When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be very difficult to let go of your anger. But forgiveness is possible — and it can be surprisingly{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (benefit) to your physical and mental health. So far, research {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (show) that people who forgive can have more energy, better appetite and better sleep. “People who forgive show {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (little) anger and more hopefulness,” says Dr. Frederic Luskin, who wrote the book Forgive for Good. “So it can help reduce the tiredness out of the immune system and allow people {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (feel) more energetic.”

    So when someone has hurt you, cool down first. Take a couple of breaths and think of something {#blank#}5{#/blank#} gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love. Don't wait for an {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (apologize). “Many times the person who hurt you may never think of apologizing,” says Dr. Luskin. “They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things in {#blank#}7{#/blank#} same way. So if you wait for people to say sorry, you could be waiting a very long time.”

    Next keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (accept) the action of the person who upsets you. {#blank#}9{#/blank#}, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you. Finally, try to see things from the other person's perspective. You may realize that he or she was acting out of ignorance. To gain perspective, you may want to write a letter to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (you) from that person's point of view.

Unlike some other European languages, English is a little tricky when it comes to writing. How a word{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (pronounce) and how it is actually spelt can be very different things. Take two simple{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(verb) like"have"and "save" shouldn't they be pronounced the same? Why do "sir", "her" and "fur" all rhyme, but "fork"and "work" don't?

Imagine, then, a situation{#blank#}3{#/blank#}two words are spelt and pronounced exactly the same way, but have{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(complete) different meanings. Welcome to the world of homonyms(同形同音异义词){#blank#}5{#/blank#} ( take), for example, the word "fair"- it can be a kind of festival or an adjective to describe the colour of your hair.

So how do you know which{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(mean) someone is referring to?— You don't, except by the context. Obviously, if someone asks you to "give them a hand", they don't want you to remove{#blank#}7{#/blank#}is at the end of your arm.

    Sometimes even the context doesn't help much- the result can be {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (amuse). These sentences play with the double meaning of a noun :I used to be a banker, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}I lost interest.

A small boy swallowed some coins and had to go to hospital when his grandmother phoned{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (ask) how he was, the nurse said, "No change yet."

"Waiter, will the bread be long?" "No, sir. It's round."

    On arriving in the United States, I felt everything was different. There were many new things I had to adapt to. One thing that really {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (take) me a long time to adapt to was speaking the language.

    I remember {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (clear) that I had to struggle to learn English because I couldn't even write a short paragraph to introduce myself at the first day of my English class.

    The teacher asked me {#blank#}3{#/blank#} it was difficult for me. If it was, I could change to level one! However, I was stubborn and swore that I was going to succeed.

Meet Alexa, Your Digital Roommate

    Who is Alexa? She is a digital assistant that is part of the voice-activated Echo Dot "smart speaker" produced by Amazon. This year Saint Louis University in Missouri has placed one of the speakers in every dorm room {#blank#}1{#/blank#} its campus. Students can ask the virtual assistant anything from "When are the football teams playing?" to "What's the square root of 1440?"

    SLU student Brendan McGuire said: "Instead of searching on the Internet while I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (tap) away at my computer, I can just ask Alexa: Hey Alexa, ask SLU what's the molecular(分子的)weight of water? And I can have the answer without {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(interrupt) my process." That's exactly {#blank#}4{#/blank#} school officials had in mind when they decided to provide the smart speakers free of charge for students.

    "The students we attract {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (drive) to achieve success in and out of the classroom," David Hakanson, SLU's vice president, said.     Saint Louis University is the first in the U.S. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (include) an Echo Dot smart speaker in every campus living space. Other colleges have also found ways to offer the technology to students.     At Arizona State University, engineering students living in the brand-new residence hall have the option of adding an Amazon Echo Dot to their rooms.     The main raw material for sugar sculpture blowing is malt sugar (麦芽糖).The malt sugar {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (use) in sculpture blowing has to be heated to high temperatures. It can only be used after several steps, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} include the sorting and cooking of the malt sugar followed by the firing and melting of it.
