding death can help us cherish(珍惜) our time here and live best lives.

Marie was born on September 8th,1973 in London,England. She was the daughter of John,a rich and famous man. Though she was born famous,her parents wanted her to live a normal and independent life. She went to a state school and earned pocket money on her own. When she wanted pocket money,she had to clean dishes at a restaurant near her home.

Though Marie had the look to become a model,she was most interested in becoming a fashion designer. At the age of thirteen,she made her first jacket. 

Three years later,she started working on her first fashion design collection. When she attended college,some students called her "Daddy's Girl".But when her graduation fashion show came out,she made them surprised.

Later,she worked for some famous brands and achieved great success. In 2001,she started her own brand and began to have some famous customers. Now she is a world-famous fashion designer.

John Brown has a big family. Let's look at his family tree. These are his grandparents. His grandfather's 1 is Peter Brown. Cindy is his grandma. She wears a purple jacket. Her favorite 2 is purple. They have two 3 , Frank and Dale, and a daughter (女儿) , Helen. Frank is John's father. He can play the 4 well. Dale is John's uncle. He has so many animals on his big 5 , such as horses, ducks, 6 and cows. 

7 is that girl? She is John's8 . She is his uncle's daughter and her name is Mary. She loves gardening, so she spends a lot of time on the 9 every day. Eric is John's brother. He always goes 10 on weekends because he likes travelling (旅游) on foot. 

 Look! This is our new school! You can find three buildings and a playground. It's not very big,1 it's really beautiful. We love it very much!

 As a new student of junior high, I make some plans. Firstly,2 many new subjects, so I need to get ready for every lesson. Secondly, I will start a hobby. There are many 3 to join. I decide to join Basketball Club because I have 4 basketball friends.

 My parents ask me, "5 do you feel about the new school life?" I say, "It 6 me excited, but I am a bit worried. I have a lot of tasks and homework. It's hard7 my time. What should I do?" They give me 8 paper boat and say, "Dear, you will face new problems. Sometimes, you have to sail your boat by yourself. 9 fact, it's OK to make mistakes. Just try10 best and work hard. We are always here to help." I feel so warm and thankful about their words.

All in all, I will enjoy my journey in junior high.
