I have struggled with feelings of unworthiness since forever. My most painful moments were at parties. My friends made fun of me because I was rhythmically (有节奏地)1 and I couldn't get my2 body to imitate the latest dance moves. I was never chosen to dance. I felt like I didn't3 . 

Around age 12, I decided that the way to4 these feelings of unworthiness was perfection. If I was just perfect then I would fit in. But this strategy didn't5 .My self-esteem (自尊心) was high when I got good grades and felt6 , but crashed when I didn't do well7 , or was left out. 

After several years of spiritual growth, it8 me that for many of us, self-worth is tied to our9 . We experience low self-worth10 we fail or lose approval. So I have begun to cultivate an unconditional self-worth. It's not about doing things perfectly.11 , "Unconditional self-worth" is the12 that you deserve to be alive, to be loved and cared for. 

The13 to unconditional self-worth is not always easy. It takes courage to free yourself from the 14 you've placed on your worth. But this journey is beautiful and worth taking. So I challenge you to embrace yourselves and find your metaphorical (隐喻的) 15 floor and move freely.

A lot of people admired our neighbor. One day a delivery truck unloaded a large 1 system at their house. And the kids discussed the new sound equipment my neighbor had just bought. Meantime, we were living in a house decorated 2 and dressing our kids in second-hand clothes. We lived a 3 life. 

My poor mother-in-law, in town for a visit, got to hear my complaints that night. "I feel so 4 sometimes," I told her, as we 5 the table after dinner. "I know we're doing the right thing, living frugally (节俭的), saving money, but it feels so hard. There're so many things I'd like to 6 , so many things I'd like to do, but we just can't."

She 7 as she folded a cloth napkin in silence. Then she turned to me and said, "When you make a comparison between yourself and others, it's easy to 8 what you don't have. But there's one thing you two do that many other couples may 9 to do. You two often go out together and take time to focus on your 10 . And that's a very important thing."

I stopped wiping the table and 11 for a minute. I thought of the movie my husband and I had seen a week earlier. I 12 the bike rides, the hikes and the picnics. Most of all, I remembered how 13 we were together, even after twenty years. How many people can say that? 

I looked around my home in a new 14 . Our refrigerator was too small for a family of six, but it was 15 filled with delicious food. Our kitchen was small and we had no big TV, but we're happy! And that's enough! 

That morning in September, at a five-kilometer race, I waited for my 11-year-old son at the finish line. He'd run 30:34 at another 5k in late spring, so I 1 he could run a 5k in about 30 minutes. When I didn't see him at the 35-minute mark, I began to 2 .

It'd already been an 3 morning. About an hour earlier, when we drove into town, my son noticed a lovely tiny green tree cricket （树蟋） in my car. It jumped onto my son's hand where it stayed so long that we eventually gave it a name: Little Friend.

Minutes before the race, it jumped onto the sidewalk. Maybe it wanted to seek freedom, but this wasn't a safe place due to the 4 pedestrian traffic. So my son knelt and 5 his hand. Little Friend came back. But I told him he would 6 it during the race.

I ran well and felt thrilled at the finish line. However, that 7 gave way to anxiety when my son didn't show up. I 8 asking people if they'd seen him. No one had. So I returned to the race headquarters. In my confusion, I didn't even see him 9 the finish line. But there he was, just ahead of the 45-minute mark, with Little Friend 10 on his right thumb.

My 11 were wrong. My son didn't run fast, and he didn't lose Little Friend. These two 12 seemed somehow related. He 13 a cold he was getting over, but I knew it was more than that.

Sometimes life gives you something beautiful, but fragile （易碎的）. There's no need to 14 ahead. Treat it 15 and hold on when you can.
