Each year {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(thousand) of tourists visit the polar regions of the Arctic and Antarctica. But the increasing number of people traveling to the ends of the Earth can have {#blank#}2{#/blank#}negative effect on fragile ecosystems. Should tourists {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(allow) to visit polar regions?

    About 40,000 tourists visit Antarctica each year. More than five million travel to the Arctic and sub-Arctic. Transporting tourists to the regions {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(increase) ship and airplane traffic, adding to the risk of pollution, oil spills, and other {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(environment) damage. Because the places where wildlife is accessible {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(be) few in number, tourist traffic can become concentrated in specific areas, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (put)Arctic vegetation at risk.

    Others say that access {#blank#}8{#/blank#}these very special parts of the world should not be restricted to only researchers and scientists. Polar tourism allows people to develop deep  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（person） connections with polar regions. “Those {#blank#}10{#/blank#}travel to the Arctic or Antarctica often become cheerleaders for supporting those places.” Jim Sano, vice president for travel and conservation at World Wildlife Fund, told TFK.

    The word Nushu literally means “women's writing” in Chinese: As the name suggests, Nushu is created and specially used by women.

    Often {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（call） “the world's only surviving characters for women”, these slim words were developed from standard written Chinese. In the old days, Nushu {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（teach）by elderly women to girls at home because female children weren't allowed {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（attend）formal school. During gatherings in villages, women used the characters to .write poems or song lyrics to express their emotions {#blank#}4{#/blank#} were hidden from men. The words were full {#blank#}5{#/blank#} encouragement and positive energy, and showed an uncommon open-mindedness among women at that time.

    Ji Xianlin once said that Nushu is a feminist（女权主义者）symbol. “It's {#blank#}6{#/blank#} unique writing system created by {#blank#}7{#/blank#}（talent）women who were deprived（剥夺）of the right to education,” he wrote in an article. “It has significance in various {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（field）and represents Chinese people's strong spirit.”

    Nushu was made as a national cultural heritage in 2006. However, it is not {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（wide）used in daily life today. In fact, it is a dying language. Now linguists are taking action to prevent this incredible cultural heritage from{#blank#}10{#/blank#}（disappear）.

    On Aug 13，four Chinese irrigation sites won global {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (recognize)and were added to the 2018 list of Heritage Irrigation Structures， among {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Dujiangyan is the oldest and only surviving damless irrigation system in the world.

    Built over 2，000 years ago in {#blank#}3{#/blank#} is now Sichuan Province in Southwest China， this amazing engineering achievement is still playing a crucial role in irrigating farms and providing water resources for more than 50 cities in the province.

    In ancient times，the region in which Dujiangyan now stands {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (threaten)by frequent flooding from the Minjiang River. Li Bing，a local official of Sichuan Province at that time，together with his son，decided to construct an irrigation system on the Minjiang River {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (prevent)flooding. After many studies，they found the {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (simple)solution was to build a dam，but this would have ruined the Minjiang River. So instead Li designed a series of {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (channel)built at different levels along Mount Yulei that would take away the floodwater while leaving the river flowing {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (natural).Better still， the extra water could be directed to the dry Chengdu Plain，{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (make)it suitable for farming.

    Ever since the great Dujiangyan Irrigation System was completed， the Chengdu Plain has been free {#blank#}10{#/blank#} flooding and the people there have been living peacefully.
