Q：What's the most beautiful place you've ever been to?

A：It's difficult to choose"the most beautiful"place I've visited,because every place is beautiful in its own way．But I have very good memories(回忆)of the Himalayan mountains in Nepal．

A：I stayed in a beautiful hotel in Marrakech．Morocco．It wasn't very big，but it had a green yard with a fountain(喷泉)in the middle．The colourful tiles(瓷砖)everywhere were fantastic．

A：Fried erickets(油炸蟋蟀l on the street in

  Bangkok．Thailand．And they weren 7 t bad．

A：I have always been very lucky in my travels．but someone stole(偷)my bag on a train when I was in India．Getting very ill in a lonely part of Pakistan wasn't very nice either．

A：Indonesia．a country with a very interesting culture．I plan to go there next year．

A：Australia has so many interesting places to visit，as it's so large．But my favourites are the sights along the Great Barrier Reef,North Queensland．I also love the big,open spaces of our national parks，especially Uluru National Park．

On the final day of the summer camp, Ada and Lydia stood below the camp's highest, hardest rope (绳子) course. Lydia raised her hand and 1 to go first. Hands before feet, Lydia began her climb 2 the rope ladder.

"Go, Lydia, go! You're the best." Ada 3 from below. When Lydia made it all the way across, Ada smiled in relief for her friend but also felt 4 : it was her turn now.

Ada reached out her arms to the first wood rung on the rope ladder. Her arms felt shaky (颤抖的) as she felt the ladder swing a little because of her 5 . She walked her hands 6 forward to the next rung. About halfway across the ladder, Ada was starting to feel a little more confident. She could do this!

Ada 7 for the next rung, just as a strong wind made the rope ladder swing. Ada's hand did not hold the wood rung.8 , her hand hit only air and continued downward, followed by her arm, her shoulder and the rest of her body!

Almost immediately, the harness (保护带) caught her. Ada could see all the other kids staring up at 9 . As she was lowered to the ground slowly, Ada's face burned from 10 .

"Can I try again?" Ada said, holding back tears.

The coach looked at the watch. "I'm sorry, Ada. We don't have time."

On the bus home, Ada rested her head 11 the window. Beside her, Lydia sat silently and thoughtfully. "Hey, Ada?" Lydia said. "I couldn't have made it without you. I got so scared at first, 12 you encouraged me and I kept going."

"You got scared?" Ada asked.

Lydia 13 , her eyes widening. "Super scared. I'm surprised I didn't give up." Ada smiled a little. "You were just unlucky that the 14 came up," continued Lydia.

Right that moment, she knew her friend was trying to cheer her up. Suddenly falling off the ladder did not seem so 15 anymore. Anyway, she tried hard.

Feeling quite hopeless, Jack walked down the streets, knowing he came to the end of life. In his fifties, Jack had never been married, experienced the happiness of having children or spent holidays with his family. On this sad rainy night, he felt that there was 1 in the whole world cared whether he lived or died.

At that time I was sitting in my room watching the rain 2 my window. When I heard the doorbell ring, I jumped from my chair and ran out. But my mother was already at the 3 . Opening it, she saw a very dirty-looking man with tears falling down his face. My mother, always 4 and warm-hearted, invited the man inside, and he sat with my parents in our living room.

As I wanted to know what the man looked like, I walked downstairs secretly. The man, holding his head in his hands and crying, made my heart ache. I ran back upstairs and took 5 my only half-dollar coin. Then I walked right into the living room. The three persons looked at me 6 as I quickly made my way over the stranger. I put the half-dollar coin in his hand and gave him a 7 . Running back upstairs, I felt excited but happy.

Downstairs, Jack sat quietly with tears falling down his face as he tightly held that coin. Finally 8 my parents, he said, "I thought nobody cared. For the last twenty years, I have been so 9 . That is the first hug I have ever got. It's hard to believe that somebody 10 ."

Jack's life changed that night. When he left our house, he didn't want to die but to 11 . We never saw Jack again, 12 we received letters from him from time to time, letting us know that he was doing fine.

My life changed that night too, as I 13 the power of giving a hug, although it's only a gift of fifty cents. 14 Jack left, my parents asked him why he had knocked on our door. Jack said that when he'd walked along the streets that rainy night, 15 and ready to die, he had noticed a sticker on the car. It read: SOMEBODY LOVES YOU.

