短文填空

I remember the occasion when mother sent me to the main road, about twenty yards away from our house, to invite a passing group of seasonal work-seekers for a meal. She(instruct) me to take a basket along and collect dry cow dung(牛粪) for making a fire. I was then to prepare the meal for the group of work-seekers.

thought of making an open fire outside at midday, and(cook)in a large three-legged pot in that intense heat, was sufficient to upset even an angel. I did not manage to hide my feelings from my mother and, after serving the group, she called me to the veranda(走廊) she usually sat to attend to her sewing and knitting.

straight into my eyes, she asked “Why did you get angry I requested you to prepare a meal for those poor people?” my attempt to deny her blame, using the heat of the fire and the sun as an excuse for my rude behavior, mother, she gave me a firm look,(say), “You cannot detect what trouble may lie ahead of you.”

I (sudden) realized that if I had refused to offer this group of people a meal, would be impossible that in my travels some time in the future,I would get these individuals' help.

Thanks to their curiosity, people now know far more about the world and have useful technology {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(help)them.

Even if you don't plan to be an inventor of researcher, curiosity can still help you in the classroom. If you develop the joy of learning, classes will become more fun. And you'll excel because you will be fully engaged in the process of learning. Even if you're no longer a student, curiosity will make you better {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(inform)and thus a more capable worker.

What do you do if you're not already curious? Fortunately, curiosity is a skill that can be improved. If you act like you're curious, you'll quickly start to actually feel curious. Often, the more you learn about a topic the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(interesting)it becomes.

As you learn about a topic, gather information from as many sources as possible. Read a variety of books, watch or listen to lectures and ask questions.     In South Korea smartphone cases come with rings fixed on the back {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (prevent) clumsy owners from dropping them. This makes people look like they are married to their phones. In lots of Seoul's coffee {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (shop), couples on dates spend much more time looking at their screens {#blank#}3{#/blank#} at each other.     Walk around the streets of Seoul, and there is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} real risk of bumping into people {#blank#}6{#/blank#} eyes are glued to their smartphone screens.     The government initially tried to fight the "smombie" (手机僵尸) phenomenon by distributing hundreds of stickers (贴纸) around cities, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (beg) people to "be safe" and look up. This seems to have had little effect even though, in Seoul at least, it recently replaced the stickers with stronger plastic boards.

Instead {#blank#}9{#/blank#} appealing to people's good sense, the authorities have therefore turned to trying to save them from being run over. Early last year, they {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (begin) to test floor-level traffic lights in smombie hotspots in central Seoul. Since then, the experiment has been extended around and beyond the capital. For the moment, the government is keeping old-fashioned eye-level pedestrian lights as well. But in future, the way to look at a South Korea crossroads may be down.
