John Snow was a famous doctor in London — so expert that he attended Queen Victoria as her personal physician. But he became inspired when he thought about helping ordinary people {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (expose) to cholera,{#blank#}2{#/blank#}  was the deadly disease of its day. Neither its cause nor its cure was understood. So many thousands of terrified people died whenever there was {#blank#}3{#/blank#}outbreak. John Snow wanted to face the challenge and solve this problem. He knew that cholera would never {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(control) until its cause was found.

    He became interested in two theories that {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(possible) explained how cholera killed people. The first suggested that cholera multiplied in the air. A cloud of dangerous gas floated around until it found its victims. The second suggested that people absorbed this disease {#blank#}6{#/blank#} their bodies with their meals. From the stomach the disease quickly attacked the body and soon the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(affect) people died. He suspected the second theory was correct {#blank#}8{#/blank#} he needed evidence.

    So when another outbreak hit London in 1854, he was ready to begin his {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(enquire). As the disease spread quickly through poor neighborhoods, he began to gather information. In two particular streets, the cholera outbreak was so severe that more than 500 people died in ten days. He determined {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(find) out why.

New area to ease pressure

    On April 1,2017.China announced that it would build the Xiongan New Area in Hebei province. This will he {#blank#}1{#/blank#}the same importance as the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the Pudong New Area,according to the State Council.

    The area, about 100 kilometers southwest of downtown Beijing,will cover three counties{#blank#}2{#/blank#}sit at the center of the triangular area formed by Beijing,Tianjin,and Shijiazhuang.

    The Xiongan New Area has great potential for growth,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (report) People's Daily. It has a broad space{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(develop) and will expand to cover 2,000 square kilometers.The transportation of the area is convenient, with only an {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(hour) drive to Beijing and Tianjin.

    The new area also has{#blank#}6{#/blank#}sound natural environment. It is home to Baiyangdian, one of the{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(large) freshwater wetlands in North China.{#blank#}8{#/blank#}more than 140 lakes, the wetland is known as the "pearl" of the North China Plain.

    Once{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(build),the area will reduce the heavy burdens on Beijing.For example,many companies,universities and scientific research centers will move from Beijing to the area.

    International experts and media also think highly of this new area, saying that it{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(set) an example to developing countries, noted Xinhua.

    As people often say, ＂No one knows the value of health{#blank#}1{#/blank#}he loses it.＂ In other words (换句话说), nothing is more important {#blank#}2{#/blank#}health. Good health is beneficial{#blank#}3{#/blank#}your work and study. But how to keep healthy? Here I want to give you some advice.

    First, you should go to bed early and get up early. Second, keep a healthy and {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(balance) diet — eat more vegetables and fruits and other food full of energy and fibre; eat sugar and rich food as little as possible. Don't eat food {#blank#}5{#/blank#}has gone bad. Third, get rid of the bad habits such as {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(smoke), drinking or staying{#blank#}7{#/blank#} too late. Physical exercise can make your body strong, {#blank#}8{#/blank#}we should exercise every day. In {#blank#}9{#/blank#}word, health is more valuable than anything else. We should do everything we can to keep us {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(health).

    In 1940, four teenage boys and their dog were walking through woodland close to Lascaux, when their dog suddenly disappeared. The boys searched all around. They came to a cave and looked into the cave{#blank#}1{#/blank#} could see nothing.

    A few days later, the boys returned to the cave. They could hardly believe {#blank#}2{#/blank#}eyes. In the weak lamplight, the boys saw red horses and cows, and black bulls and deer charging across the walls of the cave, which looked so {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(frighten) that the boys jumped back in fear. Little did the boys know that they had made one of the most important{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(discover) of that century.

    The Famous Lascaux Caves consist of a large hole and{#blank#}5{#/blank#} series of connecting caves, with a natural water system. The paintings there were an especially important find because they are so numerous and so well preserved. After a few years, the caves were opened{#blank#}6{#/blank#} a tourist attraction, and 1,200 people per day came to the site{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(admire) the paintings{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (fortunate), many visitors resulted in changes in the cave's atmosphere, and green algae (水藻) began to grow around the walls. Since then, the caves {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(close) to the public in an effort to conserve the fragile paintings in this precious underground site.

    Today, the caves have computer-controlled air-conditioning and are inspected daily. Scientists hope that these precautions will prevent any{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(far) damage to the paintings.

    In the closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018  China put on {#blank#}1{#/blank#} eight-minute performance "See You in Beijing in 2022", {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (direct) by Zhang Yimou. The show centered on the talents of a team of 24 roller-skating {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (perform) from Beijing Sport University. Two of {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (they) dressed up as "Panda Captains" led the performance. Towards the end of the performance, the Olympic rings {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (appear) on the stage, as well as images of a global village, children's smiling faces, olive branches and plum blossoms(梅花), which represented China's promise {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (promote) global peace and build a better future for mankind. Finally, the skaters travelled a path to draw the "Winter Dream" sign of the Olympic Winter dreams Beijing 2022. The performance {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (successful) sent China's goodwill and invitations to the world for Beijing 2022.
