Have youheard of e-waste (电子垃圾), which can be produced every day? How do you deal with yourcomputers, MP4 players or mobile phones when they're broken or you want a newone?

Mostpeople just throw them away. With the development of electronic industry (电子产业), e-waste pollution has becomea serious problem. According to the United Nations, in 2014, people around theworld produced 41.8 million tons (吨) of e—waste and only recycled 6.5 million tons. The US was the biggestwaster, producing 7.1 million tons. China came second, with 6 million tons.

It'simportant to pay attention to e-waste. It can be either valuable or harmful, depending on how we deal with it. E-waste is a valuable urban mine (城市矿藏). The value of the metals, like gold and silver in the waste around the world, is surprising. And themetals can be reused. But if people throw them away, the toxic chemicals (有毒化学物质) can get into the earth or air, affecting the environmentand people's health.

Apple, forexample, now recycles people's used products in China when they are buying newones. The company will test and repair the used ones and sell them at lowerprices. To help reduce e-waste, we can buy longer-lasting electronic products. If you have unwanted electronics, find a new home for them. You can also takecomputers and phones to companies to see if they offer recycling programs.

Astronauts would face dangers both getting to and surviving (生存) on Mars. Let's learn about surviving a trip to Mars.

What would it take to keep people safe and healthy on a trip to Mars? Scientists are already working on it, though the trip may be many years later.

Over the last 60 years, many spaceships have flown by orbited(沿轨道运行)and even landed on the Red Planet. However, machines cannot replace humans. That's why the United States, China and other countries want to send people to Mars. But surviving on this trip would not be easy.

A trip to Mars would be the farthest journey in human(人类) history. Mars is about 225 million kilometers away, so it would take astronauts at least 180 days to reach there. However, it only takes a few days to get to the Moon.

Space travel is dangerous. For one thing, staying in space for long periods makes the human body weak. Also, it puts pressure behind the eyes and causes eye problems. But gravity(重力) machines could help.

Then there's space radiation(辐射) to worry about. It is bad for astronauts when they have long journeys. Scientists are working out the issue. They have found that taking certain vitamins can help.

Astronauts will have to pack light to lift off from the earth. But they won't be able to get the things they need easily. Astronauts on the space station practice for this by growing lettuce and other food in space. Engineers are developing 3D printing techniques(技术)which can allow future Mars astronauts to build what they want.

China's 15-year-old Chen Ye won the gold medal in the men's bowl final of skateboarding(滑板男子碗池决赛) at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Sept. 25. 2023,

Chen started getting into this sport at the age of 8. "I remember one day I went to a sports store, and by chance I saw a skateboard. I decided to give it a try, "Chen told China Daily. Although it was really challenging to stay on the board at first, Chen found it very interesting, compared with other hobbies. "Every time I learned some difficult skills, I felt the joy of making breakthroughs(突破), "said Chen.

Gradually, Chen needed a better skate bowl for training. To meet the need, his father decided to make a skate bowl himself. "He gave up his job and worked on the bowl late into the night, "said Chen. "I'm really thankful for my father's support. "

As a junior high school student, Chen needed to find a balance between his schoolwork and skateboarding. His only "privilege(特权)" was being free from P. E. classes, during which he would do schoolwork because he needed to practice in his own skate bowl for hours after returning home. He trained in the morning, studied in the afternoon and sometimes had to have extra classes with the teachers' help. While getting ready for the competition this year, he trained for more hours at night to avoid interfering(干扰)with daytime classes.

Looking at seven years of learning skating, Chen said this experience made him stronger and more determined to do something he truly loves.
