The Internet has changed the world, people are able to get and share information in seconds. Nowadays, people begin to wonder: Is the Internet good or bad? "It's impossible to answer that question because the Internet means so many things," says psychologist （心理学家） Patricia Greenfield.

Some are truly wonderful. In many ways it makes life easier and simpler. It helps us get things done more quickly. It opens up the world to us. And if a friend lives far away, the Internet makes it easy to stay in touch.

However, the issue （话题）    isn't black and white. Some can become real problems if we don't take care. Spending too much time online is bad to people's health. It may even cause them to be less social with family and friends. Aside from that, some people attack the web or use the Internet to steal others' personal information, even banking information. Most of the young students think the Internet is simply an icon （图标） on the screen（屏幕）. Kids won't realize that the Internet is a network of millions of computers until about 10 years old.

The Internet can be a useful tool, but don't let it take up all of your time. Use the Internet properly and carefully and it can make your life more colourful.

Emmitt followed his father to row eleven, seats thirteen and fourteen. He was so busy taking in the sights at the baseball stadium that he wasn't watching where he was going. He bumped right into his father's back. "Sorry, Dad."

His father laughed. "No problem. Which seat do you want?"

Emmitt looked at the number thirteen on the back of the seat. Thirteen was supposedly an unlucky number, and he was going to need some luck if he was going to catch a foul ball(界外球). "I'll take fourteen."

As the players took the field, Emmitt took pictures for his scrapbook. He cheered, did the wave, and even got a foam finger(泡沫手指). The game was great. But it was missing one thing. A foul ball. Emmitt wanted nothing more than to catch a foul ball.

Every time a batter popped a ball into the air, Emmitt sprang to his feet. And each time, he'd groan and sit back down. He'd seen foal balls go over his head and fall short of his row. He saqueezed his foam finger when the next batter came to the plate. It was his favorite player—Harry "the Hammer" Watson. Emmitt stood up and cheered for him. He heard the crack of the bat and watched the ball sail into the air… right toward Emmitt! He couldn't believe it. He was going to catch a foul ball hit by Harry Watson.

"Daddy!" the little girl sitting next to Emmitt cried. "The ball! The ball! Catch it!"

Emmitt saw the huge smile on the girl's face. She wanted the ball.

He turned his back to the ball just as it reached his seat. Emmitt leaned toward his dad and the ball dropped into the hands of the little girl's father.

"Why did you do that?" Emmitt's father asked. "Do you realize who hit that ball?"

"Yeah, but look," Emmitt nodded to the little girl. She was hugging the ball.

"My first game and I got a foul ball," she said.

"I'm proud of you, Emmitt," his dad said, ruffling his hair. "That was a really nice thing to do."

Emmitt smiled as he watched the little girl. He didn't get his foul ball, but he felt as good as if he had.

Many people think of cities and nature as two different things. However, some cities around the world are trying new and creative ways to bring nature and wildlife into city areas. 

In order to make better use of city gardens, places like Los Angeles in the US make community gardens. The gardens serve the community in many ways. In city farms, people grow vegetables to sell at markets with the money going to people in need. In the educational gardens, people are taught how to eat healthily. 

In Edmonton, Canada, more than twelve wildlife bridges have been built. One of the largest is a 30-meter-long bridge near Big Lake in the northwest of the city. It's a good way to protect animals' habitats（栖息地）. 

A "sponge city"（海绵城市）is a city to deal with floods. How does it work? Just as a sponge can absorb（吸收）water, a sponge city can deal with heavy rain. Wuhan is one of China's first cities to start the project. By the end of 2020, 20% area of the city has been covered by sponges. In 2030, the number will rise to 80%. There are now more than 30 "sponge cities" in China, including Jinan and Xiamen.

The last Eurasian lynx (猞猁) in the British Isles lived a life of danger as it moved quickly to avoid campfires and vicious dogs, and hid in holes. Because of disappearing woodlands, being short of animals for food, and hunting, lynx started to disappear from these islands about 1, 500 years ago. But experts hope to one day bring the Eurasian lynx back to Scotland. 

Wildlife conservationists (环保主义者) in Switzerland, Germany, France, and other countries have taken Eurasian lynx from elsewhere in their areas and introduced them again to protected forests, allowing their populations to grow. Now they' re hoping to do the same thing in Scotland. Returning the cats would do more than just improve the numbers of this once- endangered animal. A win for the lynx is a win for the forest- and the planet. 

When the Eurasian lynx disappeared, so did the Scottish landscape. Without these cats and other animals hunting them, deer populations increased a lot. Those animals lived on the leaves of trees and bushes for food, and soon large areas of the Scottish forest disappeared since it couldn't grow fast enough to keep up with the deer's wish for food. Birds and rodents (啮齿动物) that depended on shelter (庇护所) in the lower level of forest plants became food for foxes, which lynx also hunt. 

Experts trying to restore the forests have to put up fences to keep deer from eating leaves of young trees. But with lynx hanging out in the woods, experts think these cats would keep the deer from harming the young trees, helping the forests make a comeback. 

And that would have even bigger influences. The Earth is losing woodlands as people cut down trees to make room for farming, and to sell the wood for products like furniture and toilet paper. In 2020 alone, the Earth lost as many trees as would cover an area larger than Michigan. 

So restoring forests in places like Scotland can help provide more space for wildlife and even fight climate change. That's because trees take in carbon dioxide, which takes in the sun's heat and warms our planet. 

 It's easy to know if the plate I'm washing is my grandfather's — it will have no food left. My younger brother is the opposite — there's always food left over. The feel of warm water and the dish soap on dinner plates always comfort me a lot at the end of a busy day.

 About a year ago, our family dishwasher broke. My dad had just left for a work trip, so I offered to do the dishes by hand to help my busy mum.

 At first, doing the dishes greatly annoyed me. I was in a rush to get them done because there was endless work waiting for me to do. However, slowly, the task of washing off food leftovers soon led to a transformation in me. So even when we did finally buy a new dishwasher, I still kept washing the dishes by hand after dinner.

I always start with the dinner plates. I have learned to turn them over and wash the bottom. Then I move to any bowls that have been used. After the bowls, I turn to the dishes used to cook.

 Standing in the same place every day, washing the dishes by hand has been more calming and meaningful than I could have ever imagined. For about 15 minutes every day, I can slow down and forget everything in the world as my mind, eyes and hands focus on(专注于) a simple task that would always result in success. Now I'm able to get myself out of all my worries and put myself more wholeheartedly into enjoying the simple task.

I started a new hobby this year. My hobby is collecting insects(昆虫). I like insects. They are interesting, and they can be very beautiful. 

I find insects in many different places, such as the yard (院子) around my house or the park near my school. When I see a new insect, I put it in a glass bottle. I look at it very carefully. If it's small. I use a magnifying glass（放大镜）. Then I try to find out what kind of insect it is. I have a lot of books about insects to help me. After that, I draw a picture of it in my notebook. I also write its name，the date and where I found it. Finally, I take it back to the same place and let it go. I don't keep it. Some day, I want to be an entomologist. That's a person who studies insects. Then my hobby will be my job!
