Once upon a time, there was a rich man and a poor tailor(裁缝). They lived in {#blank#}1{#/blank#}same house. The rich man lived upstairs and the poor{#blank#}2{#/blank#}lived downstairs. The tailor liked to sing when he made clothes. He sang one {#blank#}3{#/blank#} after another. But the rich man liked to sleep a lot, and he couldn't get to sleep because of the singing. He felt very {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

    One day, the rich man said, "Tailor, I will give you a bag full of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}every day if you stop singing. "Fine, "said the tailor. And so the tailor {#blank#}6{#/blank#}singing and became richer and richer. But the more money he got from the rich man, the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}he became, because he wanted very much to sing again.

    At last he brought all his money {#blank#}8{#/blank#}to the rich man. "Here, "he said, "take your money back. I won't be happy {#blank#}9{#/blank#} I can't sing. "He gave the money back to the rich man and went away singing. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}sang and sang and was happier than before.

Tom Avery is one of the only 41 people ever to have reached both the South and North Poles. He was born in December 1975 and brought up in England, Brazil and France. His passion(强烈爱好) for adventure began when he was just seven years old and first read about the expeditions(探险) of famous explorers.Perhaps this was the start of his plan to put together the ultimate(终极的) joumey —— to the very top of the world, the North Pole, following the route taken by Robert Peary in his 1909 adventure.

Both Peary and Avery set off from Cape Columbia in Canada. Peary had a larger team and in fact had four support groups. Every 160 kilometers, a group would leave plenty of food and then turn back. The team therefore got smaller the further north they travelled. While Avery didn't have as many on his team, they did have food dropped by plane for them at four locations.

Avery's team also had the obvious benefit of modern technology, but Avery doesn't believe this made a big difference. He credits (把……归功于) his team's success to the 16 Inuit dogs that pull the sledges(雪橇)."It wouldn't have been possible without them,"he said."Your speed depends on the dogs and how quickly you can get a sledge through the ice."His team were travelling at the end of winter and this meant that the ice was thinner and could easily break under a person's weight. This was an added danger.

Another difference between both men's journeys was that Peary was far more experienced than Avery and had already been on several trips to the Arctic.

Peary claimed(声称) to have reached the North Pole in 39 days, but some historians argue that this was not possible. Avery's team actually beat this time and became the fastest to get there on foot. Avery says,"We told everyone we could do it and that we wouldn't fail. But it certainly wasn't easy."

In my classroom last Thursday, I sat next to a girl who was coughing. I covered my mouth to protect myself from the cold. However, the moment (时刻) I got home, I knew those germs (细菌) had got to me. I had a headache. My mum took my temperature. Sure enough, I had a fever. I was asked to drink as much water as I could. My dad asked me to stay at home until I got better. I was feeling down because I had a science test the next day, and I didn't want to miss it.

The next day, my dad took me to the doctor's. The doctor said I had the flu. He advised me to get a lot of rest and take some medicine. While at home last Friday, I slept most of the day. When I woke up, I tried to study for my science test. However, I couldn't stay awake long enough to study. At that moment, resting was more important than studying.

After being home from school for four days, I finally felt better and returned to school. My teacher, Mrs. Jenkins, gave me the science test I had missed earlier. She sent me into another classroom to finish it. The science test was much too difficult for me, but at least I was feeling healthy enough to take it. Great!

Mother's Day is always a fun time at my house every year. This year is no exception. My brother and I want our mom to feel 1 by giving her a day off from family chores. 

In the morning，I woke up before everyone else to hang up a poster that 2 "Happy Mother's Day". My dad also got up3 and helped set up a rose bouquet(玫瑰花束) in a vase. When my mom woke up，she read cards we laid out next to her bed with a big smile. While she was watching the morning news with my dad，it was time to 4 my cooking skills. I made some delicious food with my brother's help. My mom and I love board games，so after a short 5 around the neighborhood，we played all of her favorites. In my family，playing a fun board game turns into a big6 and can become very heated. One of us always becomes a sore loser after being beaten in the game. The afternoon games made all of us tired. A delicious takeout dinner from my mom's favorite restaurant 7 us. The festivities(庆祝活动)8 with ice­cream and more quality family time，while we were watching one of my mom's favorite movies from her teenage years. 

It was such a 9 day，and it was great to be able to show my mom how much we appreciate her and thank her for10 she does for our family. Mother's Day should be every day. 

Judie's class was studying Chinese culture. One day, her teacher went into the classroom 1 some kites. He told them that kites 2 in China more than 2, 000 years ago. At the end of the class, he said, "The Chinese make kites that mean something important to them. I expect each of you 3 a kite that means something important to you. You will have a 4 understanding of kites than before. "

Judie decided to ask her dad for help as it was 5 first time to make a kite. 

"What do you think of when your see a kite?" her dad asked. 

Judie thought for a moment and 6 , "Butterflies. "

Judie's dad agreed that it would be a good idea to make a butterfly kite. They made a cross with some wood sticks, 7 then Judie painted a butterfly on a piece of white paper. Next they stuck the paper on the cross. Finally they tied a long tail to the bottom. 

The next morning, they took 8 kite to the park and tested it. "Wow!" she cried proudly. "9 high my butterfly flies!"

"Judie, can you tell me 10 butterflies?" asked her dad. 

Judie replied, "To me, butterflies mean beauty and freedom!"
