Beijing, Nanjing and the other eight cities were found to be the ten civilized cities in China in 2011, according to the chinanews.com report. The 2014 National Civilized City (2014全国文明城市)is being elected.

The research evaluated (评估) the country's 34 provinces, autonomous regions (自治区) and municipalities (直辖市). According to these categories(范畴): economic management, social safety, social security subsidy, community affairs in urban and rural areas, transportation, education, culture and media, environmental protection, and medical care and public health, Civilized City will be picked out. Final ranking depends on material civilization, political civilization and spiritual civilization.

As long as we take the following actions, we will make a contribution to building a civilized city.

Protect our environment. It's our duty to plant trees every year, and then we can have a better life in the future. It's necessary for us to save water and energy every day. They are very important in our daily life. We can ride bikes instead of driving cars. We shouldn't throw rubbish in public places. We'd better use shopping bags when shopping, and we're glad to see that more and more people do it like this.

Help out! Helping those in trouble is necessary. We should respect the old and love the young. We could clean up city parks or streets at weekends. We could go to the old people's home to volunteer.

Obey the rules! We should follow the school and family rules in order to be civilized persons. Behave well and say something polite. Study hard at school and be responsible for the future!

Should children do housework? Different people have different ideas. Some parents will say that their children are too busy for housework. Other parents will ask their children to do housework,but the housework doesn't get done. That's a problem.

Doing housework is good for children. Doing housework helps them develop an awareness of the needs of others. One small study,done over a period of 25 years,found that young adults will succeed in their mid﹣20s depend on whether they took part in housework tasks at the age of 3 or 4. Those who early shouldered responsibilities developed a sense of responsibility in other areas of their lives.

But few kids are doing much around the house at all. In a survey of 1,000 American parents,75 percent said they believed doing housework made kids" more responsible". Yet only 36 percent of those said they required their children to do housework.

Sports and homework are not the housework﹣free reasons. The goal,after all,is to raise a kind of adults who can balance a caring role in their families and communities. Housework teaches that balance.

What should you do when getting children to do housework? Never accept their excuses. Don't worry if you must repeat yourself again and again. If you're spending more time getting the child to do housework than it would take to do it yourself,then you're doing it right. Can a payment help?I don't think so. If you're trying to teach kids to shoulder the responsibility of a home,paying them for housework is not the right choice.

Like most parents, mine spent much time advising me to take part in activities outside school. However, they never forced me, and I never found anything I was interested in. Then one day a friend at school told me about a local dance group and asked if I wanted to go with her. So, after school we went to talk to the dance teacher. She explained everything to us and we both decided to join.

My parents were really pleased to hear I'd finally chosen dancing. They think if you develop an interest in doing something yourself, it will be easier to succeed.

I' ve now been attending the dancing classes for 3 years and I really enjoy it. We are organized into age groups, and at 16 I'm now in the oldest class. There are classes of swing dance, ballet(芭蕾舞), street dance and folk dance. I practice street dance and I'm quite good at it. I also help out leading some of the younger children.

We also take part in events like local and even national dance shows, and relatives turn up to see their children perform. My parents are proud of me as they tell me all the time.

Now I' ll be too old to continue dancing with the group. However, I have already made plans to continue with them. The dance school has become very successful and is opening new classes. The director has asked if I'd like to be one of the group leaders and of course I said" yes"!
