"How can I improve my English?" Alot of my students have been asking me about this same question again andagain.1 the answer won't be suitable for everyone, I'mstill going to tell you some of my experience. I hope that you will improveyour English learning skills.

    One thingI can tell you is that, once you start learning, you should try to think inEnglish as

   2as you can. If you seesomething when you're riding your bike or walking down the street, just3"How would I say them inEnglish?" At first, you may think with simple words but later with longersentences. Now I'm in America, and for4thetime, I would think in English and  speak it directly. It's amazing how much this helps.

    WhenI started learning, I was5 afraid of talking with others in Englishbecause I didn't want to make mistakes. Finally, I had a chance to6. And while traveling inAmerica, I'd try to hang out with American friends,7 I'd have no choice but to speak English. Also,I decided if I said anything stupid and other people would look8 me, then so be it. After that, my English startedto9 much more quickly.

    Besides,it may be a good idea to ask your American friends to look at the way you're writing,and give you some10 for improvement.

Every one of us has a chance to try new things. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} The risk is that we will not be satisfied with our choice. 

For example, we may try a food we have never had before. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} It can be too sour, too salty or too spicy. We may try a new style of music and get a headache. We may try a new sport like skating and end up falling down a lot. We may see a different kind of art and be completely disappointed（失望的）. We may try to speak or write a different language and end up embarrassing ourselves. 

It sounds risky（有风险的）to us. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} For example, we can try a new food. And we fall in love with it finally. It can be sweet or tastes very good. We may try a new sport and fall down but we get back up and finally experience pleasure, even for a minute. We may see why people love that sport so much. 

If we try a new kind of music, we may regret we didn't find it sooner. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} We can try to write speak a different language, and we may be a little embarrassed at first, but we know that the only way improve is to make mistakes and keep on trying. 

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} Then you will have chances to get rewards（回报）.

B. But it is not so bad to take risks.

C. And we don't like the food finally.

D. All in all, keep trying something new.

E. When we try something new, there's always the risk.

F. We can see a new kind of art and may be surprised at its beauty.

Long long ago, an old king wanted to see what his people were really like, so he 1 old clothes and went for a walk. After a moment, he got 2 . When he asked his people for food, they laughed and threw rocks at him. They didn't know who the 3 man was.

Then the king came to an old house. A poor old man and a poor old woman lived there. They asked the king to 4 with them. The old man made a 5 to make the king warm. And the old woman cooked porridge（粥）for the king.

When the king was eating, there was a knock at the door. The old woman 6 it and saw some people. "My great king, sorry," they said. "We threw rocks because we didn't know you."

"You gave me only bad 7 and rocks when I was hungry. Now get out!" he shouted 8 . The poor old man and the poor old woman were 9 . They thought the king would be angry with them because they only gave him porridge. However, the king said, "You gave me the best you have. You showed me great 10 . I will give money and food to you for the rest of your life."

Students sometimes fight (打架) at school. But how can you keep away from a fight? Here's something you can do. 

Be calm (冷静). Sometimes, you feel so angry that you really want to teach somebody a lesson. But being angry can't solve problems. A fight can't help, either. It may bring you more problems. In the school, everyone will be punished (惩罚), if he gets into a fight. There is no winner in a fight. 

Shout loudly. If you know someone is coming up behind you to attack, turn to the person with your hands up in front of your body and loudly say"stop" before walking away. Loud voice can usually make the attacker calm down. If the person doesn't stop, shout for help by calling your teachers. 

Learn to say no. Your friend may ask you to join in a fight, but helping him fight is not really helpful to him. If you really want to help him, try to ask him to stop. Also, you can tell him that if he has a fight, he may be punished. Then, try to know why he wants a fight and help him find a right way to solve the problem. 

If you follow my advice, you may keep away from a fight at school. 

Do you know students' life in the US? Do the students in the US have a little homework? Are their teachers very nice? Do they work hard at school? After I go to school in the US, I know the answers. Let me tell you the students' life in the US. 

Get up at 6:00 am and then go to school by bus at seven o'clock. Class starts at 8:00 am. The students in the US have many classes every day like math, geography, history, IT and so on. There is a little homework after school. But after doing that, you should do many other things. Students have a lot of after- school things, such as swimming, golf (高尔夫) and art. In China, many students do after- school things from Monday to Friday. But American students do them for two hours a day on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. 

Students in the US have more time to do their things, but they are hard workers, too. 

A student asked his teacher, "Sir, I have a question. How many friends should a man have, one or many?"

"It is very easy, " the teacher answered. "Get me that red apple from the highest(最高的) branch(树枝) of the tree. " The student looked up and said, "It's too high! I can't get it."

"Ask a friend to help. " the teacher said.

 The student called a friend and stood on his shoulders(肩膀) for the branch. "I still can't get it, Sir, " said the student sadly after the first try.

"Don't you have more friends? " the teacher smiled. The student asked more friends to come over. They stood on each other's shoulders, trying to make a pyramid(金字塔) to get higher. But the student still couldn't get the apple. Then one of the friends went home, brought a ladder(梯子) and the student finally got the apple.

 After getting the apple, the teacher asked, "So, do you know how many friends a man needs?"

"I do," the student said. "Many, so together we can work out any problem."

"Sounds good, " the teacher said. "You need as many friends as you can. Among( 在······之中) them, there will be at least(至少) one clever man. He can think of a good idea, like getting a ladder!"
