China's female swimmer Fu Yuanhui came third in Women's 100 meter backstroke(仰泳) on Monday morning(Beijing time)at Rio(里约)Olympics．China's online community has gone crazy about the 1996一born girl，not because of her performance in the semifinal or her achievement，but because of her cheerful answer to her performance during an interview by CCTV．

Finishing the 100 meter backstroke with 58.95 seconds，Fu，who thought it was 59 seconds，was quite surprised with the result．This was the first moment when she impressed Chinese audience with her surprising look and body language in front of the camera．The second time that the young swimmer amazed the audience was her honest and direct answer to a question raised by the reporter． “We know that your body condition was not that good in the past year and it's not easy to have such a result．Do you think you are now as good as before?”asked the reporter． “It is my best score ever．I have worked for three months on the recovery．Only tile ghost knows what I have come through．”said Fu．“It was so painstaking that sometimes I felt like l was going to die．”

    In the interview, Fu used a phrase ”Hong Huang Zhi Li” to describe the great efforts she has made in preparing for the competition，which soon became a popular word on the Internet．

    I remember the green coat in my fifth and sixth grades.

    When I needed a new jacket, my mother asked what kind I wanted. I described something like bikers wear. She listened long. I thought she understood for sure the kind I wanted.

    The next day when I got home from school, I discovered, on my bed, a jacket which was not what I had expected. I went close to the jacket slowly, as if it were a stranger.

    From the kitchen mother shouted that my jacket was in the closet. I rushed and pulled at the clothes in the closet, hoping the jacket on the bed wasn't for me but my brother. No luck, I wanted to cry because it was so ugly and so big. But I knew I'd have to wear it a long time before I'd have a new one. I looked at the jacket, like an enemy, thinking bad things before I took off my old and small jacket.

    I put the big jacket on. I stood in front of the mirror（镜子）, turning right and left. I looked ugly.

    I threw it on my brother's bed and looked at it for a long time before I put it on and went out, smiling a "thank you" to my mom.

    The next day I wore it to school. At the morning break, my best friend, Steve, looked at me for a long time. The girls turned away to whisper. The teachers looked my way and talked about how foolish I looked in my new jacket. When it was time for the whole school to get together on the playground,   ▲  . Although they didn't say out loud, "Man, that's ugly!" I heard their talk and even laughter.

    And so I went, in my jacket. So embarrassed, so hurt, I couldn't even do my lessons the rest of the day. I received Cs on tests.

    I wore that thing for three years. All in those years no love came to me.

    I blamed（指责）that jacket for those bad years. I blamed my mother for her bad taste and her cheap ways. It was a sad time for the heart. Anyway, I spent my sixth-grade year, looking forward to something good to happen to me.

    And it was about that time I began to grow, still in that green ugly jacket, which had become my brother who went along wherever I went.

    For his eleventh birthday, Lin was given a gift that would shape his life. On that day his father took him to the Children's Activity Centre and said he could choose any course that interested him. There was just one

Requirement: Lin would have to promise to study it for at least one year.

    To that point Lin had had many hobbies, but none kept his interest for more than a week or two. His mum once gave him a bag of stamps to encourage stamp collecting. That hobby lasted a week. Then his father got him some paints hoping that Lin's artistic side would shine through. Those paints were now under his bed, still unopened. This time Lin's parents would let him decide.

    Lin's eyes moved down the noticeboard that listed all the courses on offer. He stopped at "Photography". He liked the idea of taking beautiful pictures but the notice said that each student needed their own camera. Although Lin's family weren't poor, they weren't rich either, and a camera cost a lot of money. He continued looking.

    The next course to catch his eye was "Language Art". He didn't even know what that meant. His father explained that it taught people how to make public speeches. Lin, a shy boy, could think of nothing worse.

    Then he saw it. "Cooking" sounded like something he'd like to do. It was inexpensive and convenient. It could be done alone and it was also creative.

    Based on Lin's hobby history, his dad had doubts, but he agreed. Much to his parents' surprise, Lin kept his promise. He studied cooking at the Centre every Saturday, and practised at home, making delicious meals for his family. Everyone looked forward to birthdays, when they could eat his cakes. Lin got great satisfaction from the pleasure his food brought to others.

    The months turned to years but his hobby never changed again.

    Now Lin is an adult and runs a successful restaurant. When customers say they enjoy his meal, he still gets the same pleasure he did as a child, and remembers the special gift he received "all those years ago.

    "Some gifts are tiny. Some gifts are needed. And some gifts... some gifts are priceless, "says 26-year-old Sarah Bricker of Minneapolis, USA. She had suffered from（受…之苦） hearing loss until she received the gift two years ago for Christmas --her first hearing aids（助听器）. They were from her parents. Here's what else she says:

    "I remember the moment they were fit to my ears. And I remember every first that came after--The first time I heard my mother's voice. The first time I heard my father cry as he realized 1 could hear my mother. The first time I listened to Winter Wonderland on the radio and heard every word clearly. The first time I heard my best friend's voice, calling from England to wish me a Merry Christmas.

    "My hearing aids are probably the best Christmas gift my parents have ever given to me. It might sound strange to say that, but until you lose your hearing, you never fully understand how unbelievablly valuable it is. How you miss the moment your partner says 'I love you. How you miss the jokes that everyone laughs at. How you miss- life. But now I don't miss life anymore."

    However, he hearing aids were more than Just about hearing. They gave Sarah self-confidence（自信）,more chances to make new friends, the courage to take on new challenges. "Every day, they return to me a moment, a sound, a voice. They return to me the kaleidoscope（万花筒） of a life I'd once thought forever dark."

    An old man lived with his little grandson. Every day the old man got up early to read books.

    One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa, I want to read books as you. But I always forget what I read. What are the advantages of reading?

    The grandfather didn't answer him, but he said to the boy, Take this little basket to the river and bring back a basket of water for me. "The boy went to the river to fill the basket with water but all the water leaked out before he got back home. The boy was sad, but his grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to walk faster next time.

    The next time the boy ran faster, but the basket was still empty before he retumed home. The boy said, "See, Grandpa, it's no use!"

    "Is it useless ""the old man said "Look at the basket."

    The boy looked at the basket and found that the basket was different. It was much cleaner.

    That's what happens when you read books. Maybe you can't understand or remember everything. Something will change in your mind after you read. Just like the basket.

    Mark Twain, as you know, was famous in his day as a public speaker. In his public speeches he always tell funny stories. He also liked to listen to funny stories and to play jokes on his friends. One day one of his friends lost his wallet and asked Mark Twain to pay his train fare for him. "But I don't have enough money to pay both your fare and mine, "Mark Twain said. The friend didn't know what to do. "We can do this, "said Mark Twain." We can get on the train and when the conductor comes to check the tickets, you can hide under my seat." Later, however, when the conductor came to check the tickets, Mark Twain gave him two tickets, one for his friend and one for himself. Then he explained in a loud voice, "My friend is a strange man. When he travels on a train, he doesn't like to sit on the seat." Of course everybody in the train looked at the poor friend and laughed at him loudly.
