17-year-old Brennan Agranoff, a colorblind boy, started his custom (定做的) sock business in middle school, with a little money he got from his parents. Up till now, he has sold over $1 million worth of socks online in the last four years.

Brennan thought of the idea for his custom sock company at just 13 years old. He was playing in a high-school basketball game in his hometown, and noticed that many kids of his age were wearing the same white Nike sport socks. The boy told himself if these white simple socks were so popular with kids, then some cool custom designs (设计) would surely be more popular.

But the boy didn't tell his parents about the business idea immediately. He spent six months researching things, like printing machines and technology and writing out a business plan. When he had everything planned out, he asked his parents for some money." They thought the idea was a little out there," Brennan recently told CNN Money, but he kept pushing, and finally got a $3, 000 from his parents to start his company. Then he began to work on his own designs. Though he was colorblind, it didn't stop him and he has created over 200 kinds of designs now.

Business was slow the first year, but then Brennan started pushing his own brand(商标)HoopSwagg socks on the Internet. Orders soon started coming in in large numbers, and HoopSwagg became a popular brand among custom sock lovers. Right now, people can find his designs on HoopSwagg website, Amazon and eBay.

Four years after starting his business, Brennan has achieved great success while balancing(平衡) school, housework and his social life. And he says he loved every minute of it.

 阅读下列材料,根据材料的内容,从每小题所给的 A 、B 、C 三个选项中选出能回答所提问题或完成所给句子的最佳选项。

A British woman used an ancient Chinese invention to help her son deal with a modern problem.

Dr. Rashmi Mantri grew up in India. She was taught how to use an abacus to solve math problems when she was a little girl. After noticing her son Dhruv had great difficulty with math,she started emploving the same ancient Chinese tool to help him after school.

In just six days,Dhruv started to show rapid progress with the abacus. He enjoyed learning on it because it was like a game. He started to learn fast and would go on to become an excellent student in math. Surprised by the progress,teachers asked Dhruv to perform with the abacus at a school meeting,where some parents even came to ask for advice on using it to help their kids.

Known as the Fifth Invention of Ancient China,the Chinese abacus helped people so lve all kinds of math problems in ancient China and is still used today. People find that using an abacus can also improve thinking and practical abilities. In 2013, the Chinese abacus was officially listed as an intangible cultural heritage of human beings(人类非物质文化遗产). "The abacus becomes a playing tool for younger children. It feels like a game. I think the success comes because children can touch and feel an abacus and picture it in their mind. "said Dr. Mantri.

It is true that people with better education* are usually able to get better paying jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don't. It seems that the purpose* of education is to make people get jobs. But not all the people agree with this idea.

Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life to get education in order to make more money in the future. This was probably one of the earliest purposes of education. In fact, if education is just a way to make a living, people don't need to spend so much time in school. They can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. And people don't have to learn maths and languages so carefully. So it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.

So what is education for? Education is well-rounded and it should improve a man in many ways. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative* thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of human. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and most of all, take an interest in the world.

I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the only reason.

Wilbur is a fat and strong pig. He and other animals live on Mr Zuckerman's farm. He has a good friend called Charlotte. Charlotte is a spider (蜘蛛) and she is very good at spinning webs (织网). Days ago, the old sheep told Wilbur that Mr Zuckerman would kill him for Christmas dinner. Wilbur was afraid, but Charlotte said she would help him.

Charlotte spent days and nights writing nice words about the pig Wilbur on her webs. They were excellent, humble (谦虚的), some pig and so on.

"Wilbur is such a great pig. We will not kill him," Mr Zuckerman told Mrs Zuckerman.

Wilbur isn't afraid any more. He comes to tell Charlotte the good news. "Do you feel happy for me, Charlotte?" Charlotte answers, "Sure, my friend." "Thank you so much, Charlotte. You make me a great pig, but you look so tired. What's the matter?" Wilbu r asks.

Charlotte thinks for a minute and says, "Wilbur, I'm too tired. I'm afraid I'm going to die. I'm leaving you …" Wilbur begins crying.

"Don't be sad, Wilbur! I'm just a spider. I'm nobody. But by helping you, my life is valuable (有价值的). Thank you!" Wilbur says in a sad voice. "What can I do, Charlotte? I would like to give you my life. I really would."

Charlotte smiles and says, "I believe in you. Look at the egg sac (卵囊). There are 540 eggs in it. That means I can have 540 children. You can look after them well, right?"

Wilbur says yes and cries again …
