As we know, it is important to be honest with children. But there are some things in this world that simply aren't 1 . Sometimes it makes sense for parents to2to their children.

    I still remember my three-year-old daughter's face when we watched the 3that twenty children at Sandy Hook Elementary School had been killed. Magic, imagination and creativity are very essential in life, 12 for children. These stories battle against the negative aspects of the world and create 13. In the end children will be able to 14what is true and what was made to 15their lives. Out of five brothers and a sister I can happily report that not one of the children I grew up with was16when we discovered who all those17people really were.

    In life, a parent is the 18of knowledge, and it is up to the parent to decide what knowledge to teach and when. There's no 19to tell children all about the truth. As they become20, they will have a better understanding of the world.

    My father was a self-taught mandolin player. He was one of the best string instrument players in our town. Dad loved to play the mandolin for his families, who enjoyed listening to his play and1the Tennessee Waltz, Hatbor nights, Silver Bells, and so on. Dad was always there,2his time and efforts to see that his family had3in their life. If he could give pleasure to others, he4especially his families. I had to mature into a man and have children of my own5I realized how much he had sacrificed.

    I 6 the United States Air Force in January of 1962. Whenever I come home on7I would ask Dad to play the mandolin. He could touch your soul with the 8 that came out of that old instrument. He seemed to 9when he was playing you could see his pride in his ability to play so well for his family.

    While working at Todd Steel, Dad was 10in an accident. He got the third index finger of his left hand 11 between two pieces of steel. The doctor who operated12the finger could not save it, and Dad ended up having the tip of the finger13. He didn't lose enough of the finger,14it wouldn't stop him picking up anything, but it did15his ability to play the mandolin.

After the accident, Dad would make16for why he couldn't play. We wore him down and17he said "Okay, but remember, I can't hold down on the strings18I used to".19 for the family it didn't make any 20that Dad couldn't play as well.

    Of the many interactions I had with my mother those many years ago,one stands out with clarity（明理）.I remember the1when mother sent me to the main road,about twenty yards away from our home,to2a passing group of seasonal work-seekers home for a3.She instructed me to take a container along and4dry cow waste for making a fire.I was then to5the meal for the group of work-seekers.

    The6of making an open fire outside at midday,7in a large three-legged pot in that intense heat,was enough to8even an angel.I did not manage to9my feelings from my mother and,after10the group,she called me to the room where she usually sat to11her sewing and knitting.

    Looking straight into my eyes,she said,"Tom,why did you get angry when I12you to prepare a meal for those13people?"Despite my attempt to deny her allegation（责怪）,and using the14of the fire and the sun as a(n)15for my behaviour,mother,giving me a16look,said “Lonao ga lo na nko”一“A foot has no nose”.It means: you cannot detect what17may lie ahead of you.

    Had I18to provide this group of people a meal,it may have happened that,in my travels some time in the future,I19myself at the mercy of those very individuals.As if that was not enough to20me,mother continued, "Motho ke motho ka motho yo mongwe."The literal meaning:“A person is a person because of another person.”

    Children find meanings in their old family tales.

    When Stephen Guyer's three children were growing up, he told them stories about how his grandfather, a banker, 1 all in the 1930s, but did not lose sight of what he valued most.     It was early one hot morning in 2015 when, accompanied by my mother, I was 1 wheeled to the taxi stand. Three weeks earlier, I had 2 my left ankle at home. Now, I was on my way to being 3 for an operation at the Philippine General Hospital.

    To this day we have not 18 again this friendly driver who went out of his way, but his generosity towards us has 19 in our minds and taught me to keep watch for and help others 20.

    When most of us get a text message on our cell phone from an unknown person, we usually say "sorry, 1 number!" and move on. But when Dennis Williams 2 a text that clearly wasn't intended for him, he did something 3.
