Patrick Johnson，an artist for the Washington Post，found some treasure in his new house一一35，000 dollars in a place where no one could see it. Although he had car and house payments（贷款）in his head, he still decided to return all of the money to the previous（先前的）owner of the house,Mr. Williams. Would you have done the same？

     Just hours after he had bought the house，Patrick came into the small house，where he was planning to lay out his tools and hang things up. He looked up and noticed a little hole in the wall. He didn't know what it was inside， so he walked towards the wall. It was very dark inside，but an old box caught his eye.“I caught the thing，it was heavy. I thought it might be some pieces of wood，”he said. Actually it was not. It was filled with lots of dollar bills. But he and his wife knew they had to return the money to Mr. Williams.

    “I've got two boys and we teach them to be honest and to do what is right. I knew this was a teachable moment that I would never get back again.”Patrick said to his wife.“So I thought we would do something honest with it. It's been a great thing for us and our kids.”

    I've loved my mother's desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it as mother sat writing letters. Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens, and white paper, I thought that the act of writing is the coolest thing in the world.

    Years later, during her final illness, my mother kept different things for my sister and my brother.“ But the desk，” She said, “it's for Helen.”

    Although I knew she loved me and she only showed it in action, I wanted heart­to­heart talks between mother and daughter. But they never happened. And a gulf opened between us. I was “too emotional (易动感情的)”，but she lived “on the surface”．

    I had my own family later. I loved my mother and thanked her for our happy family. I wrote to her in careful words and asked her to let me know in any way she chose that she forgave me. I posted the letter and waited for her answer. It didn't come.

    My hope turned to disappointment, then little interest and finally, peace—it seemed that nothing happened. I wasn't even sure if the letter had got to mother. I only knew that I had written it, and I never heard from her!

    Now the present of her desk told, as she'd never been able to, that she was pleased that writing was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside—a photo of my father and a one­page letter, folded and refolded many times.

    Give me an answer, my letter asks, in any way you choose. Mother, you always chose the act that speaks louder than words.

    There is a bar (酒吧) with the name “The White Horse (马)”. A picture of a white horse is on the door (门) of the bar. It is Mr. Webster's. Few (很少) people go to the bar.

    One day, Mr. Wilson comes in, drinks (喝) a cup, watches the bar, and then says to Mr. Webster, “Few people come here. Take down(拿下) the picture of the white horse and put (放) a picture of a black horse.” “But the name of the bar is 'The White Horse',” Mr. Webster says. “Yes, but do it,” says Mr. Wilson.

    After that, Mr. Webster goes to a store and says, “I want a picture of a black horse.” The next day, a picture of a black horse is on the door of the bar.

    The next morning, a man comes in and asks, “The name is “The White Horse”, but why do you put a picture of a black horse on the door of your bar?” The man sits down and asks for a cup. Then a second man comes in and asks the same question, and then a third man .... Many people (许多人) come in and say, “The picture on your door is not right.” After that, they all sit down and drink in Mr. Webster's bar.

    John and Bob joined a company at the same time. They both worked very hard. After several years, Bob became the manager, but John thought it was unfair, so he gave his resignation (辞职信) to the boss.

    When the boss found out the reason why John wanted to leave, he said, "I hope you will do one more thing for our company before you leave."

    John agreed. The boss asked him to find out if anyone was selling watermelons at the market. John went and soon returned, He said he had found a man selling watermelons. The boss asked him how much they were. John shook his head and went back to the market. When he returned, he told the boss they were 1.2 dollars per kg.

    Then the boss asked Bob to find a watermelons seller at the market. Bobby went, returned and said, "Only one person is selling watermelons. 1.2 dollars per kg, 340 melons in all, and each melon weights about 2kg. They are fresh."

    John realized the difference between himself and Bob. He decided not to leave but to learn from Bob.

    When I was about 12, I had an "enemy", a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings（缺点）. Sometimes she said I was thin. Sometimes she said I was lazy. Sometimes she said I wasn't a good student. Sometirmes she said I talked too much, and so on. I tried to put up with（忍受）her as long as I could. At last, I became very angry. I ran to my father with tears in my eyes.

    He listened to me quietly, and then he asked, "Are the things she said true or not? Mary, have you ever wondered what you're really like? Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are true. Pay no attention to the other things she said. "

    I did as he told me and I was very surprised to discover that about half the things were true.

    I took the list to my dad. He refused to take it. "That's just for you," he said. "You know the truth about yourself better than any other people. When something said about you is true, it will be helpful to you. Don't shut your ears. Listen to them all, but remember the truth and do what you think is right."

    Many years have passed. The situation often appears in my mind. In our life we often meet with some trouble and we often go to someone and ask for advice. For some advice you will treasure（珍惜）all your life！

Podro is from Europe. He lives with his parents in an old house by the sea. The house is not big but he likes it very much. There are three bedrooms upstairs(楼上) one for his parents, one for his sister and one for him. The bathroom and the living room are downstairs. In the living room there is a lovely fireplace. 

In the evening, all the family sill in the living room watching TV and having dinner. At the back of the house there is a small but very beautiful garden with different plants and flowers. His father likes to spend his free time there. 

Pedro likes to spend most of his time at home in his bedroom. It's also his study. There is a desk and anew computer in it. He loves his room because he can see the sea from the window. It's a beautiful view.
