湖北省襄阳双沟镇中学2016届九年级上学期英语期中考试试卷

根据短文内容的理解,选择正确答案。

There are many expressions with heart. One of them is "lose your heart to someone". When that happens, you have fallen in love. But if the person who "won your heart" does not love you, then you are sure to have a "broken heart". In your sadness, you think that the person you loved is "hard-hearted", and in fact, has a "heart of stone".

You may decide to "pour out your heart" to a friend. Telling someone about your personal problems can often make you feel better.

If your friend does not seem to understand how painful your broken heart is, you may ask her to "have a heart". You are asking your friend to show some sympathy(同情) for your situation. Your friend "has her heart in the right place" if she says she is sorry for how you feel.

If your friend says, "My heart bleeds(流血)for you", she means the opposite. She is a cold—hearted person who does not really care about your situation.

When you are feeling afraid, "your heart is in your mouth". You might say, for example, that your heart was in your mouth when you asked a bank to lend you some money to pay for a new house.

If that bank says no to you, do not "lose heart". Be "strong-hearted". Sit down with the banker and have a "heart to heart" talk. Be open and honest about your situation. The bank may have a "change of heart" and agree to lend you the money. Then you could stop worrying and "put your heart at rest".

Newcastle is beginning to draw tourists from all corners of Europe. It's one of the fastest developing cities in the United Kingdom. It is said most visitors come here to see the famous soccer team play. The mood of the locals is often changed by the success or failures of the local team.
Newcastle's most popular place is the Gate. It's in the center of the city and has many attractions including bars, restaurants, sports bars, pubs and so on. During a home game it becomes a real home to happiness.
Culture and local history lovers can make their dreams come true by taking one of the local city tour buses. They come and leave every few minutes and stop at all the important historical sites in the city. Also the seats and the environment on the buses are comfortable. It's the best way to see the city without tiring yourself out or getting cold. Places such as the Hancock Museum and Millennium Bridge are must-see attractions. But be careful if you're short of time, Newcastle is a big place. So you should be prepared to kill a few hours on one of these buses.
If you want to watch the local team play soccer in the St. James Park, remember to book a ticket as early as possible. The locals are crazy soccer fans, and you'll find it hard to get a ticket if you don't wait in the queue early.
As you can see, Newcastle is a fantastic city with so much to be offered and so many things to see. You're sure to have a wonderful time here!

You probably know you should say “please” and “thank you” at restaurants. You probably know the rules of a library. You know you should respect(尊重) and be nice to your classmates. But do you have music manners?
Keep It Down! You have to notice the volume of your music. You should not play your music so loud that everyone around you can hear it. Some people might even get angry. Usually, when you play the music loud on an MP3 player, other people can't hear the words of the song. They just hear a loud sound. No one wants to listen to this. Very loud music can also be bad for your ears, so even if you are alone when listening to your MP3 player, you shouldn't have it turned up too high.
Take Them off! You need to know when to turn your MP3 player off and put it away. Libraries and schools don't allow MP3 players. There are other places, like museums, that don't have rules, but it would be rude to have your MP3 player on. Why would you listen to music at a play, a movie or a sporting event? You would miss what is going on and others would wonder why you even came.
Take One Out! Once in a while it's OK just to take out one earphone and not the other. Imagine you are listening on your MP3 player when someone asks you the way. It would not be rude to take out one earphone, tell him the way, and put back the earphone and continue listening. You can also do this when you order food at a fast-food restaurant or when you answer the telephone and it's not for you.
It's Your Choice! There are times when you need to decide what is best. For example, some people can listen to music on their MP3 players when reading books, while others think it is disturbing. In cases like this, you need to do what seems right for you.

When your school doesn't have a bus, and you live too far away to walk? How do you go to school?  “Let's carpool! ”most US middle school students will get that cool idea. Carpooling is a group of people sharing the responsibility(责任) of driving to school in the morning. There are usually four or five kids in a carpool and their parents take turns driving the kids in their cars. It might be the kids' first experience with real teamwork. Teamwork is really important in the carpool because nobody wants to make everyone else late. It's a great lesson in resposibility.
Carpooling is coming into fashion everywhere now. You can find lots of informations of carpooling on the internet. Carpooling is cool! Why?
It's good for the environment. In today's culture of everyone needing to try their best to protect our environment, carpooling is one of the best ways. By taking 3 cars off the road, the pollution can be cut a little. Take that over a town, a city, a state, a country and think about how much less pollution is going to be in the air over the course of even one year.
Gas(汽油) now is much more expensive than it used to and if you need to watch the cents(美分), then it's possible that carpooling could be the answer to your prayers. Even if you have to use your car once a week instead of two, that's one round trip of gas you're saving. So carpooling helps you save money.
Carpooling is a great way of getting to know people better. If you're carpooling grade school kids, then you'll find that slowly you'll get to know your child's peers(同龄人) and friends better. It's a great opportunity to meet people while saving the environment and your money.
