How did we help to save our earth this week? Let me tell you. First, my family tried to save{#blank#}1{#/blank#} . We never left the lights on when leaving the rooms. We turned off the TV when {#blank#}2{#/blank#} was watching it. Mum only used cold water in the washing machine. Second, we started {#blank#}3{#/blank#} this week. We tried to write on both sides of our paper, not just on one side. We also {#blank#}4{#/blank#} our rubbish into different bags. Mum kept the plastic shopping bags from the supermarket to use them {#blank#}5{#/blank#} rubbish bags. Third, my family started to save water. We stopped {#blank#}6{#/blank#} long baths and had short showers{#blank#}7{#/blank#}We washed the toilet with used water. Mum and dad used less water to do the washing. My sister and I didn't leave the tap running when we{#blank#}8{#/blank#} our teeth. At last, mum and dad began to save gas. Mum used to drive us to school, but now my sister and I started riding our bikes to school. It is{#blank#}9{#/blank#} work but good exercise. This week dad and a few of the people in his company also started to go to work in one car and share the costs.
These are great ways {#blank#}10{#/blank#} protect our environment.

    Last Sunday my brother and I went fishing. We got up very early that day. When we {#blank#}1{#/blank#}home, the moon could still be seen in the sky. The morning air was cool and I felt wind on my face. This made us very comfortable. We laughed and talked {#blank#}2{#/blank#}the way while we were riding our {#blank#}3{#/blank#}.By about six we were already sitting by the river. Fishing is not easy. If you want to be{#blank#}4{#/blank#} you must be very careful. That day we caught a lot of fish and enjoyed ourselves very much. It was late when we got home. We felt a little tired {#blank#}5{#/blank#}happy.

    Fishing is a very good sport. I like it very much.

Many people liked her recipes and she became popular.

    Soon after that, Lily wrote a book on {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (cook) and got much money from it. Finally, she had a good sleep for the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (one) night during the two years. Now Lily lives happily, but she'll never forget the days when she worked hard for a good life.

    Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success {#blank#}1{#/blank#} do not bring lasting happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said, "Happiness depends upon ourselves. " {#blank#}2{#/blank#} , we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.

The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} , for example, getting into college or getting a good job, that we fail to enjoy the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} . You should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favourite music, or spending time with close friends.

    People normally think of dogs as man's best friend, but to Brian Wilson, his two pet parrots are his best friends.

    It all began in 1995, when Brian was still a firefighter. A car accident caused serious damage to his brain. After several months of treatment, Brian's doctors said that he would never talk again and that he would have to spend the rest of his life in a nursing home.

    However, according to Brian, his two pet parrots didn't give up easily. They kept talking to him day and night, until one day, he said one word, then another, and all of a sudden was talking like a normal person again!

    Brian was so thankful that he decided to set up a home for birds which are not wanted by their owners. Now, his house is home to about 80 birds, including a great variety of birds like several macaws, cockatoos and African gray parrots. The birds fly around from room to room, some cackling (咯咯叫), others talking like humans. Though they all have big cages, Brian lets them fly freely inside the house.

    Over the years, Brian has developed a special relationship with birds. The birds that bite other humans, seem to like him and can get along with him well. He is now called a bird whisperer (鸟语者). Brian pays for most of the costs of looking after the birds with his own money, but has recently established a foundation (基金会) to accept donations. He and his birds also earn money by performing at birthday parties, weddings and other social events.

    For people who want to adopt (领养) Brian's birds, they have to volunteer at the foundation for three months before they can take the pet home.
