It may be difficult to start high school. Thinking about making new friends might make you feel nervous.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}You are going to school with a group of students of your age. Here are several suggestions for you to follow.

    Forget your fear and just talk to someone. It's easier said than done. But try to take a deep breath and find your voice. Don't be afraid to approach (接近) people.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Sit in the middle of the classroom with as many new friends around you as possible.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Take part in after-class activities that interest you. Try to make friends in the clubs. If you don't join anything, you will be just going to class and then going home. Being in a club makes you more social.

    Stay clean. No one likes a bad smell that could knock someone over. Shower every day, brush your teeth and wash your hair.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Be respectful (尊重的) of people's differences.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}And everyone believes in different things. It is a good thing to have different friends with different opinions because you can each share your own.

 Cindy is a middle school student. She likes shopping very much.

 It is New Year's Day today. Many stores are at a great sale. So Cindy's mother and Cindy go shopping after lunch.

 They are in a store now. Cindy sees a note that says"BOGOF!". She asks a saleswoman what that is. The saleswoman says to her," It is‘ buy one, get one free(免费)'."

 That sounds good! Cindy finds a shirt for 30 yuan. Cindy's mother wants to buy a skirt . It is 30 yuan, too. So Cindy buys a yellow shirt and her mother buys a white skirt.

 Cindy and her mother are very happy.

My daughter and I were driving from Los Angeles to Dallas.We were running low on gas（汽油）somewhere in New Mexico and hoped to meet a gas station soon.

But that didn't happen and we realized we were not going to make it to the next town.So my daughter made up a sign that said， "Low on gas.Can you help me？" and held it outside her window，hoping a driver in the next lane（车道）would notice it and stop.

There weren't too many cars passing by us at that time.It was a desolate stretch of the road and about3：30 p.m.on a weekday.A truck was driving along in the neighboring lane ahead of us.We caught up with it in the hope that the driver would notice the sign.An elderly gentleman was driving it and after an expression of confusion（困惑） on his face，he seemed to have noticed the sign and slowed down to pull over.We pulled over right behind him.

He was friendly and was willing to help us.At first he thought we didn't have enough money to buy gas，so he offered to buy us gas at the next town Roswell that was about 10 miles' away!

When we explained our trouble，he said he was a factory worker and was returning home from work.His factory was about 10 minutes away and they had gas there，so if we could give him 20 minutes，get a can of gas and fill up our car for us.We could not believe our good luck!

We were filled with thanks for the kindness of strangers such as this person when we waited for him to return.Sure enough，he was back with the can.He refused to take payment for the gas.Tears came down，as did our warm thanks.

It is Saturday, but I go to school as usual. I go to play football. I am in our school team and we are going to play against another school next week. 

The practice starts at 10 a. m. We all arrive as early as we can so that we have time to warm up. We are training harder than usual because the other team beat (打败) us last year. This year we want to do better. 

It is more difficult to practise in winter because the days are short and the weather is cold, too. It gets dark earlier, so it is important not to be late for after- school practice. 

Our coach (教练) is happy because we are playing better as a team now. Last year we were sometimes careless when we passed the ball and we lost (输) to the other team in the final match. What a pity! This year we are training more carefully. That means we have a better chance of winning, 

The fan club has fewer people this year. We hope to play well so that we have more fans to watch the matches. It is good to have our fans around. They cheer us on loudly and we feel more confident to win the game.