Ye Lianping is a 96- year- old re tired teacher from a village in Anhui Province. He has been teaching left- behind children there for free during the past 24 years. 

Teaching has always been an important part of Ye's life. After he retired, he began offering free English- language classes to left- behind children. He first set up a classroom in his own house. Later, with the help of the government, he got another two classrooms. To provide education for more children, he also set up the Ye Lianping Scholarship Fund with almost all his money and the donations（捐赠物） from others. So far, it has helped hundreds of left- behind children. 

Ye is quite generous（慷慨的） to these children, but he spends very little money on himself. He lives a very simple life. He lives with his wife in a house built over 30 years ago. He never buys any drinks. And he has been wearing the same jacket for over 40 years. 

Although he is getting older, Ye is never tired of teaching. In 2018, he got hurt while riding a bicycle to buy vegetables. Instead of resting in bed for recovery, he quickly returned to class with a walking stick. 

Ye is racing against time to spend as much time as possible on left- behind children's education. People call him "the candlelight of the village". But he said, "I'm just a firefly（萤火虫）, muking little light, not as much light as a candlelight can give. "

Every kid in my neighbourhood knew about the Christmas Witch (女巫). She was an old woman who left her Christmas decorations(装饰) up all year long: a twinkling tree in the living room, a plastic wreath on the front door, and…

I was told the decorations were meant to get kids closer to the house so the Christmas Witch could take them, and I promised myself I would never go near that place. But when I turned fourteen, I got a newspaper road map and found I'd have to deliver(投递) papers to the Christmas Witch. 

My first day of delivery was a dark, cold March morning. The sky was just turning pink as I got close to the last house on my road map— that of the Christmas Witch. I walked up the stairs quietly and placed the newspaper by the door. Then I quickly turned around. Just then I fell down the stairs. I hurt my ankle(踝关节), unable to walk. 

The light was on. The door opened. Someone came out. It was the Christmas Witch. 

"Dear me, " said she. "Are you all right?" Speechless, I pointed at my ankle. "Come in; make sure you're okay, " she smiled, not a wicked- witch smile, but a nice smile. I had no choice. Holding her hand, I got into her house and was placed in a chair. "Relax. " She hurried into the kitchen and returned a moment later, handing me a cup of hot tea. "I call your parents, " she said. 

I told her my mother's number. She got through, told my mother everything and turned, "Your mother will be here shortly. ""Thank you, Mrs Wright. ""You're welcome. " She sat down across from me, smiling. "You don't have to call me Mrs Wright; you can call me Christmas Witch. "

I was a bit embarrassed (尴尬的). "It's alright. I hear what people say, " she smiled. "You do have lots of decorations, "I said. "I think it's pretty, " she replied. "But people think it's… strange, "I said. "They don't understand why I leave up my decorations, " answered she. 

Like most teenagers, I just asked the next question, "Why?"

"It was because of my son, Anthony, " said Mrs Wright. "Anthony planned to come home before Christmas. He called me on New Year's Eve, telling me to leave up the Christmas decorations. But three days later, Anthony died because there was something wrong with the plane. My boy never made it back home. Even though I know it doesn't change anything, I won't take down those decorations, even after all these years. " Mrs Wright wasn't a witch. She was a sad, lonely mother fighting with a terrible sadness. 

The doorbell rang and my mother arrived. Held by my mother, I went home. My hurt ankle healed (康 复 ) quickly. Since then, whenever I delivered newspapers to Mrs Wright, she smiled, saying how much she enjoyed my visit. I didn't think of her as the Christmas Witch any more. 

For Bird Week at school, I spent several days studying pigeons. They gave me a lot of{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(意想不到的事). On the first day, I got my task—I had to write about pigeons! So on the second day, I started to watch pigeons in the park. They just {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(闲逛) around for the whole morning! At last, they left {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(粪) everywhere. Through a day of observation(观察), I thought pigeons were {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(无聊的) and dirty! By the way, I noticed that some pigeons flew {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(发狂地) to a girl when she fed them. How {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(可怕的) they were!

On the third day, I did some {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(研究) at home on my computer. I found that pigeons could even {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(认出) themselves in {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(镜子). How {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(令人惊奇的)! I couldn't wait to know more about them!
