”I am so happy!" said Gorilla. "The Great King Ape is coming for dinner!"

    Chimp was happy too, and he jumped up and down.

    "I will cook a great meal for the Great King Ape!" said Gorilla.

    "I will cook too!" said Chimp.

    But Gorilla did not want Chimp t~ cook. He was sloppy. He often made a mess (搞的一团糟). He would ruin (破坏) her great meal. So she asked chimp to buy some drinks.

    When, Chimp came home, he asked, May I cook now?

    "We still need bananas," said Gorilla. "Please pick the best bananas you can find. I want to cook sliced (切片的) bananas for dessert (甜点)."

    Soon Chimp brought back a bag of bananas and put the bag on the kitchen chair. Gorilla walked into the kitchen. She did not see the bag and sat down on the chair. "Oh, no! My bananas! They are ruined!" Gorilla started to cry.

    "Don' t cry, Gorilla," said Chimp. "I have an idea for a nice dessert."

    Chimp took out a big bowl and a spoon (勺子). He peeled (剥皮) some bananas, put them in the big bowl and mashed (捣碎) them with the spoon. Then he put some milk in. At last, Chimp put it into a small bowl.

    Soon the Great King Ape arrived. He ate up all the food. "This is the best meal I have had!" he said.

    Chimp brought out the dessert. The Great King Ape tried it. "Delicious!" he said. "You are both great!"

    "Thank you," said Gorilla. She smiled at Chimp. "Chimp is a wonderful cook," she thought.

    Albert was an ordinary worker in an oil company in America. His workmates gave a nickname(绰号) "Four dollars a bucket(桶) of oil" below his name whenever and wherever he wrote down his name.

    As time went by, people forgot his real name. Later, when Roller, the board chairman(董事长) of the oil company, heard of it. He was very surprised, so he invited Albert to come to his office. "Some people give you a nickname for 'Four dollars a bucket. Why aren't you angry?" asked Roller in surprise.

    "Oh! Mr. Roller! I like this nickname very much, because 'Four dollars a bucket is our company's advertisement. If someone calls me 'Four dollars a

    Bucket once, I think it's a free advertisement for our company. It's not necessary for me to get angry. Don't you think so, Mr. Roller?"

    "Oh! What a wonderful man!" Roller said excitedly, "Young man! Work hard, you must be successful in the future! I believe in you!"

    Five years later, Albert became the second board chairman.

    Later Albert said in one of his reports, "We should treat everything actively because maybe our future success will begin from a small thing!"

    The famous fat and lazy cat Garfield is coming to China. Garfield, the movie opens in cinemas around the country on Friday.

    In this American movie, Garfield acts with real actors. He makes trouble and dances like a star. He will make you laugh with his clever and funny words.

    Drawn by American cartoonist Jim Davis since 1978, Garfield has fans all over the world. He likes eating, sleeping and watching TV. He hates doing exercise! "I'm lazy and fat. But I'm proud of it," he says.

    Garfield always sits in front of the TV eating lasagna(烤宽面条), his favourite dish. Sometimes, he's rude to his owner Jon Arbuckle.

    One day, Jon brings Odie, a homeless dog, into his home. Odie is cute. He gets all Jon Arbuckle's love. This turns Garfield's world upside down. Garfield wants the dog out of the house, and his life.

    One night, he kicks Odie out of the house. But later Garfield finds that Odie has been kidnapped(绑架)by a TV star! The man wants to use the dog in his shows.

    Garfield feels sorry for Odie. He sees he has done something wrong. He wants to make up for(弥补)it. So Garfield gets off his favourite chair to try to save his friend.

    Andrew Engel was puzzled. He was sitting in class, but had no idea what the other students were talking about. He had done his homework, paid attention to lectures. and taken notes, but nothing was familiar." Everyone is se much cleverer than I am, " he thought. It was a strange feeling, as he was always a good student in high school.

    He felt even more puzzled a few days later. He got lost on his way to his favourite cinema. What's worse, he began having trouble finding the right words when speaking. He asked, "What's for dinner, Mum? "after he had just eaten. Poor Andrew, he was only 15！

    His parents were worried and took Andrew to see a doctor. A brain scan(扫描)made it clear: Andrew had a malignant brain tumor(恶性脑肿瘤). It was pressing on the part of the brain that makes new memory. He should be operated on as soon as possible. Andrew was scared！

    Doctors removed the tumor, but Andrew's memory was still poor. He was told he would probably never go back to school. Andrew was eager to enter a university, but it seemed that his dream wouldn't come true.

    Andrew began to audit(旁听)an English class at a nearby school. In class, he took notes carefully and read his notes several times a day, then typed them again and again. The Basket

    Two things changed my life; my mother and a white, pretty bike basket. My mother is a strict parent and I had to earn my pocket money by doing housework around the house.

    One day, my mother drove me to the bike shop to get a tire fixed, and there it was in the window; white, shiny, and decorated with beautiful flowers. It was so special and I knew I had to have the basket. "It's beautiful," my mother said when I pointed it out to her.

    "Mom, please, can I get it? I'll do more housework for as long as you say, but I need that basket. I really love it……"

    "You know," she said gently, "If you save up, you could buy this yourself." "By the time I make enough, it'll be gone!"

    "I'll buy the basket for you, but you have to work for it," she said.

    My mother bought the beautiful basket and put it safely in some secret place I couldn't find. Each week I eagerly counted my growing income. And then, weeks later, I jumped for joy. Oh, happy day! I made it! I finally had the exact amount we'd agreed upon.

    Days later, the unthinkable thing happened. A neighbor girl appeared with the exact same basket on her shiny, new bike. The eight-year-old me cried and ran fast back home to tell my mother about this terrible news.

    And then came the lesson I've taken with me through my life; "Honey, it doesn't matter that the baskets look the same. Your basket is extra-special," Mom said, gently drying my hot tears. "Your basket is special because you got the basket through your hard work."
