How did we help to save our earth this week? Let me tell you. First, my family tried to save{#blank#}1{#/blank#} . We never left the lights on when leaving the rooms. We turned off the TV when {#blank#}2{#/blank#} was watching it. Mum only used cold water in the washing machine. Second, we started {#blank#}3{#/blank#} this week. We tried to write on both sides of our paper, not just on one side. We also {#blank#}4{#/blank#} our rubbish into different bags. Mum kept the plastic shopping bags from the supermarket to use them {#blank#}5{#/blank#} rubbish bags. Third, my family started to save water. We stopped {#blank#}6{#/blank#} long baths and had short showers{#blank#}7{#/blank#}We washed the toilet with used water. Mum and dad used less water to do the washing. My sister and I didn't leave the tap running when we{#blank#}8{#/blank#} our teeth. At last, mum and dad began to save gas. Mum used to drive us to school, but now my sister and I started riding our bikes to school. It is{#blank#}9{#/blank#} work but good exercise. This week dad and a few of the people in his company also started to go to work in one car and share the costs.
These are great ways {#blank#}10{#/blank#} protect our environment.

The moon was behind a cloud. And there weren't many stars in the sky. It was a dark night. I saw a glow (光) in my neighbor's kitchen. I thought he was having a night meal. So I went back to my bed.

Soon there was a smell of burning in the air and I thought there was probably something wrong. I jumped out of bed quickly and went out to make sure. I saw fire coming out of my neighbor's kitchen. Then I shouted, "Fire! Fire!" But no one in the neighborhood heard my shouts for help.

I ran into my house, called the firemen and went back to my neighbor's house. I knocked on the door hard and called out my neighbor's name, but there was no answer. Finally I got into the house and saved a cat and a dog.

I tried to pour water through the kitchen window but it didn't work. It was a big fire. Luckily, the firemen arrived over ten minutes later and stopped the fire.

When my neighbor came back, he was sad for his kitchen but he thanked me for calling the firemen and saving his pets. He wanted to give me some money but I did not accept it.

Weeks later, my neighbor had a new kitchen. He invited me to see his new kitchen and we enjoyed a big meal there. It made me very happy. After that, he became my best friend.

Have you ever heard of the Silk Road? Do you know what an important role it plays in the whole world? Did you visit any famous places along the road? The Silk Road went through Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. It was 6,500 km from Xi'an to Rome.

My dad is very interested in the Silk Road and he has told me many things about it. Last summer, my family got away for a holiday and went to some places on the road.

We started at Lanzhou and went on to Wuwei. Wuwei was a very important city on the Silk Road. It connected(连接) three main cities in the area. In ancient times, it was also a capital. It's now a modern city, but you can still get a feeling of history when you visit it.

The next stop was Jiayuguan. It was also an important place on the Silk Road. It was a busy city with a lot of people coming and going. Even today, it's a city that many business people travel through. An important part of the Great Wall was also built here.

After that, we went on to Yumenguan. I first found out about Yumenguan in the famous poem written by Wang Zhihuan. It was in the Gobi Desert and was the only connect ion between Central Asia and China . I wonder how people ever made it through the hot desert so long ago.

This trip wasn't just a scenic(观光的) journey. It helped me understand the history of the area and see how people from different places influenced (影响) each other in many ways.
