Today is the fifth day of the new term. It {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(rain) when I was on my way home after school. 

 {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(luck), I took my umbrella with me. When I passed a corner (拐角) near my house, I saw {#blank#}3{#/blank#} old man. He was carrying an umbrella and a basket of {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(apple). Suddenly I heard someone crying for help. I turned and saw the apples {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(fall) to the ground(地面), and the old man fell down. I helped {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(he) stand up right away, picked {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the apples and put them back into the basket. After that, I sent the old man to his house. When we arrived at his home, my  {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (foot) were both wet in the rain. He said, "Many thanks  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}you! You are such a {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(help) boy!" I was very happy because I helped someone in need.

A little stream(小溪) ran down from a high mountain through many villages and forests. Then it reached a desert(沙漠)."I went through so many {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(difficulty). I should have no problem {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(cross) the desert,"she thought. As she started, she found  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(her) slowly vanishing(消失)into the sand. After many tries, she still failed."Maybe I can't reach the ocean,"she said {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(sad) to herself.

At this time, a deep voice said, "{#blank#}5{#/blank#} the wind can cross the desert, a river can also do it."It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered,"That's because the wind can fly, but I can't.""That's because you can't give up {#blank#}6{#/blank#} you are. Let yourself evaporate(蒸发) into the wind and it can take you across me,"said the desert."Give up what I am now? No! No!"The little stream could not accept that."The wind can carry the vapor(水蒸气) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again,"said the desert."And whether you're a river or vapor, your nature never changes."{#blank#}7{#/blank#}hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the wind. It {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(carry) her to the next stage of her life.

The course of our lives is just like {#blank#}9{#/blank#} experience of the little stream. If you want to go through difficulties in your life {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (become) successful, you should also change the way you are.

Romeo had been in a good mood all morning. He'd had a dream that he was about to receive some good news. He was lighthearted and he walked through the streets of Mantua feeling that his feet weren't touching the ground.

His dream was that Juliet had found him dead. And although it was a strange dream that allowed a dead man to think and feel, she had brought him back to life with her kisses and made him as happy as a king. He smiled as he walked. It just showed how wonderful the real thing was if even dreams about love could make you feel so good. Wasn't that his man, Balthasar, coming down the street? It was. It must be good news from Verona.

"Balthasar," he said. "Have you got a letter from the Friar? How's my wife? And my father? Is he alright?" Romeo did a little jig, dancing round his servant. "How's my Juliet? I'm asking that because if she's well then everything is wonderful. "

Balthasar said nothing. He stared at the ground, avoiding Romeo's eyes. Romeo stopped his dancing. Balthasar was crying.

"She's well. So nothing can be wrong," said Balthasar. He turned his back on Romeo and blurted, "Her body's sleeping in Capulet's tomb（坟墓） and her soul's among the angels."

Romeo felt cold, even in that terrible heat. His expression doubted his servant's statement. "I watched them putting her in the tomb their family vault," said Balthasar, "and then came straight to you." He saw the pain in Romeo's face and wished he could think of some way of comforting him.

"It can't be!" said Romeo at last. He turned away. "The stars are against us. But I won't give into them!" He turned back to Balthasar. "Go and get me some paper and ink and hire us some horses."

"I beg of you, sir," said Balthasar, "be careful. You're sad and I'm worried that something bad is going to happen." "You're wrong," said Romeo. "Just do as I tell you. Haven't you got a letter from the Friar?"

"No."

"It doesn't matter. Go and get the horses. I'll see you later."

Once, a king showed two men a large basket in the garden. He told them to fill it with water from a well. After they their work, he left them, saying, "when the sun is d{#blank#}1{#/blank#}, I will come and see yow work."

At last one of them said, "What's the use of doing this foolish work? We can never f{#blank#}2{#/blank#} the basket."The other man answered," That is none of your business." The first man said. "You may do as you like, but I am not going to work at nothing so f{#blank#}3{#/blank#} ."He threw down his bucket and went away. The other man said no w{#blank#}4{#/blank#}, and kept on carrying water. At last the well was almost e{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. 

As he poured the last bucket of water into the basket, he saw a bright thing in it. He picked it up. It was a beautiful gold ring. Just then the king came. As soon as he saw the ring, he knew that he had found the kind of man he w{#blank#}6{#/blank#}. He told him to keep the ring for himself. "You have done so well in this little thing, " he said," that now I know I can b{#blank#}7{#/blank#} you with many things."

 What comes to your mind when you think of kung fu? Maybe the image of Shaolin monks(和尚) posing with a serious look {#blank#}1{#/blank#}their eyes. But does it really present the meaning of kung fu?

 Laurence, J. Brahm, a documentary filmmaker from the United States, explored this question in Searching for Kung Fu(《寻找功夫》). In the movie, Brahm {#blank#}2{#/blank#} ( travel) to cities in China and the US in search of the value of kung fu. 

 Brahm himself is a kung fu {#blank#}3{#/blank#} ( love) who has been practicing the art for more than 40 years. For him, it is more than a pastime. Ages ago, Brahm was unable {#blank#}4{#/blank#} ( use) one of his legs for two years and had to walk with a cane(拐杖). But by {#blank#}5{#/blank#} ( practise) martial arts(武术), he was able to recover step by step. Now, kung fu has become a {#blank#}6{#/blank#} ( day) activity for him and also the way he begins the day. 

 Still, there are other deep meanings in the practice. Nonviolence(非暴力) is one value, which{#blank#}7{#/blank#} ( show) both in the name and practice of kung fu. The Chinese character Wu 武 has two parts-"ge戈", meaning"to fight", and"zhi 止", meaning"to stop". So, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} meaning of kung fu in Chinese is the art of stopping fighting, the art of nonviolence. Kung fu artists always greet people with baoquan(抱拳). This lets each person know that there are no hidden weapons(武器) and shown trust. 

"The {#blank#}9{#/blank#} ( tradition) values of kung fu, actually, are in the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} ( mind) of all Chinese people, " Brahm told Xinhua. 

The music starts. A Sichuan Opera performer(表演者) dances to the music and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} changes face masks(变换脸谱). 

 The performer is Yin Qiuhua. Yin is 19 years old. She is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} from other performers. She was born with Down syndrome(唐氏综合征). 

 Zhao Haiying is Yin's mother. She wanted {#blank#}3{#/blank#} her daughter life skills(技能) and took Yin to learn different things. Zhao said, "She is young and I can't take care of her all the time. My biggest wish was to find a useful skill for her so she can make a living. " Yin {#blank#}4{#/blank#} many things like the violin and the folk dance. But she didn't do well {#blank#}5{#/blank#} any of them. 

 Things began to change in 2021, when Zhao met Lin Chun, a {#blank#}6{#/blank#} Chinese opera teacher. Lin Chun took Yin as a {#blank#}7{#/blank#} and taught her the face-changing art of Sichuan Opera. The face-changing skill is difficult to learn {#blank#}8{#/blank#} it was also difficult to talk with Yin. Lin had to show the moves over and over again. During the first year, Yin practiced for up to eight {#blank#}9{#/blank#} a day. After about 18 months of training, Yin gave {#blank#}10{#/blank#} first show at an activity in Nanchong. "The performance went very well. Yin is excellent, " Lin said. 

 Yin's story {#blank#}11{#/blank#} the hearts of many people. "We should not give up on our children. We should try our best to bring out what they are good at, " Zhao said.
