In much of Asia, especially the so-called “rice bowl” cultures of China, Japan, Korea, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Vietnam, food is usually eaten with chopsticks.

    Chopsticks are usually two long, thin pieces of wood or bamboo. They can also be made of plastic, animal bone or metal. Sometimes chopsticks are quite artistic. Truly elegant chopsticks might {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (make) of gold and silver with Chinese characters. Skilled workers also combine various hardwoods and metal {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (create) special designs.

    The Chinese have used chopsticks for five thousand years. People probably cooked their food in large pots, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (use) twigs（树枝）to remove it. Over time, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the population grew, people began cutting food into small pieces so it would cook more quickly. Food in small pieces could be eaten easily with twigs which {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(gradual) turned into chopsticks.

    Some people think that the great Chinese scholar Confucius, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} lived from roughly 551 to 479 B.C., influenced the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (develop) of chopsticks. Confucius believed knives would remind people of killings and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (be) too violent for use at the table.

    Chopsticks are not used everywhere in Asia. In India, for example, most people traditionally eat {#blank#}10{#/blank#} their hands.

    My most {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (embarrass) moment occurred last month. I was invited to attend {#blank#}2{#/blank#} interview for a job as a hotel receptionist. I arrived on time and was shown into the manager's office by m an {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (assist). I was {#blank#}4{#/blank#} nervous that I didn't catch the manager's name.

    The interview began, “Do you have any previous experience in hotels?” asked the manager. “No sir,” I said. The manager frowned (皱眉). “Are you good {#blank#}5{#/blank#} using computers?” “Yes, Sir, I am {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (family) with most popular kinds of software. The manager frowned again. He didn't look a friendly person- The interview continued. Every answer I gave {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (receive) by a frown from the manager, even though I told him about my communication skills, my knowledge of French and so on.{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (obvious), I was doing very badly. At last, the interview came to a close. “One final question,” said the manager. “How good is your eyesight?” “Excellent, sir,'' I replied. “Very well,'' said the manager, “Thank you for coming.” I stood up {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (shake) hands with him. When the manager stood up as well, I realized {#blank#}10{#/blank#} I had been doing wrong. The gentleman I had been calling “sir” during the whole interview was wearing a skirt! The manager was a woman! I didn't get the job.

    The best way to deal with sports injuries is to keep them from happening in the first place. Knowing the rules of the game you're playing and using the right {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (equip) can go a long way toward preventing injuries. If you think you've been injured, pull {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (you) out of the game or stop {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (do) your activity or workout. Let a coach or parent know what happened in case you need to see a doctor. Serious head and neck injuries happen most often in athletes {#blank#}4{#/blank#} play contact sports like football. Keep the injured person still with his or her head {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (hold) straight while someone calls for emergency {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (medicine) help. If the person {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (lie) on the ground, do not try to move him or her.

    Your first question after a sports injury will {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (probable) be, "When can I play again?" This depends on the injury and what your doctor tells you. Even if you can't return to your sport right away, a doctor might have suggestions and advice {#blank#}9{#/blank#} what you can do to stay fit. Always check with your doctor {#blank#}10{#/blank#} trying any activity following an injury.

    Last weekend our school held a sports meeting. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (realize) it was our last high school sports meeting, we decided to make {#blank#}2{#/blank#} an unforgettable experience for all of us.

    We first attended the opening parade, for {#blank#}3{#/blank#} our class had made a lot of {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (prepare). To our excitement, our parade performance was a great success. After the parade, the games started. My classmates attended {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (vary) events such as running, high jump and long jump. On the stand, my classmates applauded and cheered for the athletes, some raising their cameras to capture the exciting moments. Finally, the result{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (announce).
