We can't stop an earthquake，but we can do things to make sure they don't destroy (毁坏) whole cities. First，it is not a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}idea to build houses along lines where {#blank#}2{#/blank#}of the earth's plates (板块) join together. Second，if you think there {#blank#}3{#/blank#}be an earthquake，it is better to build houses on rocks， not on {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Third， you must make the houses as {#blank#}5{#/blank#}as possible. Weak buildings will {#blank#}6{#/blank#}down in an earthquake，but strong ones may stay up.

    Scientists are {#blank#}7{#/blank#}that one day an even bigger earthquake will hit the part around San Francisco. They call it “The Big One”. However，people today are still building more {#blank#}8{#/blank#}The population in and around San Francisco is {#blank#}9{#/blank#}ten times more than it was in 1906. This means that {#blank#}10{#/blank#}there is another earthquake，a great many houses and buildings will be destroyed.

    There is a nature park in the southwest of our city. The government built it {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(protect) the rare animals. The nature {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(park) has been the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(symbolize) of our city.

    Yesterday my friends and I visited it. The workers there asked us not {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(feed) animals. Many animals are in {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(dangerous) because people kill them for their meat and fur. Another reason is that people are taking {#blank#}6{#/blank#}their land and making their water {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(undirty). The situation {#blank#}8{#/blank#}becoming very serious.

    I learnt much yesterday. I think people should {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(set) up more comfortable houses for the animals and help them live {#blank#}10{#/blank#} peace. We should do our best to protect them, because protecting them is protecting ourselves.

    Night after night, she came to help me sleep, even long after my childhood years.

    I don't remember {#blank#}1{#/blank#} it first started making me a little angry- my mom's hands pushing my hair that way. But it really made me {#blank#}2{#/blank#} ( comfortable), for they felt rough (粗糙的) against my young skin. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (final), one night, I shouted at her, "Don't do that anymore. Your hands are too rough!" She didn't say anything, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} she never did it again.
