I was not surprised when my 89-year-old father called me and said that he wanted to come to my farm. He always liked1and being busy.

He asked, “Peg, I hear you are going to pull sick cows out of the cowshed (牛棚) for2. Do you think I can help pull them out?” He asked me twice after my long silence. I just didn't want to3him, so I had to reply, “Dad, you can come over here and try it.”

We continued to do work on our cows. When there were three left, my father4. I helped him put on the protection suit. For an old man, it was a really5task, but he finally made it. I noticed Dad's tears sparkling in his eyes, which were the tears of6that he still managed to pull three cows out.

My workers were all moved and admired him very much. I also felt7that I had such a great father. During those years, my father worked as a pilot, a pilots' trainer, a husband and a father. He treated everything8. He set an example to me that I should create a better life with hard work,9and responsibility. Bearing this in mind, I went from an ordinary farm worker to an able farm10. I owed all this to my father.

Clark and Dale were staying in the same room in a hospital. Clark was so sick that he could not even move his body._He had to spend all his time lying on his back. Dale could sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon. His bed was next to the room's only window. 

Over time, Clark and Dale became good friends. Every afternoon, Dale would look out of the room's only window, describing the scenery outside for his friend. He told Clark about the flowers in a park outside the window, the people walking by, the green trees beside roads—anything that might interest a man. 

One morning, when a nurse came to check on the two men, she found that Dale had died in his sleep. As soon as the room seemed tidy again, Clark asked if he could move to the bed next to the window so that he could look out of the window himself. The nurse agreed. Slowly, he could take his first look at the world outside. To his surprise, he could see nothing but a blank wall of another building. 

The nurse explained that Dale had been blind. He had never seen anything outside the window at all—but he described beautiful scenes to help his friend feel better.

Last summer, I went hiking along the riverside with my mother and some friends. The river was not deep, but it was running fast. The rocks in the river were slippery(滑的). We walked carefully, but the freezing water still wet our shoes and trousers. I was getting very cold and tired. I wanted to give up, but when I saw other kids moving so fast, I felt sorry. This pushed me to keep following them, even though I was far behind. It was even more difficult during the last part of the walk. I became so tired out that I missed my steps and fell several times. But with the help of my mother and my friends, I got to my feet and kept going each time I fell.

At last, we arrived at our place by a lake. Everybody jumped into the pool. When it was my turn, I was very afraid and tried to hide around a corner. My friends noticed this and said to me, "Come on, Kevin! You can do this!" With my eyes closed, I jumped into the pool.

Although I am not as strong as my friends, I completed our walk. This experience made me realise what perseverance is, and how important it will be to everyone in life! If I exercise hard every day, I can become strong like my friends.
