Isaac Newton was born in  Woolsthorpe , England, on December 25,1642. He was born early and he was very{#blank#}1{#/blank#} .No one believed he could continue to live. But he surprised {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  . He had one of the most powerful minds in history. And he lived{#blank#}3{#/blank#}he was 84.

 Newton's father died before he was born. His mother married again a few years later. She {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Newton with his grandmother.

 The boy was not a good student .Yet he was curious(好奇的) and liked to make things ,such as kites, clocks and simple machines . Newton also{#blank#}5{#/blank#} finding new ways to answer questions or solve problems .As a boy ,for example, he wanted to find a way to measure(测量) the {#blank#}6{#/blank#}  of the wind .On a windy day , he measured how far he could jump with the wind at his back .Then he measured{#blank#}7{#/blank#} he could jump with the wind in his face .From the difference between the two jumps, he made his own measure of the power of the wind.

 Strangely ,Newton became a much better student after a boy kicked him in the stomach.The boy was one of the best students in the school.Newton decided to get even (报复) by getting {#blank#}8{#/blank#} marks than the boy who kicked him .In a short time ,Newton became the top student at the school.

 Newton left school to help on the family farm.{#blank#}9{#/blank#} , the boy was not a good farmer.He spent his time solving math problems. Instead of taking care of the farm. He spent hours visiting a bookstore in town, {#blank#}10{#/blank#}   selling his vegetables in the market.An uncle believed that Newton would do better as a student than as a farmer.So he sponsored(资助) the young man into Cambridge University to study math.

    Amanda is a very kind girl.She is always {#blank#}1{#/blank#}to help people who are in trouble.Now Amanda is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} in the university of Texas.At the same time，she is volunteering to teach at Heart House in her{#blank#}3{#/blank#}time.Heart House is a local after－school program for children.It {#blank#}4{#/blank#}some extra education for those children who are not doing well in their studies.

    Amanda goes to Heart House to teach the children twice a week.She has also {#blank#}5{#/blank#}a website for Heart House.In this way，more people have more chances to learn about Heart House and {#blank#}6{#/blank#}the children there

    Because of Amanda's website，every week 125 volunteers {#blank#}7{#/blank#} about four hours helping the children at Heart House now.“Without Amanda's website，Heart House would be{#blank#}8{#/blank#} to have enough volunteers.Her support is much appreciated，” the program leader says.

    “I feel happy to teach those kids how to study.The{#blank#}9{#/blank#} thing is that I can also learn a lot from them.I won't give up volunteering after graduation.I hope to {#blank#}10{#/blank#}teaching kids who need help，” Amanda says.

    A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said, "I am blind, please {#blank#}1{#/blank#}"

    There were only a few coins in the hat. A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned {#blank#}3{#/blank#} around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} words.

    Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot {#blank#}5{#/blank#} people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. The boy recognized (识别) his footsteps and asked," Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"

    The man said, "I only wrote the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}. I said what you said but in {#blank#}8{#/blank#} different way. "

    What he had written was, "Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it."

    Of course {#blank#}9{#/blank#} signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply told people to help by putting some money in the hat. The second sign told people that they were able to enjoy the beauty of the day, but the boy could not enjoy it {#blank#}10{#/blank#} he was blind.
