Last month I took my son Tom to see his grandparents in the countryside. As soon as we arrived, Tom followed his grandpa to play in the. yard. I knew he was1 about everything in his grandparents' home.

At lunch table, Tom told me 2 , "Dad, I saw a hen flying."

"Impossible!" I said without 3 . "How can a hen fly?"

"The dog kept running after the hen in the4 . Finally, the hen found no other way out, she

suddenly5 to the top of the house. The hen ran away successfully. Dad, I didn't know a hen could fly before.  6 can a hen fly?"

I thought for a while and said, "Maybe because of love. The hen loves her own life, 7 she tries her best to fly away from the danger!" Tom nodded. He seemed to have8 .

Last weekend we visited Tom's grandparents again, I was 9 Grandma in the kitchen, when I heard Tom shouting from the yard, "Dad! The dog is10 the hen again! Come to see!"

I ran out of the house quickly. I saw the hen running to a group of chickens, with the dog running after11 . Then the hen stopped suddenly and faced the dog12 , with her two wings (翅膀) opening out to 13 her children. "Dad, why didn't the hen fly away? She knows she14 beat the dog," asked Tom.

I answered after a while, "Maybe because of love. The hen loves her children more than her15 ."Tom thought for a long time and nodded. He seemed to have understood.

 请阅读下面短文,理解其大意,然后从每小题所给的A、B、C三个选项中,选出一个能填入空白处的最佳选项。

When I was a little girl, one of my favorite things was a shoebox. I filled it up with pieces of paper, envelopes and posters that I had collected. I called the box my "Post Office". 1 I was free, I would take it out and pour my "letters" on the floor. I grouped the "letters" and then put them back into the box.

This led me to 2 a new hobby — writing letters to children I had never met. It was 3 to send my written pages to people far away. And I loved this feeling. My best penfriends were Svetlana in Belarus and Alastair in central England.

I first 4 spoke out my dream of being a songwriter to Alastair. Actually, I had never written a single song and I had no idea how to do so. But I decided to realize this dream— well, I should never let my best friends 5 . I started to discover my favorite 6 and thought about how I should write a song.

As I grew older, I had more people to write to, for example, kids I had met on school trips. The freedom I found to 7 myself in letters is one of my greatest memories of childhood.

On my journey into adulthood, my love for writing letters never left me. As I now create music, I always remember my childhood 8 . Releasing(发行) new songs is similar to sending out handwritten letters. My "Post Office" is where I got started.

The writer, Laura Kidd, is a British record producer and songwriter.
