As the saying goes, rose given, fragrance in hand. I am always in the 1 of giving money to every beggar or homeless person I pass by. My friends say it is not good to 2. We may come across beggars or homeless people begging every day and all beggars have their ability to survive. It 3 them that I never listen.

    On a 4 day, my friend and I were walking to the 5 when I passed a beggar lady. I had seen her several times before and had always given her a few 6. That day, I gave her 2 Euros. I was waiting for the bus and reading a book when I7 to see that lady standing in front of me. She 8 me a piece of paper covered in a plastic bag to prevent it from getting 9. She stood there, looking at me 10. Putting away my book, I took the paper, which 11 she and her family had to 12 their country because of floods, and she was 13 to support them. She had got a bit of money, but she needed 5 14 Euros to get home. I 15 in my pockets and found 20 cents. My friend 16 a 5 Euro note. I asked her to give it to the lady, and said that I would 17 the next day. When she got the money, the lady hugged us and said thanks again and again, and went on her way. Later on the bus, I wondered where her home was and 18 she had gotten to this country. In her story, I felt that my friend and I would always remain part of it as the 19, who helped her get home on a rainy day. But for me, helping a stranger did bring me happiness, giving me a pleasant 20.

When I was young, my mom only had one eye. I hated her. She was such an 1.She ran a small shop at a flea(跳蚤) market and 2 old clothes and some other things to sell for the money we needed. Once during elementary school, it was field day, and my mom came. I was so embarrassed and 3 how could she do this to me？I threw her a 4 look and ran out. The next day at school, my schoolmates asked me, "Your mom only has one eye?!" and 5 me.

I was so angry with my mom and wished that she would just 6 from this world. So I said to my mom, "Why don't you have the other eye?! If you're only going to make me a laughingstock(笑柄)!" My mom did not respond, I guess I felt a little bad, but at the same time, I felt so 7 to have had said what I wanted to say. Maybe it was 8 my mom hadn't punished me, I didn't think that I had hurt her feelings very badly.

    For the words I had said to her earlier, there was something pinching at me in the corner of my heart. Even so, I hated my one-eyed mom and our 9 poverty. I told myself that I would become 10 in the near future, 11 I studied very hard. Later I got accepted by the Seoul University, I left my mother and came to Seoul to study. Then I got 12 there.

    I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. Now I am living 13 as a successful man. I enjoy the 14 in Seoul because it's a place that doesn't 15 me of my mom and my past. This kind of happiness was getting bigger and bigger, 16 one day someone knocked at my door. It was my mom! And still with her one eye! It felt 17 the whole sky was falling apart on me. I screamed at her, "Who are you? I don't know you! How dare you come to my house and scare my daughter!" To this, my mom quietly answered, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I may have gotten the

    One day, I went back to participate in a reunion. After the reunion, I went down to the old shack(窝棚), which I used to call a house, just out of 20. Unexpectedly, there I found my mom fallen on the cold ground. Then a piece of paper in her hand came into my eyes. It was a letter to me.

    My son,

    I think my life has been long enough now, and I won't visit Seoul anymore. I miss you so much. I'm so sorry that I only have one eye, and I was an embarrassment for you.

    You see, when you were very little, you got into an accident and lost your eye. As a mom, I couldn't stand watching you having to grow up with only one eye. So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son to see a whole new world for me with that eye. I was never upset at you for anything you did. During the couple of times that you were angry with me, I thought to myself, it's because he loves me.

    My son…oh, my son…

    Don't cry for me because of my death. I love you so much.

    Every time I passed boys who were playing basketball, I stopped to silently watch them. I really 1them. But as a girl, I once thought that I could never play basketball.

    I like playing basketball though I'm not good at it. I've had a basketball2 I was a child. At first, I could play freely because no one3when I was just a kid. But as I grew up, it seemed harder and harder for me to enjoy basketball.

    At school, it was always the boys who played basketball during PE classes. The girls were 4allowed to play volleyball or badminton.

