It was a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  day during the summer holiday. My mother and I got on the bus to my grandma's village. It was {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  dry that I was really thirsty. I began to think of the sweet watermelons and other {#blank#}3{#/blank#}  in Grandma's house. I could hardly wait to arrive there.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#}  took us two hours to get there . Grandma brought out a big watermelon and cut it. It was nice to eat the watermelon {#blank#}5{#/blank#}  such a hot day.

    The second man complained every other mile, his back pain got more and more {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. On the 5^th mile, he couldn't stand it any more and fell down on the grass. “My back is hurting me so badly. I can't go any{#blank#}2{#/blank#} because of the pain and it is all because we had to carry that silly woman across the river!” Out of{#blank#}3{#/blank#}, he asked “Why aren't you complaining about it? Doesn't your back hurt?”

    “Of course not.” The first man replied. “You have been carrying the woman since we left the river bank. But I set her down five miles ago.”

    We are often like that second man who keeps on complaining and can't get over the pain of {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Years later, we will still be carrying the burden, worn out and can't go any further.

    During the summer holidays, I worked as a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}at a vet's(兽医诊所), so I saw lots of dogs. Minnie was the funniest-looking dog I'd ever seen. She had thin snow-white hair on her fat body. She had big round eyes and always seemed surprised, but she was blind.

    She was brought to the vet's because her owner didn't want her any more. I thought Minnie was a sweet dog, though. "No one can know her by the ways she looks, "I thought. So we took care of her. Finally, I put an{#blank#}2{#/blank#}in the newspaper; Funny looking dog, who is quiet and has blind but beautiful eyes, needs a loving family. "Then a young man called. He said on the phone that his grandfather's sixteen-year-old dog had just died. I gave Minnie a good bath and made her hair feel soft. Then we waited for them to arrive.

    At last, an old car{#blank#}3{#/blank#}in front of the vet's. Two kids ran to the door. They took her happily into their arms. Then they ran to their grandfather, who was waiting in the car. I hurried behind them to see what he would say about Minnie. Inside the car, the grandfather held Minnie in his{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Minnie licked his face. It was love at the first lick.

    "She is wonderful!" the old man smiled. I was thankful that Minnie had found a good home. Then I saw that the grandfather's eyes were a milky white colour, he was blind, too.
