The Philippines is trying to stir up trouble and undermine regional peace in the South China Sea. People may (对…感到困惑) why such a small country dares to provoke China, a superpower in the world. It is all because the Philippines wants to conquer Ren'ai Reef, (以及) some other reefs in the South China Sea. The Philippines allies with the US, attempting to seize these reefs located off its coast. But (有明确的证据) these reefs (属于) China. The Chinese government will never ever let these reefs (脱离) our motherland as they are treasures passed down from our ancestors.

On Saturday, the Philippines once again sent two coast guard ships and a supply ship in an attempt to transport construction materials to the disintegrating warship illegally grounded on the reef in 1999. In response, the Chinese Navy also sent a fleet of warships to (保卫仁爱礁水域免受 ) the intrusion. Now that the whole area (被包围) hundreds of civilian ships and warships, there is no slightest chance for the Philippines' ships to approach. Thanks to the great (中国已取得的成就), it will never have an inch of its territory (被带走). What the Chinese Navy has done recently (让我感到自豪) being a Chinese.

Younger students experience school bullying (欺凌) more frequently than older ones, and male students are bullied more than their female peers, a survey found.

It also found that nearly half of the students had been intentionally hit or knocked down by classmates. About 6 percent said they are targeted by bullies on campus every day. The survey also found that students from ordinary schools experienced more bullying than peers from key institutions, and children from poor families are more likely to be bullied at school.

Being bullied can have a negative impact on a child's personal development and academic performance, according to Zhou Jinyan, a researcher who led the study at Beijing Normal University. 揅hildren being bullied will find it hard to trust others,? Zhou said. 揟hey may often feel anxiety, anger, resentment or depression. These emotions will further undermine their ability to control their own life.”

In recent years, bullying on Chinese campuses has been frequently reported and has attracted widespread attention and concern. The most recent incident to arouse heated discussions took place in December at Beijing's Zhongguancun No.2 Primary School. A fourth-grade student was bullied and laughed at by classmates, causing him acute stress disorder.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate (最高人民检察院) received about 1,900 cases related to school bullying in 2016. Meanwhile, there was a notable increase in bullying reports involving middle school students from 14 to 18 years old.

Zhou came up with some ways to solve the problem, including boosting communication between teachers, parents and students and trying to establish more harmonious relationships among children. She said it was strongly suggested that parents try to be involved in their children's educational experience, as their presence and companionship have proved effective in reducing bullying and its negative effects.

New research into a long-lived tree has shown some of the tricks that have helped it survive for thousands of years. The ginkgo(银杏树) is a huge, slow-growing tree with fan-shaped leaves, native to China, but planted in parks and gardens across the world. Some of the largest ginkgoes are said to be more than 3, 000 years old.

In order to discover how these and other trees can live for so long, scientists from the US and China studied 34 healthy ginkgoes of different ages. The team studied growth rings in each tree's trunk(树干), as well as cells(细胞) from the bark, leaves and seeds. They found that 600-year-old trees were just as healthy as 2-year-olds.

To learn more, the team then looked in detail at the DNA of nine trees aged between three and 667 years old. DNA is the chemical in the cells of plants and animals that holds instructions that tell any living thing how to grow and develop-including what to do at different times in its life At the beginning of a tree's life, DNA instructs the cells in a seedling to divide quickly so the tree grows rapidly. The cells also make special chemicals to help the young plant survive difficult situations, such as disease. As most trees grow older, their DNA tells their cells to divide more slowly (so growth slows down) and to make fewer chemical defenses(防御).

Ginkgoes, however, do things differently. The team found that although their growth finally slows, both young and old trees make protective chemicals." The secret is keeping a really healthy defense system," said researcher Richard Dixon." As ginkgoes age, they show no sign of weakening their ability to defend themselves from things like disease. "Other trees that live for a long time may have the same ability.

For all their defenses, though, ginkgoes cannot live forever--they finally meet with deadly accidents such as fire, disease and storms. While they last, however, these leafy trees are some of the most beautiful trees in the world.

Art galleries are places in which artists can display all types of works of art, including paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, etc. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} At the same time, however, each artwork must be protected from exposure to too much light since that can cause works to fade and therefore get ruined. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

The most common form of lighting used to light up the artwork is indoor spotlights on tracks attached to the ceiling near where the work is being displayed. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. It permits the lights to be moved more easily when the light patterns require adjusting. Recessed(嵌入的) lights in walls and ceilings can be useful so long as they are not fixed in place but can instead be easily moved to create ideal light patterns. Most art gallery directors state that a combination of tracked and recessed light equipment is ideal because the tracked lights focus directly on the artwork while the recessed lights are used in the nearby walls to provide a surrounding light source. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

How to angle the lights depends upon the height of the ceiling and the size of the artwork. Caution must be taken to avoid creating too many areas with shadows or to have the lights cause a glare on the artwork. Besides, the lights should not be bare bulbs(电灯泡) burning directly on the artwork but should be made in some way to make the lighting softer. According to experts, low voltage(电压) bulbs are the best to use when lighting artworks. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Thus artworks should be placed in a room where sunlight cannot directly hit them.

A. It can make the displays attractive.

B. Using tracked lighting is beneficial.

C. Light plays a key role in art galleries.

D. This light source can better improve the mood surrounding the work.

E. To better improve their appearance, the display area needs to be well lit.

F. Finding a happy medium between not enough light and too much of it requires considerable skill and experience.

G. Above all, natural light should be avoided since direct sunlight will damage artworks, particularly paintings, over time.
