江苏省镇江2015-2016学年七年级下册期末英语考试试卷
Every year, there is a big day for book lovers. It is World Book Day on April 23. Why not read a new book? Reading is a good habit to have in life. It shows you a different world and makes you think differently. Here are some good books Time for Kids picked out. Let's take a look!
This Side of Wild (2015)
Gary Paulsen, US
If you are interested in nature (自然) and animals, this book is for you! This book tells true stories of the writer and some animals he loved. For example, a dog helped Paulsen during a bear attack (袭击), and another time a horse led him across a desert (沙漠). Surprisingly, animals can do many things. You may laugh sometimes. But these touching experiences may also make you cry.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School (2015)
Jeff Kinney, US
You may have heard of this book series(系列). And this is the 10th book from it. Greg Heffley is a middle school student. He has everyday problems. Now things get even more interesting when his town decides to stop using all electronics (电子产品)! Greg faces some new problems without a mobile phone and computer. This book shows there are always a few bumps (崎岖) in the road, but you can laugh about it along the way too.

Teenage life — better now, or in the past?
Does this situation sound familiar (熟悉)?
You are complaining (抱怨) to your parents about something. Maybe your computer isn't powerful enough to play the latest games. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Then you hear…
When I was your age, there weren't any computers or video games. And I didn't get a bike until I was sixteen. And it was second-hand. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}
So, is it really true that life is better for teenagers now? It is certainly true that many teenagers have got more things nowadays. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} So parents have got more money to spend on each child. And many things are cheaper than they were when our parents were children.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Forty years ago, no one could imagine a world with tiny computers and amazing smart phones. And now these things are necessary — we can't imagine living without them!
However, technology often means we spend more time at home. And often it is just us with our computer or television. Teenagers don't do enough exercise. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} And, although young people still get on well with their friends, some people think teenagers today don't have so many social activities as they did in the past.
What do you think? How is teenage life better these days?
A. And it was too big for me. B. A typical family is smaller now. C. Or your friends' bikes are better than yours! D. So they aren't as healthy as they were in the past. E. Technology is probably the greatest change in our life. |
Some people around you look so cool and happy, but you often feel lonely. Or the friends you have do not really understand you that make you feel lonely, too. So what can be done when you have this feeling?
Understand people's differences
Not everyone has to do things the same way or behave the same way. Find people who have the same feeling. That is always a good basic for the friendship. You can take part in activities outside school like sports, art classes and dancing classes. There you can have more chances to find people who have the same interest as you.
Develop your friendship
Friendships do not just happen, and they need work. Phone your friends once in a while. Being there when they need you means that they will do the same for you.
Accept others' invitations
Even if someone invites you to a neighborhood street party, you never know who else will be there. Laughing and playing together could start a new friendship.
Start a club
Make your circle of friends big by starting a club. Going camping together or regularly (有规律地) going to the movies doesn't take much time.

I'm forty now. I left school twenty-two years ago. Here's my list of five things I hope to share with you teenagers at school.
{#blank#}1{#/blank#}
I always wanted to be the best, and one way of feeling good about myself was to see how much better I was than others. There was only one problem with this. When I saw they were better than me, I felt terrible. Now I compare me with myself. I ask myself if I do things as well as I could.
{#blank#}2{#/blank#}
How much time do you spend worrying about the future? I used to worry a lot. Now I know most things you fear will usually never happen. They're just monsters in your own mind. Even if they happen, they will often not be as bad as you expected. In six months, you probably won't remember most of the things you worry about now.
{#blank#}3{#/blank#}
When I was young, I often failed to start things I expected to do because I thought they'd taken too long to finish. I always wanted to write a book, for example. But when I thought it might take me more than a year, I lost my enthusiasm(热情). It seemed such a long time. Now I know a year is nothing, if I'd started that book when I was 16, I might have written 10 more by now. I'm upset with myself for not even trying.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#}
As a young child you try many new things. If you fail, you try again and again until you learn. But at school you are usually encouraged to do things right. Then you stop trying new things in case you get them wrong. You are losing chances to challenge yourselves. I always remind myself: I had fallen off the bike many times before I learned to ride it.
{#blank#}5{#/blank#}
I hated losing when I was younger. Of course, it's nice to win sometimes and to be the best at something. But we can't all be winners all the time. Learning to lose is one of life's most important lessons. If you try your hardest, then you should never be angry with yourself.
