Once upon a time, there was a young man called Ma Liang He was poor. But he was kind and hard-working and liked drawing. One night, he dreamed(梦见)that an old man gave him a magic paintbrush(神奇的画笔)and asked him to use it to help poor people. When he woke up, he found the magic paintbrush in his desk.

From that day on, he used the paintbrush whenever people needed help. When he saw that people had no water to use or drink, he drew a river and the river came to life. People could bring water from the river.

Then many people knew about the magic paintbrush. But a few days later, a rich and bad man heard that the magic paintbrush could turn everything to life. He took the magic paintbrush away from Ma Liang's house and put Ma Liang into prison(监牢). Then he drew a lot of pictures with the paintbrush, but they could not become real.

So he said to Ma Liang, "If you draw some pictures for me and make them real, I will make you free."

The young man agreed and drew a sea first. Then he drew a golden mountain which was far away from the sea. The bad man said, Draw a big ship quickly. I want to go there to get the gold."

After the young man drew a big ship, the bad man jumped into the ship with his family and friends quickly. When the ship moved to the middle of the sea, the young man drew a large wave(波浪)and they never came back.

A British woman used an ancient Chinese invention to help her son deal with a modern problem. 

Dr. Rashmi Mantri grew up in India. She was taught how to use an abacus to solve math problems when she was a little girl. After noticing her son Dhruv had great difficulty with math，she started emploving the same ancient Chinese tool to help him after school. 

In just six days，Dhruv started to show rapid progress with the abacus. He enjoyed learning on it because it was like a game. He started to learn fast and would go on to become an excellent student in math. Surprised by the progress，teachers asked Dhruv to perform with the abacus at a school meeting，where some parents even came to ask for advice on using it to help their kids. 

Known as the Fifth Invention of Ancient China，the Chinese abacus helped people so lve all kinds of math problems in ancient China and is still used today. People find that using an abacus can also improve thinking and practical abilities. In 2013, the Chinese abacus was officially listed as an intangible cultural heritage of human beings(人类非物质文化遗产). "The abacus becomes a playing tool for younger children. It feels like a game. I think the success comes because children can touch and feel an abacus and picture it in their mind. "said Dr. Mantri. 

He is always in my heart. I couldn't believe I lost him. As I think of my father, tears fill my eyes and stream down my face. 

My dad always wanted to go to Canada, so he wrote a letter to one of my uncles in Canada for help. My uncle successfully got a visit visa(签证)for my dad. So he flew to Canada, looking for a better life for his kids. That year, I was six. 

After a few months, dad wrote us a letter saying he was fine and happy. That letter, and its many fellows(伙伴)down the years, all with the same words, kept coming to our doors for 11 years. Yet, even as he lived here in Canada, his health was failing him―but fearing we would worry he never let on about his ill health. He spent these years in Canada working hard; finally after 11 years when he got his landed immigrant(永久居民)paper, he wrote us saying all of us could move to Canada. 

We were all happy that we would finally be together. It was to be a huge family reunion(重聚). Sadly my father did not live to see his family reunion as he suffered a serious heart attack. 

Yes, Canada is a wonderful country. So many times I can't help thinking it was here that my dad was taken away from us. When I miss him, I want someone to hold me and give me a hug. And when I see how everyone gives his father gifts on Father's Day, wishing them a long, happy life, I want to do the same. But to whom can I give my Father's Day gift and card? Where can I get the same warm loving hug again?

At the 17th Paralympic Games(残奥会) in Paris, Liu Yu, a 35- year- old disabled swimmer, was1 after winning the third place in the women's backstroke 50m(女子50米仰泳).

Liu was born with illness and couldn'2 . She had to use a wheelchair and stayed in a children's hospital.3 , the elder kids in the hospital cared for this young girl. Like her 4 , they taught her to be strong.

At the age of 15, Liu had the chance to learn how to swim and showed her talent in the pool." I loved the feelings of 5 and was not scared at all. It was so wonderful to move 6 without having to use legs."

Staying 7 is the key to her success."I was 24 years old then and it was so tiring to stay in the water six hours a day. But I never 8 and finally made it."

In 2019, she was 9 by the National Team. This year, she won a bronze medal(铜牌).

" Although it's my last Paralympic Games, I'm happy with this result." said Liu."I want to tell people that no matter what happened to you, never10 and you will finally succeed!"
