Do you often communicate with your parents? Some parents are always comparing their {#blank#}1{#/blank#}with themselves or other people when they were young.

    "When I was your age," a father said to his sixteen­ year­ old son one day, "I was at the top of my class every year. And I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} what I wanted to do when I left school. I had goals(目标). You are always at the bottom(最后)of your class {#blank#}3{#/blank#} you have no goals." The man's son said nothing. He had already heard this from his father many times. "And when your mother was your age," the young man's father went {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, "she had a good job and she {#blank#}5{#/blank#} lots of money. You don't even have a part­ time job. You earn nothing. "The man's son still said nothing. He had heard this before, too. "And when your {#blank#}6{#/blank#} brother was your age," the young man's father said, "he studied hard. But you just waste your time." And the man's son still said nothing.

    Finally, the young man's father said, "And when Abraham Lincoln was your age，he worked all day and studied at night." This time the son {#blank#}7{#/blank#} stay silent.

    "And when Abraham Lincoln was your age, father," he said, "He was the President of {#blank#}8{#/blank#} United States.{#blank#}9{#/blank#} are you?" His father had no answer {#blank#}10{#/blank#} this.

    Are your parents always comparing you with others? And what's your reply? Do you have a better way to communicate with each other?

    John was a kind mall. When he was young, he hoped{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(become)a singer. But he didn't have enough money{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(buy)books about music. And his parents didn't expect him{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (be)a singer. So his dream didn't come{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. At the age of fifteen, he{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (leave)his village and found a job in a small town. He worked there for five years. Later his mother became very ill and he had to{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (stop)his work to come back and look{#blank#}7{#/blank#}her. Three years later his mother died and he wanted to leave his village again and{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (work)in other places. However，John couldn't. His father was ill. John decided{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(stay)at home and look after him. Every day he{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(do)many things for his father. Day by day，John became old. But he still didn't forget his dream to be a singer. Now he has lots of time so he plans to learn to sing at a music school.

    It is not always easy to discover yourself. From a young age, I had a strong sense of who I would become. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, an accident changed everything.

    To me, skating was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (important) than anything else in the world. Nothing else filled my heart with so much joy. I spent 24 hours a week  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(develop) my skills. I had no social life or interests except skating. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} I was rewarded (回报) with first place medals in nearly all competitions.

   {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (unlucky), during one competition, I fell and was badly injured. The doctor told me that I couldn't skate anymore. The pain in my back was hard to bear and even basic daily tasks became difficult.

    My passion had been taken away. I {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (lose) heart and had no idea who I would become. After eight months of suffering, something had to change. Instead {#blank#}7{#/blank#} sitting around and wasting my days, I began to work with local community service projects. By volunteering {#blank#}8{#/blank#} a swimming teacher and summer reading assistant for kids, I got {#blank#}9{#/blank#} idea of who I wanted to become. Little by little, I stepped out of the shadow and rebuilt my confidence.

    Sometimes, challenges in life will get in our way. We can choose to stay behind or try to get past these challenges. My accident was a challenge that failed to stop {#blank#}10{#/blank#} from reaching success. Now I'm a very confident person.
