Today I turned eight. Today whatever I say goes. 

My grandma is cooler than most grandmas and laughs a lot,1 is the exact opposite. He's that old and serious. "Kids are impolite these days, and have no 2 ." he always says. "All they do is playing video games all the time." But I 3 play video games on weekends!

Anyway, the minute we park on the driveway, I get out and run straight to Grandma 4 Dad, who's still on the phone dealing with his business in the car as usual. "Happy birthday, honey!" Grandma holds me into her arms and says 5 that she's made my favorite chocolate cake.

And then I 6 Grandpa, who is asleep in a rocking chair, snoring （打鼾） like thunder. Can you believe it? On his only grandson's birthday! 

"7 , sleepyhead!" I call out. But more snores followed. An angry storm is coming up inside me.

"Oh, it's Parker's 8 !" Grandma calls out to Grandpa. He coughs. It seems to be ages for him to get to his feet and say, "boy, come here." But I don't 9 . 

"You and I," says Grandpa，rising slowly, "are going on a walk." 

"All right." I know what he's about to say: respect the elders, blah blah blah. But to my 10 , he says in a soft voice, "your parents are always very 11 , aren't they?"

"Hold my arms and help me into that chair. "For a second, I stood still. 12 when I see his legs shaking as he bends his knees, I rush over to hold his arms, I set him down nice and slow. "13 ," he says. He's breathing hard, like he's just climbed a mountain.

I sit down next to him. He covers my hand with his warm one. "Tell 14 all about the video game you like," he says. "Then I'll tell you some stories of my own. And we'll both listen to each other and ask good questions. Deal?"

I 15 in disbelief. And for some strange reason, it feels more like my birthday than ever.

Did you know that the Beijing Winter Olympic Village had a rooftop (屋项) farm? It covered 4, 620 square meters. To relax, athletes and coaches could try growing vegetables there.

It shows just how much Chinese people love growing vegetables.

China has a lot of available land for planting things. For centuries, Chinese people made a living through farming. The Book of Songs(《诗经》), written 2, 500 years ago, records many kinds of vegetables.

Nowadays, even though some Chinese people no longer have a lot of land, they still grow vegetables where they can.

Xue Ling, 35, is one of them. Since 2010, she has been planting vegetables on the balcony (阳台) of her apartment in Jinan, Shandong province. "It's the only way to keep my food, at least the vegetables, clean and safe," she told China Daily.

Caroline Ma from Hong Kong grows vegetables as a hobby. In 2020, Ma started farming on her rooftop and began planting seeds collected during her trips. For Ma, farming is a great experience.

"I am in my own little world and I can forget about the world's problems," she said.

It seems that planting vegetables brings more than just food for Chinese people.

I'm Martin. I'm a middle school student in England. The buildings in my school are all blue. 

Walk into the school, and you can see a big garden in front of you. There are green trees and red flowers in it. Behind the garden, that's our classroom building. It is between a library and a playground. In the classroom building, there're two science labs, four computer rooms, a theatre room and thirty classrooms. In each(每一个) classroom, there are desks, chairs and a big TV. 

After school, some students go to the library to read books. Some go to the playground to play football. And some go to the theatre room to watch plays. I like going to the theatre room with my friends. I like our school. 

 My two best friends and I were playing in the park near my house." Hey, look at that poster," Ollie shouted." The Harvest Fair sounds cool!"

" Yes! But S50 for a ticket?" said Marcya." That's a lot."

 After a while, we headed to my house. When we got home, Dad's friend Isaac came with six free tickets to the Harvest Fair. After Isaac left, Dad said," We have five people in our family. Wo'll have to find someone else who wants to go to the fair."

"I want to go!" said Mareya.

" So do I!" said Ollie.

 It took me one second to go from happy to awkward(尴尬的). Just then, my 80- year- old neighbour, Mrs Nish, came in."I just saw the poster. I love fairs! But tickets aren't cheap now."

 That's when Ollie got an idea. He quietly said something to Mareya, and Mareya told it to me, and I told it to my father.

" Well, we happen to have an extra(多余的) ticket to that fair! Would you like to join us?" my dad asked.

" Really?" Mrs Nish's face lit up." I'd like that very much!"

 Tho fair was fantasist. But the very best part was seeing Mrs Nish laughing. The next weekend, Ollie, Mareya, and I had our own Harvest Fair party at home. We played games and made a big pic while singing along to our favourite band Eagle Daze.

Can you imagine going to university at age 14? This year, Jia Zijun, from Henan, did just that. He became the 1 freshman (大一新生) at Beihang University and plans to study aircraft design. 

"I didn't know I was the youngest 2 I got here, and it feels quite cool!" Jia told The Paper. 

Jia took part in the college entrance exam in June and got a total score of 642. People often think students like him must be geniuses (天才). But Jia owes (归功于) his 3 mainly to curiosity(好奇心) and good study habits. 

"When I was in Grade 1, I was 4 about what we were going to learn next. So I borrowed Grade 2 5 and learned the lessons in my summer holidays. I enjoyed exploring new information, " he said. Because of this, Jia skipped (跳过) Grade 2, and then Grade 4. 

As he went to high school, he found things were getting 6 to learn. So he started to make plans every day and 7 goals for himself. "I would 8 follow the plan, and little by little I'd see my 9 . "

Jia would also 10 what he learned each day before going to bed. If there was something he couldn't remember well, he'd take a look at it the next morning.

Dust storms （沙尘暴） appear when a strong wind blows sand and dirt from a dry surface. Strong dust storms may cause people to die, so you should know how to protect yourself from dust storms when you meet them. 

Be careful of dust storm warnings （预告）

Dust storms probably happen on hot summer days, and it's not safe for people to travel during this period. So you should listen to the local TV or radio before travelling, and consider changing or giving up your trip if dust storms are to come. 

Be prepared

If you are in a place where storms often happen, carry a mask （面具） to keep dust and dirt away from your face, and a pair of glasses to protect your eyes. 

Stay inside

Do not move around when a dust storm comes, as you will not be able to see hidden dangers. So if you are in a house, don't go out and just stay inside. 

Protect yourself from flying objects

Cover your body as much as possible in a dust storm. A strong wind of dust storms can carry heavy objects, so you should try to stay low, and close to the ground, and protect your head with your arms or a backpack （背包）.
