Being on the road at 3:15 a. m. to drive 450 kms wasn't in my plans for the weekend. I had been looking forward to a couple of  1days to prepare myself for the following busy2. My son, Simon, and his good friends were heading for the 3. Due to the last-minute issue(问题) with transportation, I 4 my car to make sure that everyone could get to the 5 point so that they could get together and enjoy their week's 6 by snowboarding and skiing.

    The only thing that 7 to me on my journey was that no sooner had I 8 and said goodbye than I would make the trip 9 ， in total, a round trip of 900 kms in just 10 hours. Such a long drive in one day was frightening,10 as I was looking forward to relaxation Simon and I 11, on our way, about his break and a whole lot of his school subjects. It was great to have this time with him as we 12 spent five continuous hours together, other than when we played Saturday cricket (板球).

    On my return trip, I 13 a strange sense of loneliness in some heavy morning 14. Within an hour it15. I spent the next four hours listening to some CDs and enjoying the scenery. Surprisingly, after my long trip home I was 16 refreshed and energized even though I was physically exhausted. And I knew that I would have a(n)  17 sleep that evening.

My first job was just one I decided to try for a couple of years until I5what I want to do as a career.6I believed I would work for a few years, get married, stay home and 7a family, so I didn't think the job I took8that much. I couldn't have been more9  I mastered the skills of that beginning level position and I was given the opportunity to10through the company into different11. I accepted each new opportunity with the12, “Well, I'll try it; if I don't like it I can always go back to my 13position.” But I was with the same company for the past 28 years, and I've14every career change I've made. I've discovered I15a large number of different talents and skills that I never would have thought were within me had it not been for my being 16trying new opportunities. I've also discovered that if I 17what I'm doing and work hard at achieving my 18, I will succeed. That's why I'm so 19 to be a part of CareerFables.com.     I was walking around in a Big Bazar store doing a shopping, when I saw a cashier talking to a boy who didn't have enough money to buy what he wanted. The little boy was still holding the doll 1 his hand. At that time, I walked toward him and I asked him who he 2 to give this doll to. “It's the doll 3 my sister loved most. I wanted to 4 her for her Birthday.” His eyes were so sad while saying this.

    “My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could 5 the doll with her to give it to my sister.” My heart 6 stopped. Then he showed me a very nice 7 of him. He then told me “I want mommy to take my picture with her so my sister won't 8 me, I love my mommy 9 I wish she doesn't have to leave me.”

    Then I remembered two days before a local 15 reported an 16 in which a woman and a little girl were badly 17.The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a 18 state. Was this the family of the little boy?

    Two days 19 , I read in the newspaper that the woman had passed away.I couldn't stop myself from going to the 20 . Teary-eyed, I felt that my life had been changed forever.

Running for a Dream

    I will never forget that November day. It was hotter than normal. This was the 1my father and I had waited so long for, because we had been working towards this race for three years. Dozens of familiar faces from church and school flashed across my view. They had come2me. I saw worry and3on my father's face. Then the race began!

    For the first two and a half miles. I felt4.I had never before been so ready for something. The weeks leading up to the race were filled with controlled5and a strict diet. My friends hadn't seen me in weeks, but they understood the6required to make my dream a reality. As in all of my races, I didn't7out in the front, I loved the pleasure of passing people as my strength overtook their premature speed.

    Then without warning, my strength began to decrease. Neck and neck with one of my greatest competitors, I8see the finish line. I had begun the final dash into9when my knees became weak and my legs gave way. Nothing I could do would make them10weight.

    I watched as runners rushed by me.11I knew my dreams of victory were destroyed. I had to finish the race. However, my legs hurt badly. With all of the 12left in me, I got on my hands and knees and crawled （爬）,inch by inch, across the finish line. Voices, both13and familiar, cheered me on. They gave me the courage to keep14until the very end.

    The doctors were there in seconds, but my eyes searched the crowd for him. There was only one person I wanted to15to. I whispered, "I'm so sorry, Dad, I'm so sorry I 16you." He looked at me, saying," You could never disappoint me. Sometimes these things just17.All that matters is that you did your best."

    "But we worked so18.What about our dream？"He reached over for my hand and said, "Don't you know that you are my dream and it has come true？"

It wasn't long before my running shoes were back on, marking a19path for my journey, I learned that all of the miles, the tears, the sweat, and the pain my dad and I experienced together were not for a20.What I realized, though, was that to him ,I was the greatest prize he had ever won.

    A storm was coming, but Alex was too busy fixing her leg bandage to notice it. She said to herself, "Great. I 1 myself the week before Cross Country Running tryouts (锦标赛). I am so 2. Why did I think running through the forest would be a good idea in the first place?"

    After 3, Alex went to the kitchen and poured herself some lemonade. She opened the door to her 4 and sat down outside. "Every year, I work so hard and yet, I always 5," Alex said. This year, I was one spot away from Varsity(校队). The previous 6, I handed in my medical forms late…"
