After the Chengdu FISU World University Games ended, it's said that the venues(场馆)will be used for sports and public fitness.

The city had 49 venues for the events and 13 of them were newly built. Most of the old venues are located in universities and will be used for the development of sports between colleges.

While preparing for the games, Chengdu promoted the opening of the venues to the public and held sports events in them. In 2022 alone, venues were opened to the public for free or at low cost for nearly 80,000 hours. They served more than 5.09 million people, and more than 730 sporting events were held in them. These venues will continue to be used for sports and fitness.

In the short term, Chengdu will focus on opening venues to benefit its residents(居民). It can also meet their growing needs for sports and fitness to improve their health.

The athletes' village will also remain. During the games, it provided many services for athletes from more than 110 countries. After the games ended, all of the village's facilities(设施) will be under the control of Chengdu University, where the village is located. Gong Jia, a volunteer from the university, said she was proud that the village was located in her school.

The village covers 380,000 square meters of new buildings. "All of them will be turned into teaching and living space for teachers and students at the university," she said.

    Nearly 7,000 medical workers in the team supporting Central China's Hubei province left the capital, Wuhan, the hardest-hit city in the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, and went back to their hometowns on Tuesday, March 31, marking the largest scale departure (离开) of medics (医学工作者)since the first group left on March 17. The Civil Aviation Administration of China has organized 51 planes to support the departure.

    More than 42,000 medics from other parts of the country have joined the battle with local medics to fight against COVID-19. The support teams came from 21 provinces, cities and autonomous regions(自治区) and some of them worked on several battlefields during the past months. The support team from the First Hospital of China Medical University in Shenyang, was among those in the group. Sixty members were in charge of treating COVID-19 patients in 100 beds in the Union Hospital and treated 174 patients who have been seriously ill since they arrived on Feb 10.

    Wang Zhenning, the leader of its support team, expressed his thanks to the Wuhan people who offered great help to them. "I am proud towitness and play a role in history. We've been here, seen it happen and become better. Wuhan is our second hometown. We will forever care about the city and the people fighting with us." he said.

    Wuhan city government showed great thanks to all medics in a letter, expressing their gratefulness of the medics' efforts to save lives in the battle. "Thanks to your arrival, Wuhan welcomes today's peace and stability. We will always remember your kindness!" the letter said. In it, the city government also invited the medics to visit Wuhan in the future for sightseeing. Local people volunteered to line up and see medics off as the medics left for home after finishing their mission(使命) in Wuhan. Wuhan traffic police led the way for medics to the airport.

Help design 2026 Commonwealth Games mascot(吉祥物) Schoolchildren will be asked to help design a mascot to represent Victoria,Australia for the 2026 Commonwealth Games(英联邦运动会).The Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games mascot,to be announced late next year,will replace the 2022 Birmingham Game's Perry the bull.The director,Jeroen Weimar stressed the process would include sending staff into classrooms to ask kids what they want as a symbol of the Games.

The Kids News Short Story Competition runs from May 1 to 26 and is free to enter.The competition has four age groups:Kindergarten to Year 2;Years 3-4;Years 5-6 and Years 7-9.Stories must be between 250 and 750 words for students in Kindergarten to Year 4;and between 500 and 1000 words for students in Years 5 to 9.The judges,will choose the winning entries,with the first prize winner in each age group scoring 10 copies of their short story published into a printed book with a personally designed cover.There are also prizes for one runner-up and three highly commended entries in each age group.

It's the best-known doll brand in the world,and now in a world first,Mattel has released a Barbie who has Down syndrome.The doll will be one of the company's 2023 Barbie Fashion collection,part of Mattel's bid in recent years to increase the differences of its dolls.To create the doll with Down syndrome,the toy company worked with the US National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS).The Barbie dolls have features what a person with Down syndrome has,including the face,which has a rounder shape,smaller ears,and a flat nose.