    My parents did not 5 me play basketball at home. "Basketball is not fit for girls," they said. 6 when I went to play basketball with my friends, boys 7 at me on the court as if I were an alien.

    I was feeling8  and had lost hope of playing basketball. 9 , something changed the first day of high school. I made some friends who also enjoyed playing basketball. They 10me to get back on the court.

    One of them told me with a smile, "Go your own11, let others talk." This girl would always play basketball with me. Even the boy who sat next to me in class talked about12with me almost every day. I was inspired by them. Confidence and passion 13to my heart. I am ready to stand up and play. I will play as well as I can, 14 for me, even the sky is boundless (无垠的).

    Basketball has become an important part of my 15. I am interested in it. I watch matches and enjoy playing almost every day. Through basketball, not only do I feel happy and confident, but also16 a lot.

    I've heard the NBA star Tracy McGrady say, "Nothing is impossible." It is from an advertisement on TV. I have 17to realize that life is just like playing basketball. You should have an18. After that, just be confident and 19 going. Never give up and you'll make it sooner or later. I love the motto of the NBA. It can 20 my strong feelings for basketball, "I love this game!"

    Growing up in Kenya was amazing because I learned so much, though the poverty and lack of resources were sometimes frustrating. I knew I didn't have much, but I was 1.

    There was only one thing I wasn't happy with: 2. I wanted to go to high school and university. I had the drive, the will and the grades, 3 I didn't have the resources. Even 4 things like food, water and shelter weren't readily available. Young people in poverty have little or no 5 to high schools and universities. Where I lived, it was challenging 6 someone helped. When I left primary school, I was in the same 7 as many other poor disadvantaged youth. 8, during that year, a charitable high school for girls, Starehe Girls Centre, was 9 and I received a scholarship. Today, I am 10 record as being the first student to be enrolled in this school.

    In 2006, my school 11 The Global Give Back Circle, a not-for-profit organization for 12 disadvantaged girls to complete their education and gain 13 skills. After graduating from high school, I was given access to a nine-month IT course. 14, its give-back attitude had taught us to not only care about ourselves but other people. With this in mind, 10 of us created a website called "Hey Sister, Get Clued-Up". Through this educational website, aimed at networking 10,000 African 15 worldwide, all Sisters commit to sending information to their villages. This can be to 16 financial freedom, advance information17 to health issues and provide knowledge about social networking behavior.

    "Hey Sister  Get Clued-Up" is only 18 to those girls who can access the Internet, which highlights the huge challenge in 19 the divide between the haves and have-nots. But our plan is that these girls will 20 what they learn to other girls through "the power of their voice".

    On March 25, 2010, Kate and David heard the words every parent dreads: Their newborn wasn't going to make it. Their twins- a girl and a boy- were born two minutes apart and 14 weeks premature, weighing just over two pounds each. Doctors had 1 to save the boy for 20 minutes but saw no 2. His heartbeat was nearly gone, and he'd stopped breathing. The baby had just moments to live.

    "I saw him gasp(喘息), but the doctor said it was no 3 ," Kate told the Daily Mail. "I know it sounds 4 , but if he was still gasping, that was a sign of 5 .     We first met Tom and Gee in the early days of our marriage. Jim and I worked full-time, and in the 1our garbage cans went out to the curb(路边), 2to wait the long, lonely 10 hours there until we returned to fetch them because we were busy. 3, we'd come home every garbage day to find them neatly4 in their spot next to our garage. We5who had done it for us, and then one day we6 him: an elderly man who lived across the street from us.

    We told Gee how17Tom had been to us, how we grieved(感到悲伤的) for his death and how18 we were to have known him. She wrote us back and told us she still talked to Tom every day. Sharing that 19our bond with her.

    Tom and Gee, who opened up their hearts to us, made us realize that home doesn't20at a property line. It extends to all the people in the neighbourhood.
