You may be in the United States only a short time before you are invited to dinner in an American home. Your hosts may telephone you or ask you {#blank#}1{#/blank#} person, or they may send you a written {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (invite) in the mail. If you get one, you should telephone your hosts to accept.

    A dinner in an American home is most likely to be a meal {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (serve) to guests sitting at a table. If the guests {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(seat) at the table, the hosts may serve the food, or it may be passed so {#blank#}5{#/blank#} each person may help himself.

    There are some other customs you should know. You should arrive on time. When you get there, your hosts may offer you something to drink, and some light food before dinner. The meal is {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(usual ) served about half {#blank#}7{#/blank#} hour after all the guests arrive.

    Most Americans do not have maids {#blank#}8{#/blank#} other help in the house. Often the husband and wife and their children share the responsibilities of {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(prepare) the meal and cleaning up afterward. After dinner, the guests often stay with the host for another two or three hours. Then all of them enjoy {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(them).

    Positive thinking does not mean you have to find every idea absolutely wonderful.

There is {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (something) wrong with being positive about an idea at first and then {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (reject) it later, when you see that it won't work.

    It is easy to be negative and critical and too much talent is wasted in negative thinking. It is time we {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (show) less respect for this kind of destructive thinking and focused {#blank#}10{#/blank#} positive thinking more. So remember to think positively.

Just accept them for who they are and give them {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(encourage) to live as rich and full a life as you do.

    There are four ways {#blank#}1{#/blank#}which British and American English differ from each other. The first and most obvious way is in the vocabulary.     Many of the earth's plants and animals have already{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(die) out, and a hundred species become {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(endanger) every day. If nothing is done, we may find ourselves{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (lonely) on the earth.

    Wild animals live in the{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (forest) which are being destroyed by people. As{#blank#}5{#/blank#} result, the animals are {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(lose) their habitats. Without the trees, the animals are short of food. And many animals are dying out because of pollution.

    I suggest that measures should be taken {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(protect) wildlife. The government should keep people {#blank#}8{#/blank#}destroying forests and shut down the factories {#blank#}9{#/blank#} pollute rivers and air, I think more wildlife reserves should also be {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(build).
