The pickle (泡菜) jar as far back as I can remember sat on the floor beside the dresser (梳妆台) in my parents' bedroom. When he got ready for bed, Dad would empty his pockets and toss (投掷) his coins into the jar. It seemed that he was accustomed{#blank#}1{#/blank#}doing such a thing When the jar was filled, I used to {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(go) with him and he would take the coins to the bank. "These are for my son's college fund. He'll never work at the mill (磨坊) all his life like me. If he {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (work) like me in the future, he might not have a bright future.     Chinese oracle bone inscriptions (甲骨文) over 3,000 years old are now being widely used as emojis by young WeChat users, thanks to a person who made them{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(close) to people's life than before.

     “The ancient characters are not as cool and distant {#blank#}2{#/blank#}they are supposed to be,” said the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (create) Chen Nan. “In fact, they are cute and humorous, and they could totally serve our needs for online expression.”{#blank#}4{#/blank#}46-year-old professor of fine art at Tsinghua University has been working to make oracle bone inscriptions into emojis. For example, the character for “zui,”{#blank#}5{#/blank#} means “drunk” in English, was created {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(look) like a stumbling figure.

    Chen has also combined the ancient Chinese characters with cartoon figures. A cartoon video clip {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(feature) oracle bone inscriptions designed by him was viewed 31 million times and shared 140,000 times.

    Chen worked on the road of innovation 19 years ago. In 2016, the ancient typeface{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(include) into the font library under his efforts to let the ancient words walk into people's life. Now the library has as many as 3,500 characters,{#blank#}9{#/blank#}Chen's research on the project still continues, as he plans to extend the library to 7,000 characters. In the future, he will apply the ancient characters  {#blank#}10{#/blank#}education and development of games and apps.

    Chengdu has dozens of new millionaires, Asia's biggest building, and fancy new hotels. But for tourists like me，pandas are its top {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(attract)．

    So it was a great honour to be invited backstage at the not－for－profit Panda Base, where ticket money helps pay for research. But you're not in China — you're in Manchester in Britain. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} fact, you might see similar things in many other cities. Chinese products have been going global.

    Western countries {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (enjoy) Chinese food for a long time. Chinese restaurants have made some changes to the dishes {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (meet) local people's tastes.

    Some Chinese{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (brand) are also becoming more popular. In many cities in Europe, stores sell TCL televisions, Haier fridges {#blank#}6{#/blank#} Lenovo computers, reported Reuters. They're not simply made in China, but {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (design) in the country.

    In the past, most Western people thought Chinese products were cheap but not {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (rely). Things have changed greatly, though. For example, Huawei. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} is one of China's major smartphone makers, overtook Apple in worldwide smartphone sales for the first time in June and July, behind only Samsung.     Chinese foods, with a long history, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(be) known for their special taste and delicacy(精细). Here are several traditional Chinese foods.

    Noodles are a symbol of long life in Chinese culture. They are as much a part as {#blank#}2{#/blank#} birthday cake with its candles {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(light) in western countries. Since noodles mean long life, it is considered very {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (lucky) to cut it off.

    In China, a whole fish {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (symbol) richness. At a party, it is a tradition to serve the whole fish. Fish also has a special meaning because the Chinese word for fish, yu, which sounds like the word for richness. So {#blank#}6{#/blank#} is believed that eating fish will help your wishes come true in the year to come.

    Another popular dish is zongzi, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} is served during the Dragon Boat Festival.
