Everyone likes to have friends who are  (rely). When what we say matches what we do, we earn trust and friendship. Therefore, the  (important) of keeping one's promise cannot be stressed too much.

There was a story of someone  (break) his promise to his friend. Two men  were travelling through a forest together promised to help each other whatever danger threatened them. They had not gone far when a bear rushed at them from some bushes. One man was a good climber, and quickly climbed a nearby tree, but the other, seeing that he had no chance alone against the bear, fell flat  his back and pretended to be dead.

The bear came up to him and sniffed at him. The bear thought the man was dead, so he went off into the wood again without hurting him. When he had gone, the other traveler came down from his tree, and smilingly asked his companion what the bear    (say) to him." My (good) friend," he said," I saw the bear put his mouth close to your ear." "He told me to tell you," replied the other  (calm)," that you were   great coward, and that in future I should not trust those who make fine promises, but will not stand by their friends in danger. "Don't trust fine promises  you are sure of the person who makes them.

On a bright, warm July afternoon, Mac Hollan, a primary school teacher, was cycling alone from his home to Alaska {#blank#}1{#/blank#} he heard quick and loud breathing behind him. “Man, that's a big dog!” he thought. But when he looked to the side, he saw immediately that it wasn't a doe at all, but a wolf, quickly catching up with him. In fact, he {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (meet) some cyclists just 5 minutes before and had just set {#blank#}3{#/blank#} from a gas station, but now no one could help him.

Mac found out his can of bear spray (喷雾) and fired at the wolf. It fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later, it was by his side again, making him more {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  (fright). He fired at the wolf {#blank#}5{#/blank#} second time, it fell back only {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (start) the chase (追赶) again quickly.

Mac waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to slow down. He saw a seep uphill climb before him. He knew that once he hit the hill, he {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  (catch) up and the wolf's {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (tooth) would be tearing into his flesh.

At this moment, Paul and Beeky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They spotted what they, too, thought was a dog {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (run) alongside a man on a bike. As they got {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (close), they realized that the dog was a wolf. They stopped their car in front of him. Mac jumped off his bike immediately and ran for the car quickly.

Everyone needs to know how to prevent a fire. It is also important to know what to do when it {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (break) out.

Every year, over 11, 000 people {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (kill) or injured in house fires. These fires could have been avoided. Smokers who are {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (care) cause about 200 deaths and over 6, 000 fires. More than of those {#blank#}4{#/blank#} die in fires are poisoned or harmed by smoke.

If fire happens, do not attempt to fight the fire unless it is small. Try putting out a small fire with water. If {#blank#}5{#/blank#} fire has spread or if the flames are more than 20 inches high, shut the door on it. Warn everyone else in the building and tell them to get out. You should leave and dial 911 for the fire department.

Before {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (go) into a room, check the door. If the handle or the door is hot, do not open it! Instead, put clothing or a wet towel at the bottom of it to keep smoke out. If the door is not hot, open it {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (slow). If there is a rush of smoke heat, close it again and shout to warn {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (other) inside.

Now open the window and shout "Fire!". See whether you can drop safely to the ground. Use this {#blank#}9{#/blank#} your escape course if you can. If you are not on ground level, break your fall by pushing a mat out first. Lower yourself at arm's {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (long) before dropping. Once outside, stay out outside and make sure the fire department is called.
